  1. QUOTE (Baron @ Apr 21, 2013 -> 01:41 PM) They were blasting the Sox the other day. Reinsdorf, Hahn/Williams or the coaching staff? Or everything Sox?
  2. The inevitable version of Gavin Floyd is back, perfectly timed. Javy-itis.
  3. Must have been criticizing them recently... Do those guys have a Sunday morning show? Or just during the week? We don't even have good villains like Mariotti or Cowley to fight with in the media this year, haha. 19,587 today. We're going to be threatening to go under 10,000 in one of these Indians games during the week.
  4. Never in a million years thought we'd ever want Eduardo Escobar back...
  5. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Apr 21, 2013 -> 01:33 PM) Anyone want to guess who the 3 worst players in baseball are this season, according to fWAR??? Hint: They are all playing in this game. Dunn and Keppinger, surely. Hicks, probably.
  6. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 21, 2013 -> 01:31 PM) This is not a flame, just a question. Is Walker still in Atlanta and is he beloved there? They got a pretty good team. Pitching. Besides Justin Upton, who certainly learned how to hit away from the tutelage of Greg Walker, some of their other stars like Heyward and BJ Upton were off to incredibly slow starts. Of course, they were missing McCann and Freeman, in fairness. Gattis has been a huge success story, too.
  7. QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 21, 2013 -> 01:26 PM) I think they give him 40 games, and if it's all the same, release him. Eat the money. We've never eaten more than $5 million on a contract. This would be closer to $20-25 million. Just don't see it happening. As much as we'd all like to move on.
  8. QUOTE (SpainSOXfan09 @ Apr 21, 2013 -> 01:25 PM) What are the options with Dunn really? DFA or clear waivers and send him down to AAA? Dunno just grasping at straws trying to find some sense to this madness. They're going to have to assess at some point the damage to the organization, attendance, etc., from trotting him out there every day... Of course, they also would have to study their ability to pay out XXX amount of money in a one-off payment vs. bi-weekly over the course of the season.
  9. Someone should be recording this game and sending it to every front office in baseball...maybe we actually can get something decent back for Floyd. Hopefully not another toolsy minor league outfielder with a Dunn/Flowers-like K ratio.
  10. QUOTE (JoshPR @ Apr 21, 2013 -> 01:17 PM) Nice ab for Paulie, didn't do too much Your man Rios trying too hard to create something there on his own. If you're stealing 3rd and no-contact Dunn is at the plate, you have to get there with a 100% confidence or wait on the next hitter...it's not like Alexei doesn't have a chance to drive him in from 2nd. Just not good baseball, but understandable with the offense in a stupor.
  11. DJ's excuse for Dunn is his swing path. Too long and not quick to the ball, guiding the bat and feeling for the ball. It's also hilarious how quickly they cut away from the booing to the radio break when Dunn strikes out to end an inning. Diamond still with a 5.40 ERA. Seems every game we're getting limited by bad pitchers, although Diamond was the best pitcher for the Twins last year (the tallest midget, admittedly).
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 21, 2013 -> 01:14 PM) PEople would complain more if it was a HR. Maybe. Except if it came from Adam Dunn or Courtney Hawkins...
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 21, 2013 -> 01:11 PM) © fathom, June 20, 2004. If we're going to add the equivalent of Jose Contreras and Freddy Garcia to our roster, which were the two key in-season moves in 2004...well, then there might be more of a reason to get excited.
  14. There's your run, Floyd. We can't even score in an exciting way, lol. Wild pitch and groundout, lowering Keppinger's average even further.
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 21, 2013 -> 01:05 PM) I am stunned by how awful the Sox lineup is today. Dunn has no business being in there, and the current bench shows a lack of preparation by the front office. The last two years of bench players have to be the worst that I can remember since becoming a White Sox fan. It was one of the biggest reasons the team wore down during the stretch last year...as much as we chided Ozzie for his Sunday line-ups, but we obviously didn't have credible replacements for Youk, DeAza, Ramirez (Olmedo still haunts my nightmares) and the nagging injuries just caught up with them, as well as the overuse of Sale/Quintana/Peavy. This is what results when you have all these players like Thornton who are paid like pseudo-closers and not set-up guys. And bench players disguised as starters in Keppinger. Obviously we have Dunn and Danks now soaking up payroll with the big contracts that look bad, but it's always those guys like Linebrink or Teahen that end up creating payroll problems in the final analysis.
  16. DeAza with another misread....broke back initially on contact, and then it was too late to readjust. Sigh.
  17. This is making 2007/09/11 look like OktoberFest compared to this....whatever it is.
  18. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Apr 21, 2013 -> 12:51 PM) Seaver was not on 83 team. Carlton Fisk...obviously. Baines was close.
  19. Mike Squires in the booth. Would take him over Dunn, and he wasn't even a good hitter, lol. Heck, since it's 1983 all over again with the uniforms, I'd much prefer to watch Rudy Law or Ron LeFlore than any outfielder not named Rios. Squires saying how LaRussa made a concerted effort to take that team out to eat together (he paid back in those days)...and that the 83 team was always together, always going to parties. That kind of thing just doesn't happen anymore.
  20. QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 21, 2013 -> 12:41 PM) Or as Hawk likes to say, 14-26. The 83 team went 50-16 the final 66 games. This team has no chance of doing that. Harrelson's already turning to that stat to try to inspire himself to invest in this season? I would have thought he'd wait until at least May for that "tried and true" nugget of wisdom which only is applicable about once every 30 years.
  21. QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 21, 2013 -> 12:41 PM) Or as Hawk likes to say, 14-26. The 83 team went 50-16 the final 66 games. This team has no chance of doing that. Especially when all of our games against the Tigers are back-loaded on the schedule this season. If Sox fans were going to look for a reason to believe, it would have to be heading into July with a 4-5-6 game lead in the division and at least the hope to somehow weather the Tigers' offensive and starting pitching onslaught in the head-to-head match-ups.
  22. Starting to think the reverse side of Ventura's "calm/poised" demeanor being a positive is that it's almost a sort of malaise that can affect the entire organization. Obviously, baseball isn't football or soccer where you need a more motivational, fiery type of leader...you can't get away with that in a 162 game season. BUT, it's like there is a stupor that has set in. We blamed Ozzie for leaving Dunn in there game after game after game, but the same thing's happening with Ventura, too. And it's not like Hahn has given him multiple options as a replacement. It's almost like having the likes of Wise/Tekotte/Danks all on the roster at the same time takes the pressure off Ventura for NOT benching him a game or two. When there was the idea of Lillibridge or Viciedo coming up in 2011, at least there were legitimate/credible options to debate. Now it's just...hard to get worked up or even care.
  23. White Sox 2013: OBLIVION Hawkins now with 32 K's in 49 AB's...another one in his first AB today. And we thought 2007 was bad.
  24. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Apr 21, 2013 -> 12:23 PM) We look like we are on quaaludes on offense. Trying to pull together the enthusiasm to boo Adam Dunn but half-hearted at best.
  25. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Apr 20, 2013 -> 09:25 PM) Player gets injured. Sign Lillian's pet. Two players injured. I thought Conor Jackson retired?
