Get it over with and let Buehrle go to Yanks/Red Sox
caulfield12 replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylt=AvIc...ndidates_082211 We could only dream about one of these guys. Instead, it will be Rick Hahn, Kim Ng or someone totally off the radar. Probably Josh Byrnes would be the best pick. -
Get it over with and let Buehrle go to Yanks/Red Sox

Well, we still have to rank ahead of the Astros, Cubs, Dodgers, Orioles, Mariners and probably the Mets. Although that's not saying much. And the sleeping giant on the northside could quickly reawaken with the right GM and manager in place and "stats-first" players like Ramirez and Soriano gone (yes, he has the same number of years as Dunn/Rios but the Cubs' new GM will be more likely to have the freedom dumping him than anyone the Sox have in that position vis a via Rios/Dunn/Peavy). After today, there's about a 90% probability we'll be 7 1/2 GB. "I'd love to add Jim Thome back, to be honest with you," said Guillen, who was looking for a more versatile designated hitter that also could play the field when Thome left for Minnesota in 2010. "A lot of people think I don't want Jimmy. It was just at that time we didn't have any place for him. "But I have said day in and day out that Jimmy is one of my favorite guys in baseball. That's up to [general manger] Kenny [Williams]. I don't know if we're going to have five DHs. I don't expect him to be here, but if they want to bring him here, if you ask anybody wearing this uniform if they want Jim Thome back, everybody here would say yes. But that's not our department." Scott Merkin Sure, we have Adam Dunn but we don't actually need him anymore. Who are the other 5 DH's? Viciedo? Konerko? Flowers? Lillibridge? Quentin? The prevailing hypocrisy, double-speak and knife in the back routine with KW and Guillen this year and has been more interesting than the play in the field. Sometimes (such as last night's MLB "game"), you really think Ozzie is daring Reindsdorf and/or KW to fire him.

2008: full no-trade clause 2009 - July 15, 2010: limited no-trade protection allowing Buehrle to block trades to certain unspecified clubs. A trade triggers an escalator paying $1M raise to $15M annually, plus a guaranteed fifth year paying $15M for 2012. July 16, 2010-2011: Buehrle may not be traded without his permission, under right as 10-and-5 player Fine, but it's stupid if they're going to lose Buehrle anyway just to hold on to him until the end of the season and not get anything back in return. And it's not about "trading everybody," this is one specific player, perhaps the only one in this particular situation on the roster that's needed for a specific purpose on another playoff team. If nothing else, they could save $3+ million dollars, if they're so deperate not to lose money this year. What are they going to do, offer arbritation and play the same game they played before with Cabrera to get a draft pick? Then you end up with Mark Buehrle at $15+ million plus for 2012 instead of a 2-3 year deal at a much more reasonable number they actually might be willing to pay to keep him in the fold. Why did we trade some of our veterans at the end of 2009 then during the same time period? This ship has already sunk. It's now simply about rearranging the deck chairs and saving as many people (or as much money) as possible. Same rationale went into giving up Ray Durham for Jon Adkins. They wanted to look at Willie Harris then and save money. We need to start assessing every aspect of this team for next year...if Buehrle's not going to be around, what's the point? You're telling me the Yankees would prefer to start Ivan Nova and Phil Hughes over Buehrle? I don't think so. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...0,5482496.story -
QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 23, 2011 -> 11:07 PM) You are hands down the best White Sox fan I've ever come across. You deserve some sort of commodation. Even this pathetic excuse of a team hasn't shaken you. I'm serious. Congrats on being No. 1 fan. Did you write THE HELP? Commode? Commendation? Hopefully he won't have a yard full of toilets like a certain character in the book.

He has full 10 and 5 rights. He would have to agree to any trade, or it would become part of the negotiation. Not sure he would agree to go to DET, but NY and Boston would be tough decisions for him and his family. -
6-11 in extra innings looming, and 6 1/2 GB. It's basically all over but the fat lady singing. Once again, can't get back over .500 yet again. Ozzie continuing to manage like it's the final game of the minor league season and the results don't actually matter. What new???

Time to see which White Sox hitters can get around on a 97-99 MPH fastball besides Konerko.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 23, 2011 -> 10:27 PM) vs lefties this year...who's who? .289/.313/.368/.682 .228/.307/.342/.649 .220/.278/.300/.578 They are Thornton, Ohman, and Sale in order. Difference is, Thornton and Sale hold righties below a .700 OPS too, so they can be used for an inning or two at a time. Righties are hitting at an .813 clip against Ohman. The game is tied, you need one lefty out, and you have enough other options to use against righties. Who do you want pitching in the 13th, given this information, Matt Thornton or Will Ohman? The problem is that you plan for the extra inning game with the White Sox offense but then Ozzie seems to end up losing the game before we can get there as often and not....and now Konerko's bat isn't in the line-up, either. I don't know. No matter what you do, this team just doesn't have it in 2012 and hasn't all year. It's like 2007 and 2009 all over again.

QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Aug 23, 2011 -> 10:24 PM) De Aza hasn't been coached long enough by Walker to ruin his swing. If we don't have a new hitting coach next season, I'd rather see him in the minors again where we can save his potential. Except he's already 29 or 30, isn't he? At least 28.

There's danger here, Sheree.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 23, 2011 -> 10:21 PM) Cause it's still early. We play Detroit six more times and play the Central the final 21 games or so. Obviously sarcasm. He got VERY lucky there. I guess it worked, but it wasn't a wise move.
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 23, 2011 -> 10:19 PM) 1.) DeAza can run. He hits the ball very hard. He seems to belong. How old is he? I like him? There is absolutely no reason to play Rios over him next year. None. It will be criminal if Rios plays ahead of this guy. 2.) Exactly. It is a fairy tale that he will bounce back again, but the Dunn lovers will always have the upper hand on us. They'll say, 'You wait. He will break out of this and when he does...' It's not going to happen. He is horrific and I just wish Sox would let him earn his money as a pinch hitter in blowouts. Except he can't earn $14 million doing that. He's costing us the same as Ramirez, Thornton, Viciedo, Sale, Morel, Flowers, DeAza, Humber and Santos next year.
-
Here's where I will wonder why Sale or Thornton aren't being used when we simply can't afford to lose another game to the Tigers.
-
Is anyone willing to bet even $100 that Dunn hits 35 homers with 100 RBI's next year?
-
2000 career hits for Konerko. Congratulations. the greatest White Sox player since Frank Thomas clearly. Only 107 homers to 500 and the Hall of Fame.
-
QUOTE (Friend of Nordhagen @ Aug 23, 2011 -> 10:07 PM) Hey, De Aza might be good. Probably has as many steals as Juan Pierre in the 2nd half. Which wouldn't be saying much.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 23, 2011 -> 10:04 PM) Just saw the Kendrick triple. Pretty awful adjustment made by Rios. It was, he drifted way too far to the left and essentially overran it enough that he couldn't correct at the last second. Harrelson was right, it should have been caught. He has never ever learned to go straight back at full speed to where he thinks the ball should be and then finding it again...just bad fundamentals which apparently nobody has corrected with either the Blue Jays or Sox. At best, it was a dubious route. But that's what you expect on any ball hit over Rios' head this season.
-
Gordon's thanking his lucky stars he won't be facing the high fastball from Walden in the 9th. Not a pretty sight. Konerko might be the only chance to tie the game...let's hope he hits a solo homer. Nobody else will be able to get to his fastball.
-
QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Aug 23, 2011 -> 10:01 PM) I think trying a new hitting coach wouldn't hurt either. And even that won't matter much in the "doomsday" scenario described. About the only thing that would be worse from a fan standpoint would be losing Buehrle AND Konerko in one offseason.
-
QUOTE (kapzk @ Aug 23, 2011 -> 10:00 PM) It wasn't too bad of a choice, obviously it was out of the ordinary, but high chopper he was already rounding 2nd when the infielder got rid of the ball so might as well try. Except he was the tying run there in the late innings and the advantage of being at 3rd base with two outs isn't significant. Maybe Santana could throw another pitch in the dirt, but that's not enough of a justification to take the risk.
-
Perfect, the White Sox suck and at least posters are all simultaneously wondering if maybe Rios/Dunn/Peavy can be involved in a hunting accident, lol. Fitting, though. I'm about ready to send good 'ol boys Harrelson and Beckham with them on that trip, too.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 23, 2011 -> 09:55 PM) Any chance we can get Adam Dunn, Jake Peavy and Gil Meche to become hunting buddies this offseason? Can Dick Cheney and Alex Rios also be there?
-
Mental/physical error #5 or #6 tonight. We're just not good enough to cover up all those mistakes. Shame on Ozzie for never holding a single player accountable all season except Rios for 2 games.
-
Juan Uribe wasn't too shabby, either.
