Don't break it ALL down. Go for 63!!!!!
If KW/Hahn couldn't convince him to spend on Machado and Harper in 2019...back when $300-350 million was top of the market, why would Getz operating for 2-3 years by that point with Fedde as his biggest deal and $5-$7.5 really pushing this year's budget...be authorized for $400-500 million???? JR is suddenly going to change after nearly 30 consistent years of Tier B/C/D guys and go for the equivalent of another Albert Belle deal? (Look at the Bulls' history here as well.) Not buying it at all...when the Cubs with all their various revenue sources are 50/50 at best to retain Kyle Tucker after this year.

Adrian Houser traded to TB for former top prospect Curtis Mead
Dodgers got Kopech from the Sox and facilitated Edman moving over to LA. Will former Sox Alex Call be their magic sauce this season for another title?

Trade deadline was all about the "superpen"
Venable certainly didn't want to name anyone the first 2-3 months. Felt like Leasure or Wilson more often than not...even Eisert depending on matchups.

Trade deadline was all about the "superpen"
Obviously the Sox aren't a playoff team until at least 2028...the point is Taylor's worth is far from being suppressed if he can become an elite or at least quasi elite closer. Other than Kelley...all the guys on the traded list are essentially #4-5 back of the rotation guys at this point in their careers. Houser obviously has pitcher better than that, but kind of a journeyman prior like Fedde, who technically was traded as well. Marlins didn't like what they were getting offered for Alcantara as well as Cabrera. Gore didn't have the offers, you can go down the line and look at all the Top 1-3 starters supposedly on the market. Keller from Pitt, etc. You can actually make the case Taj Bradley to the Twins was the most talented guy move with team control for 2-4 years.

Trade deadline was all about the "superpen"
What were the spring training odds of Grant Taylor being one of two Sox closers by mid summer? Smith would be able to ramp up to 97-100 in short 2-3 inning outings. Struggled all season going into the fifth and sixth...then hit his 2024 IP totals. Let's not forget he doesn't have a ton of mileage on his arm because of how little he pitcher for Wake Forest. That said would have to clean up the walks and HBP and stick with just 2-3 pitches instead of 4-5.

Trade deadline was all about the "superpen"
Wouldn't be a surprise at all to see Shane Smith, Oppor and McDougal all moving into the 2026/27 pen with Vasil swapping places with Smith... Hagen Smith turning into the next Andrew Miller...perhaps.

Trade deadline was all about the "superpen"
https://www.si.com/mlb/2025-trade-deadline-reflected-hard-truth-about-playoff-baseball Likely why Getz moved Taylor there...the whole idea of starters being so much more valuable based on fWAR and bWAR got flipped on its face as guys like Gallen, Alcantara and Keller stayed put. Would have had four elite guys moved at the deadline if not for the Clase gambling investigation. Doesn't even count Bednar going to NY.

2025 MLB season...catch-all for non-Sox, non AL-Central
Braves beat Reds in extras Per Elias Sports, it was only the third time in MLB history that both teams scored at least eight runs in the same inning, joining a Detroit Tigers-Texas Rangers game on May 8, 2004, and a Chicago White Sox-New York Yankees game on Aug. 2, 2007. No more runs came in the ninth, sending the game to extras, in which the Braves prevailed via a sacrifice fly from Marcell Ozuna in the 10th. Braves closer Raisel Iglesias prevented the ghost runner from scoring to deny the Reds their best win of the year. It all made for a fun win probability chart... yahoo.com/sports

Yankees acquire Austin Slater for RHP Gage Ziehl
More like California Pizza Kitchen or Cheesecake Factory level...but hardly classic fast food.

2024: AL Central Thread
It’s been just 21 months since an exciting, celebratory 2023 season in which the Twins won the division title and their first playoff series in two decades. There have been nothing but slashed payrolls, bad decisions, injuries, on-field collapses and various other sure-fire ways to wreck fan morale since then. Now, Twins fans are left hoping the trade deadline fire sale is followed by an actual sale, because 40 years of Pohlad ownership has led back to this familiar place that looks an awful lot like rock bottom. Fans deserve better, but they’re never going to get it until ownership changes. Pierzynski trade tree grows Shortly after the 2002 season, the Twins sent starting catcher A.J. Pierzynski to the San Francisco Giants for Joe Nathan, Francisco Liriano and Boof Bonser. Nearly a decade later, in July 2012, the Twins traded Liriano to the Chicago White Sox in a deal that included Eduardo Escobar, who became a quality regular for five seasons. Then, in July 2018, they traded Escobar to the Arizona Diamondbacks for a trio of prospects that included Jhoan Duran. Another branch has now grown from the Pierzynski trade tree, with Duran going to the Philadelphia Phillies for 23-year-old pitching prospect Mick Abel and 18-year-old catching prospect Eduardo Tait. Pierzynski is the gift that keeps on giving. Maybe they should build the trade a statue. https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6528334/2025/07/31/twins-trade-deadline-takeaways-team-sale/&sa=U&ved=2ahUKEwiAspituemOAxX6IEQIHdtdLUkQFnoECAsQAg&usg=AOvVaw0IXsk6VEjhR4Hc8QWmfFPV

"TWINS NEW MOTTO. rise as one mediocre franchise. Falvey had the nerve to say some of what was done today was reality of a small to mid-market team. The Twins have never charged small to mid-market prices for tickets or concessions since they moved into Target Field. The customer service sucks. The reality is we have horrible management and development staff and talent evaluators. This group has been here 7 years. Instead of investing in area scouts, advanced scouting video and data analytics Joe Pohlad made cuts in all those areas including the baseball academy and international scouting . WE HAVE D- OWNERS and a rinky dink run franchise. What a demoralizing day today was. There is not one way you can put a positive spin on what was done today. Falvey has a lot of nerve saying what he said when most of his first round picks have been busts, or trades away and he has been in charge for 7 years. What we have is ownership with no championship pedigree, Calvin Griffith built those teams, no bold vision and no ability to build a winning culture. Blame the fans all you want but the entertainment product sucks. The Pohlads are Zero's and stink at baseball. They lucked into buying it, lucked into Andy McPhail, Bob Gebbard, and will profit from it historically." https://twinsdaily.com/forums/topic/71714-trade-deadline-day-thread/page/32/#comments

@Joelsherman1 The Brewers have traded Nestor Cortes to the Padres for OF Brandon Lockridge

Robert stays...
Plus around the 10th hardest remaining schedule. At least Sox not missing 10 players like the Twins...and nearly their entire bullpen.

Looks like the Twins and eventually the Guardians will run out of resources eventually in the Central. Down to Detroit, KC if they get a new stadium, and the White Sox. Kwan might get moved as early as the offseason as he hits arbitration. Who knows what happens with closer Clase.

"Yes, Miller is amazing, but you know who else might be amazing? De Vries, a switch-hitting shortstop who might have the highest ceiling of any player in the minor leagues. The A's loved Miller, but this was likely not a hard decision for a team prioritizing its future years in Las Vegas over its Sacramento present. Get ready for the Leo de Vegas shirts. Thursday might have been the apex of Preller as a concept; he has never been shy about trading high-ceiling prospects when a star is on the table. From Thursday morning to Thursday afternoon, the Padres traded away 13 prospects for Miller, designated hitter Ryan O'Hearn, outfielder Ramon Laureano, infielder Will Wagner and starting pitcher Nestor Cortes Jr. These were not insignificant prospects, either." yahoo.com/sports SS Leo De Vries (#1) RHP Braden Nett (#3) LHP Boston Bateman (#4) SS Cobb Hightower (#6) RHP Ryan Bergert (#7) RHP Tyson Neighbors (#12) RHP Henry Baez (#13) RHP Eduarniel Nunez (#17) C Brandon Valenzuela (#26) 1B Victor Figueroa (#29) RHP…

"This all makes more sense when you consider the Twins are reportedly $440 million in debt (they save $70 million from the Correa trade alone), but that's a galling amount of talent to part with and still consider yourself a big-league team. Fans can stop watching this team this year and, sadly, probably for a while." "Luis Robert is essentially a reclamation project, given his struggles since his All-Star season in 2023, but you would have to imagine he'd be fine with removing himself from the White Sox organization in any way possible. Instead, he'll remain with a team currently holding a 40-69 record. At least there are fewer ignominious records for the Sox to break this season."

Nope. The Padres were all-in, later adding Ryan O'Hearn and Ramon Laureano from the Baltimore Orioles and catcher Freddy Fermin from the Kansas City Royals. Just like that, the Padres addressed all three of their glaring holes -- left field, DH and catcher -- while also adding one of the game's premier relievers. Indeed, already possessing arguably the game's best bullpen, the Padres now look like the team you won't want to play in October, when they'll run out one dominant reliever after another, inning after inning. The offense is now improved as well. Of course, they still have to get to the postseason, but this is a team that now looks capable of chasing down the Los Angeles Dodgers for the NL West title, which San Diego last won in 2006. espn.com LF DH C were their obvious offensive holes. Now they have the best bullpen in the game for two consecutive years down the stretch.

there you go, corrected JR won't invest 33% of payroll into Robert next year. Period. End of story.
