  1. Texas second stadium didn't last long at all...but especially Philly Cincy Pittsburgh St.Louis, the cookie cutter round stadiums with AstroTurf. Astrodome and Kingdome. Braves' stadium after the Olympics.
  2. See, you know too much about the Cubs lol...and no more Abreu to criticize. Maybe criticized Dansby Swanson for missing 1B yesterday.
  3. The Padres don't have the type of money now to pay the amount Boston extended him for... And the White Sox still probably needed that pure SS in Carson with Colson M. sliding to 3B. SD doesn't believe de Vries will stick at SS as he grows out of the position over the next 2-3 years. And their #3 guy (traded in deal) wasn't that hyped last year. B.Montgomery and Teel > de Vries But those who believe de Vries will be a superstar despite leaving SS would go with him. That said, Campbell was off the table for Crochet and he's really struggled this season compared to expectations after making the massive prospect jump last year. Also SD at the time wouldn't trade de Vries AND Salas.
  4. They were going to have the $70 million they were previously making cut quite dramatically either way...
  5. Are Cubs' fans really that tied to Tucker after just one season? The surprise success of both PCA and the Brewers would make one think that investing in the starting rotation might be the better move.
  6. Not sure Tucker at his age is worth 8-10 years and $400+ million, and therein lies the dilemma The problem is they can't miss. Machado Harper and Wheeler deals all would have worked. Two of those guys will likely go into the HoF as Phillies and Padres minus career-altering injuries. Just not quite sure Tucker isn't just one level below that surefire HoF track. Ofc we all know the Sox aren't going to be active in chasintrack in FA, because all the surplus value in that contract is going to be crammed into his first 2-3 seasons, whereas the White Sox won't be truly competitive until 2028...unless let's say Tarik Skubal gets injured in the 2026 season. Counting on injuries is about as reliable as counting on JR spending going into the labor impasse.
  7. https://www.fangraphs.com/players/colson-montgomery/29712/stats?position=SS +3.2 offense +2.2 defense
  8. Looks a bit like a thinner Gavin Sheets. Bob Shaw?
  9. Law's clearly waiting for Colson to slump or the league to adjust, because he's certainly not coming out and admitting he was wrong...or it's going to be that he overestimated the impact of the back injury/health issues.
  10. Has Law said anything yet about the mid to late summer version? The other specific criticism had been about inside and high fastballs...having long levers and not being able to get around on them, but it seems watching him that the bigger problem (when he has been struggling to make contact) has been with offspeed stuff. What's interesting is that Montgomery has still been quite productive despite hitting just 16/71 or .225 since the Rocking debut series. 25 k's in 86 at bats (29.1%) and 91 pa's (27.5%), just 5 walks though.
  11. Keith Law still hates the White Sox Aaron C.: I don’t want you to name names because that’s all that anyone will focus on, but in all the years you’ve been doing this, has there ever been the son of an MLB player drafted in, say, the top 5 rounds who might otherwise not even be a top 10 round guy is not for his last name? Keith Law: Oh yes. Tony Gwynn Jr. comes to mind. Kenny Williams’ son might be the most egregious case. Guest: What are your thoughts on the recent moves of sending Colson Montgomery and Elijah Green to the complex to work on their swing mechanics? Should more teams be doing this? Seems like every org has guys who would benefit more from a month or so of supervised development instead of trying to stay afloat at an affiliate? Keith Law: Right move for Montgomery even if it hasn’t helped. https://meadowparty.com/blog/2025/06/05/klawchat-6-5-25/?amp=1 From just one month ago... https://www.statmuse.com/mlb/ask/mlb-home-runs-leaders-2025-rookies Montgomery tied for 10th mlb rookie hr's
  12. Seems Nightengale is on the warpath against every Central team but Detroit… “However, one move in particular regarding a lesser known player of the Twins’ rotation was the trade that really had others around the league puzzled: Minnesota’s trade of Louie Varland, the 27 year-old reliever who grew up in the St. Paul area and “absolutely loved being a Twin,” per Bob Nightengale of USA Today. Nightengale noted that “Varland was devastated, leaving Twins players seething and rivals GMs dumfounded as to why the Twins would actually trade a valuable reliever,” and that “his wife and a family (would come) to virtually every home game. This is the way you treat him?”
  13. 2007 is when it all fell apart with the team and Stone/Skip Caray on the plane…
  14. https://www.chicagomag.com/Chicago-Magazine/October-2007/Stone-in-Exile/
  15. Probably not 3B due to arm strength…but we’ve got Rojas!
  16. Soroka starting tonight for the Cubs against the Reds. Playoff implications for both teams. We will find out what he's actually made of at this point in his career.
  17. Padres decided that Leo de Vries wasn't going to be able to stick at SS and would have to eventually move to 3B 1B DH. That simple. Cronenworth C.J.Abrams Tatis Merrill Machado Bogaerts X.Edwards...their five year history at that spot. We shall just have to wait and see how his frame fills out. Just like detractors of Preller are waiting for Miller's elbow to blow up. Risk/reward. https://sports.yahoo.com/article/mlb-rumors-why-padres-athletics-155930462.html&sa=U&ved=2ahUKEwjYs_r-p_KOAxWNm2oFHReVE-QQFnoECAkQAg&usg=AOvVaw2S68HXO1T8Pv3RqRcWdcXq Ofc the other factor to consider was they traded him to an American League team...
  18. And Kopech was the most hyped of all…in many ways, at least in terms of being the centerpiece of the rebuild with Moncada.
  19. Comparing kids that start at age 18 vs. 22-23 in professional baseball is really apples and oranges. "Tibbs entered his junior season in 2024 as a top prospect for the 2024 Major League Baseball draft.[5]" The Dodgers can easily afford to invest in talent and only need to be right 20-30% of the time. The point is you have to have a constant influx of talent with high ceilings...and then be able to develop that talent. And with the Red Sox holding onto Duran, that left a severely crowded OF picture with Yoshida Raffaela Anthony and Abreu. It's understandable but will probably come back to haunt Boston/Breslow. Ofc the Dodgers now have dePaula Z.White and Tibbs...and will still probably replace Conforto in LF this upcoming offseason.
  20. The problem here is that the really top tier relievers cost so much in $$$ or trade capital because all the contenders need them to win in the post season and current supply (for the rest of MLB) is even less with Clase likely out of baseball. At least they should be able to finish ahead of the Twins, who still need to dump Ryan and Lopez and the Guardians will probably deal Kwan to LAD like they did offloading Naylor's higher salary this past offseason.
  21. Realistically, they were competitive in 2008 2010 2012. Ventura's second season they started to bottom out. Then they had that "false flag start" of 23-10 in 2016 that provided them enough hope to make the ill-fated James Shields trade with SD after he'd won a WS ring with the Royals.
  22. caulfield12 replied to Tomas's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Has a team consistently in the Bottom 5 in attendance and 100+ loss teams with a 35+ year old stadium ever jumped all the way to Top 5 or even 10 in attendance in the Reinsdorf Era without a new stadium??? The biggest increases are Colorado moving into Coors Field and the Blue Jays after opening Skydome…
