Sox up to #18 in new BA system rankings

White Sox Last year: 25th, $137 million Top 100 prospects: 3 The White Sox turned the page on one incarnation of their major league team by trading Lucas Giolito, Reynaldo Lopez, Lance Lynn, Joe Kelly and Jake Burger. Dylan Cease and Yoan Moncada remain as the last two core players whose contracts end in the next two seasons, so Chicago is building back up with a farm system on the upswing. Colson Montgomery could be in Chicago by the second half of 2024 and followed the next season by a number of potential everyday players and rotation candidates. Lefty Noah Schultz is the other prospect with a real shot to be a core player -- with some Chris Sale vibes about him -- but he has only thrown 27 pro innings. The farm system still needs more depth and quality to project another contending team coming soon, but that should continue as new general manager Chris Getz appears to be in young player addition mode. -
23. Chicago White Sox: C With a blockbuster trade of Dylan Cease still looming over this organization — and not knowing whether such a deal will come before Opening Day or late July — it's a bit difficult to judge Chicago's offseason as it continues its rebuild. I dig the Erick Fedde and Martin Maldonado signings, but analyzing the moves GM Chris Getz has made thus far as the White Sox enter a year with little to no expectations of competing is relatively frivolous as long as Cease remains on the roster. Nailing the Cease trade will be the most important thing Getz will do in the coming months, and the return will go a long way toward confirming or invalidating his decision to hang onto the prized pitcher through much of the winter. We'll go C for Cease but honestly, consider this grade incomplete. https://www.foxsports.com/stories/mlb/mlb-offseason-grades-dodgers-braves-yankees-earn-highest-marks

They’re definitely not that high on either prospect, more upset about draft capital, although they must not realize how bad the Sox have done with second and third round picks compared to the Mariners historically. Fans acting like they just clinched the AL West. That’s laughable.

Sox looking at building in South Loop

Even teams like the Cubs and Red Sox with the most iconic stadiums in baseball barely maintain a competitive advantage these days...let alone a warmed over Old Comiskey. -
I was trying to find David Schoenfield quotes on the Mariners' trade since he covers them...somehow this was one the stories that was connected to him via X.

Sox trade Cristian Mena to Arizona for OF Dominic Fletcher

Jesus Pena lol Jose Quintana well sorta Hector Mendoza and Carlos Torres. Well...there's nobody. Yosimar Cousin. -
So two interesting parts of this story...the lies about "Adam Eaton having a mortgage or not" and how the $13 million the Sox saved with LaRoche's salary is what actually enabled the Shields/Tatis trade to be consummated on the Sox side. https://theathletic.com/2445000/2021/03/15/it-was-kind-of-nuts-5-years-later-former-white-sox-reflect-on-the-adam-laroche-saga/ https://fanstreamsports.com/drake-laroche-is-married-5-years-after-adam-laroche-white-sox-controversy/

Orioles Acquire Corbin Burnes for Ortiz/Hall/34th Pick

https://global.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/39446244/pitcher-corbin-burnes-exactly-needed "A big trade and I think a big addition and moment for our team. Corbin Burnes is exactly what we needed," Mike Elias said Friday. "We were in a dogged pursuit of him the entire offseason. Obviously there were other starting pitchers that we pursued, but it's hard to have somebody higher than Corbin Burnes on your wish list." -
Sox trade Cristian Mena to Arizona for OF Dominic Fletcher

At 5-foot-6, 185 pounds, Fletcher has nevertheless managed to cut an imposing figure at the plate since Arizona drafted him in 2019. In more than 1,600 minor league appearances, he has hit .295/.366/.474 with 42 home runs and 201 RBIs, and in 28 games with the Diamondbacks last season, Fletcher hit .301/.350/.441 with a pair of home runs and 14 RBIs. The younger brother of Atlanta utilityman David Fletcher, the left-handed hitter will compete for right-field at-bats, with All-Star Luis Robert Jr. in center and Andrew Benintendi in left. Arizona traded from a position of strength, with All-Star Corbin Carroll, Yuli Gurriel, Alek Thomas, Jake McCarthy and the recently signed Joc Pederson all outfielders. Mena, 21, throws a hard curveball, a low-to-mid-90s fastball and will provide upper-level rotation depth after striking out 156 in 133.2 innings between Double A and Triple A last season. espn.com -

Gio Gonzalez comes out of retirement to pitch for the Sox three times after being traded away twice… -
As for what the Mariners dealt away, Berroa, 23, possessed comparable stuff to Santos, but he’s struggled mightily to harness it. After debuting on July 21, Berroa walked three of the eight batters he faced in the Majors, which clouded some trust in leverage moments from Mariners manager Scott Servais. He also had a 14.1% walk rate at Double-A Arkansas, slightly better than his 16.8% clip the year prior but still high. Some have pointed to his command being a focus issue rather than stuff, but he’ll nonetheless need to be in the zone more to be a consistent big league contributor. DeLoach, 25, was Seattle’s second-round pick in the shortened 2020 Draft but has yet to make his MLB debut, though that was likely to come this season after he was added to the 40-man roster in November. The former Texas A&M Aggie slashed .286/.387/.481 (.868 OPS) with 23 homers and 88 RBIs over 138 games last season, all at Triple-A Tacoma. But he also carried a 27.8% K rate that left some scouts pondering how he’d handle Major League pitching. As for the Draft pick, it’s the first that the Mariners have traded under president of baseball operations Jerry Dipoto and general manager Justin Hollander. The two have been leery of dealing such picks, underscoring the value they see in Santos. https://www.mlb.com/news/gregory-santos-traded-to-mariners-from-white-sox Analysis mostly coming from M’s perspective on upside of Santos.

Still, SSS makes predicting or projecting a 3.5ish fWAR way too premature. Need at least 300-350 at bats to start drawing any type of conclusions yet. -
Easy to understand surrendering two lesser prospects and the more comfortable ceiling/floor on Burnes for just one season. Then they reassess at the deadline or next offseason.

Paddy is getting crushed for Yogurt Vera Cespedes and Colas recently but his lifetime record is impossible to argue with. All comes down to budget AND willingness to spend. -
How has Andrew Vaughn escaped trade speculation ?

At least he put up a 6 fWAR season in his career.
