  1. Worst.Roster.Ever.
  2. You just made the counter-argument for why trading All-Stars for unproven prospects has such limited success. Plus, we can't even get Top (1) 3-4 draft picks right at this point...other than Rodon, the most successful first rounders have all come from the middle section like Anderson Sale Crochet and Burger. (Fulmer and Collins other Top Ten busts).
  3. Chris Sale only did it twice. If Smith comes out and hits his marks again on Sunday, when he’s scheduled to oppose Garrett Crochet of all people, it will be the first streak of three games meeting those criteria in all of franchise history. (Smith has now put together consecutive starts of two or fewer hits, two or fewer runs, and at least 17 outs...which has only happened in consecutive starts 18 times since 1901.)
  4. White Sox: Shane Smith, good addition There always are going to be missteps across the length of a full season, but through two strong starts, the right-hander appears to be a shrewd pick at the top of the 2024 Rule 5 Draft. Smith impressed during Spring Training, handling the Dodgers’ regular lineup during one appearance, and has allowed only four hits over 11 2/3 innings in the regular season. Smith, 25, added a changeup through his own offseason work, against which the opposition is hitting .083, and is taking full advantage of this fully healthy opportunity. -- Scott Merkin
  5. Mid and small market teams that generally trade away future Cy Young winners or MVP's like Mookie Betts for financial reasons rarely end up winning those trades...
  6. So let's give the Crochet trade until the end of the year before jumping to declare it great, fair value or disappointing. Of course, it will likely take 3-5 years or longer to determine.
  7. Well...then they're not yet convinced calling up Teel or Quero to debut on the road in freezing weather against a playoff team is a great idea as of yet. Quero's the one who would get promoted today...based on recent hitting numbers.
  8. We have no way of knowing that's true about Braden...just like you had no way of knowing Colson Montgomery would start falling off Top 100 lists by mid April. Just like Kristian Campbell is the first fourth rounder to ever receive a massive extension before stepping foot on a big league field for more than ten days...shouldn't every team have drafted him before that if they were as good at identifying talent as Boston?? In fact, no second or third rounder has ever gotten such an early extension, either.
  9. you want to lose a year of control over Quero or Teel for just ONE game in April this year when we're already out of any race...?
  10. Well goodbye any trade value if they adopt this strategy...might as well give him the Moncada 2024 treatment then. Welcome, Greg Jones! Yikes.
  11. Veterans Maton Thaiss and Tauchman combined still don't equal the trade value of Martin Perez to the Orioles...the three best swing decision guys.
  12. It was a "solid" or fair return at the time. Nobody else at SoxTalk thought it was great, because we didn't get Campbell, Anthony or Mayer. Those were the three true prizes of the Red Sox system. In the end, they need to get at least 2 3+ fWAR players out of Teel/Montgomery/Meidroth to "break even," but ask nearly every big league GM if they'd take one in their prime 6+ fWAR ace/TOR pitcher or two 3 fWAR prospects? Ask everyone if they would have rather gotten any of those Big 3 players + Teel or Big 3 + Montgomery and almost everyone will give up Gonzalez and Meidroth on the back end of that trade for the close to "can't miss" Top 10-15 MiLB prospect... Not to mention there was SOME not inconsiderable risk attached to Braden Montgomery's ankle/foot injury from last season at Texas A&M. Fwiw, I think we had this same debate a week or so ago about Jake Eder and Burger and the description utilizing the adjective "great"... but I will refrain from calling anyone a "liar" since it's impossible to prove or quantify or verify at this point. And you can certainly argue that NONE of those three players were available or at least MADE AVAILABLE to the White Sox for Crochet, but we'll never really know the "real/objective" truth here.
  13. Anderson is basically it. (18.9 total fWAR with the White Sox) Robert, especially for two seasons, 2000 and 2023 (12.4 total fWAR). Burger, depending upon your opinion of him. Not exactly a great testament to your system with Romy Gonzalez might be the 4th/5th biggest big league contributor on the position player side...obviously Moncada is Top 5 due to fWAR/bWAR but still not worth the return on investment overall. Or Nick Madrigal.
  14. Braden Montgomery might have been left off of ONE list, but that's pretty much a solid middle 100's MiLB prospect list addition if ever there was one (plus the Red Sox are MUCH more trusted industry-wide on prospect identification and/or development in general). Of course, the problem is with the 6 TJS (and counting), as well as the collapse of Colson Montgomery. Any rise by Grant Taylor at best cancels some of the Montgomery slippage out.
  15. Canario...not Jeimer Candelario Viciedo's about 35 or 40 and was last seen playing in Japan. Colas is nobody's favorite...unless they're connected to Clevinger somehow.
  16. 2020 34-26 Lost NL Wild Card Series (Won 0 Rounds) 2019 84-78 Missed Playoffs 2018 95-68 Lost NL Wild Card (Won 0 Rounds) 2017 92-70 Lost NL Championship Series (Won 1 Round) 2016 103-58 Won World Series 2015 97-65 Lost NL Championship Series (Won 2 Rounds)
  17. It would take all the pressure from AL East and West ownership groups about the four Central teams having an unfair competitive advantage...especially if three teamd make the playoffs again this season. Not to mention lower attendance/shared gate revenues...at least SAC and TB have "exciting/lively" home environments now...and zero draws for all these teams when the Sox come to town, except maybe expected blowout Victorian for the home team?
  18. Swing decisions!!!
  19. He and Tanner McDougal seem to possess the two best arms in the low minors.
  20. They're on the road. Think Kyle Williams doesn't travel to save his paper money. Pool reports or only info from CLE side probably.
  21. Why wasn't Jones inserted as PR again?
  22. Gut punch of a loss. Sox have that trade marked these last three seasons. 2-9 vs. 3-22
  23. Or the Royals should have invested money into, but it's all going to Perez Witt Lugo Wacha Estevez, etc.
  24. And Torkelson, ofc, is becoming a legit threat in DET now...
