  1. Would have been a huge RBI opportunity for Gordo. We just seem to get "breaks" ONLY about 10-15% of the time this year. Maybe it's "make-up" for everything breaking right in 2005? Teahen had a 3-0 count, jeez.
  2. Bases loaded. Ball hit him on the right forearm instead of his bat. Shades of JD in 2005, haha?
  3. Ramirez finally reaches the 240 mark, 600+ OPS. Teahen, our scary 220 corner IF with 2 homers, 7 RBI's and a mid to low 600's OPS from 3B. One of the five worst infield defenders in all of the ALCD.
  4. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 16, 2010 -> 01:51 PM) Caufield this team isn't good enough to say we've "wasted opportunities." I would call a combined 4-8 against two of the truly terrible teams in the AL (along with BALT and SEA) very much a "wasted opportunity." They don't get any more wasted than that, this weekend of games was set up on a silver platter for us to make up at least ONE game in the standings.
  5. HOW MANY OF US SAID Thome would be getting a ton of DH at-bats (playing with Kubel against RHP and D. Young on the bench)?
  6. Thome walked on a 3-2 count with the bases loaded right before Kubel's AB. Couldn't locate the cutter inside against either of the two lefties. Thome 3/14 lifetime against MO with 2B, HR and some big RBI's now. Yankees' stadium just deathly quiet, it will be their first victory in NY in something like three years if they hold on. Twins were only 8 for 51 with the bases loaded before that AB. Just over the RF fence down the line. 8 GB. I was just about to post how we wasted a HUGE opportunity this weekend to get to 5-6 GB and it's now like we basically just wasted a HUGE opportunity to make up some ground with them playing the Yankees.
  7. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 15, 2010 -> 11:46 PM) Great win. Don't like when Peavy gets all mad when replaced. It was the right call to bring in relief. He gets taken deep and he's a loser tonight. Gotta trust the bullpen at that stage. Glad to see us get five runs after looking like s*** early. Is Beckham coming around slowly I hope? Oh and I forgot. Nice job, Peavy. Good effort again. Peavy is the highest paid player on our team. That's what we got him for... Do you trust Jenks over Peavy in that situation? Not I. And we can't pitch Thornton in 90-100 games, he already was suffering from muscle spasms and it's only mid May.
  8. There was a brief scare when Thornton's left triceps muscle suffered a spasm tribune.com seems to be just a muscle spasm and nothing more serious, fingers crossed
  9. I thought Teahen was supposed to be our smartest baserunner? UGH. Jenks and Thornton really enjoy 1 run leads, so 2 would have been a bit nice/r.
  10. How much time has Retherford played at 1B in his college and minor league career? The thing is, Kotsay is a very good defender at 1B and also better than CJ in the OF...according to Farmer, he and Vizquel are the "best baseball players" on our team. Whatever that means, Farmio. In all seriousness, I'd like to see the kid succeed, just because of the odds against any NDFA are simply incredible. He's had to prove himself every step along the way, and his promotion would give hope to all players who scouts don't grade highly but who just play the game and get everything out of their talent/ability.
  11. Peavy at 83 pitches. Obviously he has the 7th, then it gets interesting when the line-up turns over and you have Peavy at 100-110 pitches probably. Undoubtedly, it will be Thornton against Pods/DeJesus. Just hoping Butler or Guillen don't take Jenks deep, or Callaspo/Betancourt.
  12. Gift hit from Gordon to make up for last night's scoring reversal. I think he's guessing too much. He's thinking curveball or offspeed, he swings at it, no matter what the location. He should have really drilled that second pitch, hanging slider up in his eyes with "hit me" written all over it.
  13. Not really. If I wanted to play Devil's Advocate and argue, a case could be made, but I would list at least 6-8 teams below us in this category. Pirates, Astros and Royals for sure, and the Orioles and Jays, you just have no chance with those three teams stacked at the top of the division. Oakland, I don't really worship Beane and that stadium might be the worst now in the majors...very boring offense, too. Padres, MEHHHHH.
  14. Okay, why would you rather have CJ Retherford than Jayson Nix on your roster as the 25th man? Nix has proven (in limited exposure to RH pitching) major league power, and is a "plus" defender at 2B, "pretty good" at 3B and "adequate/average" at SS. CJ could never play major league shortstop. Maybe you can argue he's the 3rd catcher, but how often does that factor into a game??? And you would pick Nix over Retherford as a pinch-runner as well.
  15. I voted for the Pirates. Tempted to vote for us, though. At least the Astros made the World Series in 2005, and they had a pretty good run of playoff appearances or at least competing year in and year out for much of the last 20 years or so. Plus, their park is new(er) and they draw pretty well, all things considered. Royals fans, with the exception of April-July of 2003, haven't had anything to get excited about since George Brett retired. Well, I take that back, there was Bo Jackson.
  16. Has anyone seen the WGN TV ratings? I would imagine that if Nielsen did a survey at 10 pm EST, it might be under 1,000 viewers in the entire US.
  17. Beckham at .189, 542 OPS. Yikes. Has a TSN Rookie of the Year ever been demoted in the first three months (or two months, lol) of the following season? Might break another record with that dubious "achievement."
  18. Balta, is that in green? If CJ hits 240 with his lack of power (and lack of a position where he excels defensively like Nix), he's going to end up sporting a 650 OPS, like Mark Teahen. Plus he can't run very well, just so-so.
  19. I thought of including Florida Marlins, Washington and Cincy, but they have Stanton/Strasburg/Chapman respectively. The other team I considered was SEATTLE.
  20. Only reason to follow this game is Paciorek for me. I really miss hearing that voice. Gordon Beckham one more missed opportunity...Charlotte looms. He's just completely feeling for the ball and not swinging the bat with any authority. Alexei Ramirez leading the majors with 29 foul homers. Ramirez, what were you doing with that 2-0 count?????? Brain/vapor lock again sets in.
  21. Great, that homer just guaranteed Butler would be our DH for 2010.
  22. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 15, 2010 -> 07:33 PM) I'd like you to name 3 guys from the '07 team worth watching. Alex Rios and John Danks alone make this team more worth watching over that one. Josh Fields and Jerry Owens were fun to follow the 2nd half that year. Even Wasserman as a rookie. Buehrle had his first no-hitter.
  23. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ May 15, 2010 -> 07:27 PM) he's definitely not a 3rd baseman. I'd rather see what Morel can do We want a 1B with a 675-725 OPS, don't think so. You can't have Morel AND Teahen on the corners and expect anything but last place.
  24. That might be the game if Hochevar's A "stuff" is there tonight. Let's hope he lets us back into the game somehow. This HAS to be the bottom, getting swept by the KC Royals goes right up there with 1-5 against CLE. That's a sure sign of lack of competitiveness within our own division against the two worst teams.
  25. They should just give the Gold Glove award to Teahen right now and prevent wasting time even voting...Actually, FWIW, Ramirez probably should have taken that ball, had the better chance to make that throw. Jake Peavy=Dennis Leonard according to Paciorek
