6/16 White Sox at Pirates
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jun 16, 2015 -> 07:56 PM) All great moves at the time in my opinion. They just haven't performed to career numbers. Eventually, all the "great moves" in the world get managers and GM's in any professional sport fired...it's unavoidable when the win/loss record is so bad and fan apathy is so high. It would be ONE thing if the future looked brighter, if the "suffering" was worth it, but there's hardly a light at the end of the tunnel right now.

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jun 16, 2015 -> 07:54 PM) Another 0-5 road trip Way past time for jobs to be lost, back to back shutouts The Pirates' pitching staff is just rolling right now...we're at the point where we're closer to 10 games under .500 than the .500 mark and they're really in jeopardy of losing 80% of the fans for the remainder of the season. Tuning out wasn't so easy to do in 2007 and 2009, but it has become something of a habit over the last 5 years (with the lone exception of 2012).

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 16, 2015 -> 07:50 PM) Really needs to be changes prior to tomorrow's game. This lack of production is inexcusable. What a waste of resources by Hahn this past offseason. How many times have we said "really needs to be changes....before next week, before they come back to Chicago, before the next homestand, before they're too far out of it, etc." Maybe the reason they haven't fired Steverson is because they realize that absolutely nobody will be in the least bit pacified. It is curious how he's not under more heat, but it's not like he has a long track record with the team, either...like Walker did. Perhaps it's also because he was brought in from outside the organization, so there's the belief it's not just a nepotism hire.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jun 16, 2015 -> 07:46 PM) It'' start to heat back up once we trade some guys haha. If they DON'T trade Samardzija, the outcry will last for a week or so. What would be more fun (as a debate topic) would be a Quintana trade, but that's about as likely to happen as Ventura resigning or being fired, or Buddy Bell or KW doing the same. It would be cool if we could see if in one of those parallel universes (like in Interstellar) a front office team made up of the entire Black Hawks front office teamed with the top two lieutenants of Jeffrey Luhnow and see how quickly they could turn this mess around, compared to the current group.

2015 Films thread
It would be nice if they had a kick ass "dino trainer" like Emily Blunt (just an example) and the man was the conservative, profit-driven corporate hack instead... Of course, that would be like expecting to see, instead of Selena Gomez wearing a Lolita-esque outfit with a skirt slit all the way up her leg while posing with Sandler and Kevin James (in sweatpants, to boot)...Meryl Streep or Helen Mirren instead. Would even settle for Diane Lane. Ah, Hollywood.

Veteran Leadership
http://m.mlb.com/news/article/131045438/ri...it-in-san-diego Another one of his (Pat Murphy's) favorite lines is: "I'm like an offensive lineman. My job is to open holes for these guys so they can run through them to the big leagues. It's my job to help them be their best self." This is a guy who has experienced almost everything there is to experience in baseball. He will engage his players with doses of both humor and anger. The Padres will always know where they stand with him. And these are the most important things a manager can bring to the table in 2015. At a time when front offices can offer managers mountains of data on everything from lineups to defensive alignments to pitching matchups, one thing will never change: The manager's responsibility is to get a professional effort from his team every single day of the season. He must make players understand that everything he does is what he believes is the best thing for the team. Players must be convinced that if something is right for the team, it's also right for them.

At least there was a sense of IMMEDIACY with PHing LaRoche there. He was, after all, 5 for 7 lifetime against Morton before that at-bat. At any rate, the White Sox would be 71-126 on the road since the beginning of 2013, the victims of 3 road sweeps already. "Nothing to do with coaching. They just suck and it's hopeless."

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 16, 2015 -> 06:06 PM) He is hitting .289 in the 2 hole this year. LMAO 38 at-bats and a WHOPPING 668 OPS. Actually, he should be hitting clean-up. From 2012-2014 (a much more reliable sample size) 1st 796 OPS 2nd 658 OPS 3rd 743 OPS 4th 2.000 OPS 6th 687 OPS 7th 652 OPS 8th 804 OPS The irony is that he's never hit 9th that whole time, which is where he probably belongs but Flowers and Sanchez are even more abysmal. #funwithstatistics

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 16, 2015 -> 06:02 PM) Yet he has more than double the plate appearances in that spot than in any other spot in the order during his career and his numbers are better than if he bats 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, or 7th. #factssuckwhenyouwanttocomplaim That version of Alexei Ramirez NO LONGER EXISTS, any more than the "good" Melky Cabrera does. #factssuckbutwecantdenytheirimpactonreality But please educate us Dick Allen, who exactly should we be praising in this game for their performance?

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jun 16, 2015 -> 05:59 PM) Team has no interest in scoring in Pitt. Team has no interest in scoring, period. The best hitter we have against Morton and the Pirates (LaRoche) is sitting on the bench, and our two worst hitters are hitting 2nd and 4th. Cabrera's hovering around a .100 average against LHP.

QUOTE (Condor13 @ Jun 16, 2015 -> 05:55 PM) Emilio had 2 or 3 errors in 1 game there already this year. He is far worse then Micah at 2B Well, as it's going, he might have to play CF for Eaton after Ventura or one of his veteran teammates kill him. I don't know what would be worse, Shuck or Trayce Thompson. Well, at least Trayce would make things interesting and there would be multiple Klay Thompson sightings in the stands to boost attendance. Then they can deal JB to St. Louis where he can earn more money doing promo's for the Shuck's grocery store chain.

If Eaton gets thrown out there jacking around with McCutcheon and doesn't get pulled from the game...that's the 3rd time he's almost made an out in the first three innings of the game.

QUOTE (Chris Sale @ Jun 16, 2015 -> 05:46 PM) It would also mess with Johnson's development to put him back in the majors after a brief spell in AAA. They might as well try Bonifacio there for a month and see if he can build up any trade value...then they can return to that Johnson/Sanchez/Saladino/Leury cast over the final two months.

That will be an awkward moment. Pat Murphy (new Padres' manager) is Pedro Alvarez's father-in-law, dating back to the Arizona State connection. Will he intentionally walk him to appease his daughter? Wonder if that's ever happened before in MLB?

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jun 16, 2015 -> 05:42 PM) All started with Alexei because he was actually trying to pull the ball the whole at bat and hits a little nubber in front of home. Or you can say it all started with putting Alexei in the critical 2nd spot in the order where he can't bunt to advance runners or manage how to think a bit about the specific offensive situation and adjust his approach.

QUOTE (Chris Sale @ Jun 16, 2015 -> 05:37 PM) Well, we could definitely use Kodos the Executioner for this season, that's for sure. As a matter of fact, they could undoubtedly run that Star Trek episode again and it would be getting better ratings than this.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 16, 2015 -> 05:23 PM) Cleanup hitter on 6-16 has one homer Meanwhile, a South Korean "defense first" infielder is making Cabrera look like he belongs in American Legion play. RHB'ers hitting over .300 against Quintana on the season. That's not so good. Second Don Cooper visit to the mound in the first inning this series. That's also, not so good.

53-19 in the first inning now. 53 the most surrendered in the majors, 19 the lowest number of runs scored, unsurprisingly.

LaRoche vs. Charlie Morton, 5 for 7, 1 homer, 6 RBI's. Has a 982 career OPS against pitchers on the Pirates' active roster with 5 homers and 18 RBI's. 9 for 19, 2 doubles, 2 homers and 9 RBI's at PNC Park from 2012-2014. Ventura getting scolded big-time by Pirates' announcers for having Melky Cabrera with his 6/56 against lefties batting clean-up. I'll repeat it again just because it's so incredible....when we look back later on this game's result.

Balta "music jinx" is in on Eaton's baserunning unless Gordon jacks a homer. Overslid the bag...tried to reach around the base because he knew he was probably going to be out, couldn't get back. Veteran Leadership
QUOTE (harkness @ Jun 16, 2015 -> 05:03 PM) Lax attitude doesn't have to be about "yelling".... There are about 100 other verbal and non verbal signals involved. Except that it still happens nearly every week in baseball, most recently with Giles in Philly jawing with McClure (pitching coach) and Ryne Sandberg in the dugout. It's unfortunate that we think in the simplest terms, though. Easy going and well-liked player's coach or "R. Lee Ermey strict militaristic disciplinarian" who is always shouting and yelling and intimidating everyone. I guess that comes from the idea that as a leader, you often have to choose between being loved and feared. It's extremely difficult to fall into both categories.

Cardinals investigated for hacking the Astros
QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 16, 2015 -> 04:39 PM) oh man, this is going to open a can of worms and i wouldn't be surprise if there would be something in the new CBA. the mlb has a limited recourse. 2 mil and i really can't see anything else. again i am not a lawyer or anything. the things is, if it is not listed in the books, mlb exec can not add it and expect to punish then. there will be some jail time coming, this is a Class B felony and the federal law enforcement agency are involve, if they suspect someone, then the feds are going to apply pressure. btw, if convicted, up to 20 yrs in jail for those who were part of or had knowledge of the crime. if it is based on the Terrorist act, this is mandatory time, no prorole. when this starts, there is no stopping or turning back. you can probably expect life banned. then there will be a slew of civil actions on many fronts. people will be fighting to get some sort of plea bargin. it is going to get real messy. How could it be connected to Terrorism or the Patriot Act? I think that's a bit of a stretch, expecting front office execs to be sent to Gitmo. It might be scaring some of the higher ups though, that the particular individuals involved will argue that DeWitt, LaRussa/Matheny and Mozeliak all knew about this.
