They will need to come up with $500 million to $1 billion for a new stadium as well...at least 50% or more of the costs. If they ever want to build back the value of their media rights they can't run a team out there without a single star player. Baseball...after all, is an entertainment-based endeavor.

What other solution is there? Waiting on uncertain minor league prospects is far from guaranteed. It worked for KC Houston Cubs in the previous generation of rebuilding teams...but look at where the Sox Padres and Blue Jays are right now. Sox have hopefully bottomed out, but the other two are in pretty precarious positions.

It would be weird to only focus on his strikeouts (negatively), or ONLY focus on his two well-hit balls off fastballs (one off Thielbar, the homer...the other today in his 3rd at-bat that was a line-up with high EV and probability of being a hit if it wasn't right at the outfielder. In that case, he would be hitting .286 instead of .143 and there would be less "sighing/exasperation" over every little thing he does/has done. That said, anointing him as a possibility to start the season at SS has put some additional pressure on him, in terms of media and fan expectations. Not sure that was really necessary...maybe they feel they need to challenge him? Whatever works as motivation...God knows what they did with Vaughn and Sheets these years, because they never REALLY risked losing their spot on the team no matter what they did or didn't do on the field of play.

You ranked Smith that high because he has to stay on the roster or be offered back...or you're unsure about Thorpe's long-term viability as a starter/health/injury status? Or both? Nastrini arguably could be lower than Iriarte, but that's not really a big difference obviously.

Cannon and Thorpe right now (before the Big 3) are the only even 50/50 possibilities sticking around. Martin seems likely to be traded. Perez for sure will be traded if he's anywhere close to second half 2024 results with the Padres. Wilson if they don't need to keep him to eat innings and protect the next wave. Scholtens...not even sure he's long for baseball, let alone representing any type of trade value when/if he returns. But the next wave is Iriarte, Mason Adams, Ky Bush, Nastrini, Carela, Eder (likely a reliever from all indications)...Berroa, but he might already be out (with elbow injury) and he's once again more likely a reliever. There are a LOT of dudes and the overall depth seems better, but what's the actual quality of that depth?

Iriarte needs three pitches as a starter. Better location. Fastball not good enough to blow guys away when when down in the count. Not much confidence in his change up today. Maybe needs a cutter/splitter...two pitch mix simply doesn't work without dominant stuff. The only pitcher with close to great stuff SD has EVER traded under Preller was Gore in the Wood Abrams Santana Hassell deal for Soto. ONE guy. That was not a reliever profile first.

He can drill low fast balls. That's a known. Fielding and belt high and above FBs are the unknown. Typically lefty hitting profile really. Just has to hit 230 or 240...no sub 200's numbers like Gallo. Or MMadonado. Also 0/6 on the spring. There's a correlation with him he absolutely sucks offensively.

Sure...might as well retain one silver of hope lol. If Anthony and Campbell become stars in Boston we're still wondering what could have been...Marcelo Mayer was the only one that could have been pried loose, but then no Teel and Braden packaged together.

Anderson was never in a million years good enough to be a big league closer. Don't need stats to bear that out. If not for White Sox he doesn't have a big league salary anywhere else.
