  1. At least the Bears are competing...
  2. The Bulls are a cash cow and consistently draw well at least. The White Sox are much worse off than the Twins in 2001-02 when the commissioner threatened to contract them...but only due to the Chicago market and history will Reinsdorf be spared, seemingly. And greed. The owners want to expand, not move teams around the chessboard.
  3. Now if only TB had a stadium to play in...public funding for stadium roof repairs after the hurricane hung up now by politics.
  4. The A&M/Auburn and OU/Bama games were strangely compelling... Illinois with one of the best/craziest finishes of the day and Iowa winning with their 5th string emergency QB at the start of the season on the road. Prime Time got knocked down just a peg or two at Arrowhead...somehow UK on the verge of a bowl after that awful start but just knocked off three Top 20 teams in a row while under .500. Hail Mary at ASU almost worked after ASU fans rushed the field. Lincoln Riley held onto his job (maybe) by beating UCLA. Minnesota almost knocked off that annoying PSU team that's never quite the sum of all it's parts. Only OSU IND sucked after the wheels came off at end of first half with punter muffing snap in rain.
  5. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ron_Marinaccio More importantly...they can sell some Italian sandwiches in conjunction with his appearance.
  6. Bubic Lynch Marsh were all trade bait but they traded Singer instead to get a true leadoff hitter in India.
  7. Julks and Sheets a week away from being an average MLB hitter? Well, I guess if they were catchers.
  8. Micah Johnson?
  9. The second biggest recent draft success after Anderson is arguably Burger... who was essentially written off by the Sox, he succeeded largely due to his own initiative. At the very least, he can at least be considered a dangerous hitter who can make very solid contact based on EV, albeit one who Ks too much and doesn't walk enough and is defensively limited.
  10. They don't exist anymore because teams cut short season and A teams...Buehrle would never have been drafted in the 38th round in today's game because of minor league budget cuts after Covid.
  11. Only a $130,000 signing bonus, though. Once you're past the first 2-3 rounds...you're fighting long odds to make the major leagues based on past history.
  12. https://sports.yahoo.com/forever-a-basketball-school-curt-cignetti-has-awakened-a-sleeping-giant-of-a-football-program-at-indiana-133249231.html
  13. Semien was drafted in the 34th round. Tatis signed for a relative pittance. Abreu was the target of only 2-3 teams because there were so many quality 1B back in 2014. Luis Robert finished 12th in the 2023 MVP race and 2nd in 2020 RoY voting. That's four MVP's or at least legit MVP candidates on the position player side.
  14. “Benintendi has three years and $50-ish million left on his deal, making him a tough contract to move at the age of 30. If the Sox are interested in recouping good prospects for him, they should be willing to take on a majority of his money. If it's just about getting rid of the money, the Sox likely won't have many takers or won't be able to attract a top return.“ Jeff Passan, ESPN 4:16 pm Saturday https://www.si.com/fannation/mlb/fastball/news/former-all-star-andrew-benintendi-reportedly-on-the-trade-market-for-chicago-white-sox
  15. Except for the guy who kept trolling him all around SoxTalk about a Jeep dealership… I do think he’s too excited about Lux being one of the main pieces coming back for Crochet or Robert, though. What good will he do in two years when JR won’t extend him? In that sense, keeping Vaughn is almost as meaningless but theoretically Lux would go back to SS (where he doesn’t belong) with the Sox.
  16. Outman...will be next. Or Pages.
  17. Hays is the only truly interesting name out there right now... (Unless you're a massive Gavin Lux fan, if there is such a thing.) Almost makes one pine for Brendan Rodgers, though, if we are actually going into the season with Amaya as the starting SS.
  18. That trade makes zero sense for the Royals unless Massey's back is shot and even then starting pitching was the reason they got to the post season...they doubled down on a Wacha extension but Singer much more affordable and younger. India is what you would get back in return for Vaughn...
  19. Massey has back issues apparently…
  20. https://www.sportingnews.com/us/mlb/los-angeles-dodgers/news/dodgers-blockbuster-trade-idea-lands-all-star-ace-swap-gavin-lux/6613acd371df633e1c5cfd56 Harold must be more excited about Lux being the centerpiece of a Crochet trade…Getz will magically be enticed and not ask for one of LA’s top 3 prospects with visions of sugar plums dancing in his head.
  21. “The Reds’ rotation is expected to have All-Star Hunter Greene, Nick Martinez and Singer plus Nick Lodolo, Andrew Abbott, Rhett Lowder, Carson Spiers and Graham Ashcraft in the mix for the remaining spots.“ Reds now seemingly have a surplus of starting pitching…
  22. “So if you’re baseball, if you’re the NBA, if you’re the NHL, you still need access to the pay TV bundle for most, if not all, of your teams. And the ones that have forgone it have made a decision for a while to go to zero on the rights fees, my guess is they’ll probably have to come back to it.” That’s right; Crakes is predicting a back to the future development for those teams that have touted a move away from pay TV, like the Utah Jazz and Phoenix Suns. These teams are using a combination of over the air channels and streaming. And they are not shy about boasting a huge increase in viewership, which is a given when a paywall is removed
  23. So they're "teaching him a lesson" somehow, still? It's the only thing that makes sense...just barely. At least the way the Sox operate with grudges, such as the Giolito union rep theory. Or simply managers wanting to play "trusted" vets over younger players.
  24. Not to mention Crochet, Burdi...KW did it with Poreda and Ring, drafting for immediate big league roster holes.
  25. So why still hold onto Colas at this point...just as a backup to your backup plan? It's not like Getz signed him.
