Sox trade Cristian Mena to Arizona for OF Dominic Fletcher

Or the Dodgers in 2025... -
Second playoff run has a lot of value. One year you end up with Burnes offers, especially with Boras as agent unwilling to look at extension possibilities.

Eaton and Avi both had good to great individual seasons. You have to go all the way back to Dye for someone who could hit and throw...just really lost a lot of range when he broke his leg. He was always a really big guy, but he moved much better with the Braves and Royals. We got the second half of his career. -
How has Andrew Vaughn escaped trade speculation ?

We would just end up with Sheets there lol...is that more promising? -
This makes a lotta sense if they all collectively decided Getz price was unacceptable...and to look for more realistic options.

Who would take the ENTIRE 2024 White Sox organizational roster of minor league pitchers as of today over: Kopech Giolito Dunning Cease Victor Diaz their FV’s aggregated on the day/s they were traded for? Nobody. Not one person on this board. Which goes to show how long and far the road is with only Cease and Robert left to trade and no Top 5 picks either. -

Why don’t you also provide this superb service for SSHM, lol? Apparently you would likely agree we have enough quality young pitching, since 22 wasn’t even enough? Kevin Beirne makes it 23. It would take Loiaza/Contreras, Freddy Garcia, McCarthy and El Duque to push them over the top five years later. -
Getz can’t afford to be stubborn NOR get a net return of zero…they will never be able to get to the point of contention without enough younger cost-controlled prospects.

https://bleacherreport.com/articles/219091-white-sox-top-10-bust-prospects-of-the-last-20-years This list is ridiculous, but the 1998-2001 seasons had AT LEAST 10-12 pitchers ranked at 45+ FV and above. We’re not ANYWHERE close to this group or the 2017-2019 pitching ranks. 2000 system was consensus #1 in the game, also headlined by Joe Borchard and Crede Look at the bust rate. Matt Ginter, Aaron Myette, Barcelo, Jason Stumm, Kris Honel, Snyder, Brian West, Purvis, Karchner made it to an extent but fell apart/traded Jason Bere, Wright, Baldwin, Biddle, Parque, Rauch, Guerrier guys who actually made it Josh Fogg, Kip Wells, Buehrle, Garland There was another fringe top ten guy who ended up with CLE whose name is eluding me… -

Rudy Law and Tom Paciorek and LeFlore worked in the old stadium…definitely will require lots of winning ugly like 1983. Still need power guys like Kittle Baines Fisk Luzinski though. -

Reminiscent of 2012 under rookie manager Ventura feel…hopefully…but even that team had Sale and Q, a bundle of rookies with Reed closing, and then the last vestiges of the 2005 team holding on for dear life. Of course we also managed to overlook Marcus Semien being in that mix somehow. -

Jake Paul or Burger? Did the same thing coming up with Hector Mendoza instead of Santiago in another thread. As far as results with other teams, it’s because so few Sox prospects ever hit the ground running…yet seem to make bigger impacts across the majors on other teams. Then when guys like Beckham or Viciedo had decent rookie years, the sophomore slump got them. Nearly every young hitter but TA, Robert and possibly Burger.. That and the almost total dearth of prospects the last 2-3 years to look forward to. -

For whatever reason...the White Sox didnt/don't perceive him as a premium prospect and would rather trade him than spend any more money in FA. We shall see who turns out to be right. As you noted...could have looked at a number of possibilities after Nastrini and gotten five different favorites like Eder and Bush or even Martin on rehab. -
Don't think replacing Mena in depth chart is much of a consideration at this point. But probably will be part of a mid season Cease deal...

Brewers with a Top 5 farm, and will use the money created trading Burnes and eventually Adames opens up 3b for youngsters and Ortiz slots in at SS... Tyler Black and Brian Anderson figure into that 3B mix. Anderson can play outfield as well, but need more pop there, period...we all know by now Ortiz doesn't have the pop for a corner. Adames has a lot of trade value because Amed Rosario the best FA and numerous teams have hesitated adding him or Tim Anderson.

Weird to see the Royals and Tigers getting so much praise…but especially KC. 9. Detroit Tigers: B- It might have been somewhat overshadowed by Kansas City's unlikely spending spree, but Detroit also made a bevy of nice moves to strengthen a roster that quietly won a respectable 78 games last year and appears to be in realistic position to make a surprise playoff push. I'm much more bullish on the Kenta Maeda signing than the Jack Flaherty one, but both should help fortify an otherwise young rotation, while the trade for Mark Canha still stands out as one of my favorite smaller deals of the entire winter. Extending top prospect Colt Keith was a great note for the Tigers to seemingly end the offseason on. I kinda wish they did even more, to be honest. On the whole, though, solid work all around. 8. Kansas City Royals: B No team has handed out more MLB deals to free agents this offseason than the Royals' seven, a fairly shocking fact for a team coming off a 106-loss campaign. Granted, I'm a lot more encouraged by the additions of Seth Lugo and Michael Wacha than I am of Adam Frazier, Garrett Hampson and Will Smith, but hey, a big-league signing is a big-league signing! Mired in the depths of a rebuild, Kansas City finally decided to put some real money toward a pitching staff that has struggled immensely in recent seasons. With two franchise pillars to build around in Bobby Witt Jr. and Cole Ragans, there is still a ton of work to be done to build this roster back into a legitimate playoff threat. Nevertheless, the moves that were made in an effort to return to competence, if not contention, are worthy of a strong grade.

White Sox Last year: 25th, $137 million Top 100 prospects: 3 The White Sox turned the page on one incarnation of their major league team by trading Lucas Giolito, Reynaldo Lopez, Lance Lynn, Joe Kelly and Jake Burger. Dylan Cease and Yoan Moncada remain as the last two core players whose contracts end in the next two seasons, so Chicago is building back up with a farm system on the upswing. Colson Montgomery could be in Chicago by the second half of 2024 and followed the next season by a number of potential everyday players and rotation candidates. Lefty Noah Schultz is the other prospect with a real shot to be a core player -- with some Chris Sale vibes about him -- but he has only thrown 27 pro innings. The farm system still needs more depth and quality to project another contending team coming soon, but that should continue as new general manager Chris Getz appears to be in young player addition mode. -
23. Chicago White Sox: C With a blockbuster trade of Dylan Cease still looming over this organization — and not knowing whether such a deal will come before Opening Day or late July — it's a bit difficult to judge Chicago's offseason as it continues its rebuild. I dig the Erick Fedde and Martin Maldonado signings, but analyzing the moves GM Chris Getz has made thus far as the White Sox enter a year with little to no expectations of competing is relatively frivolous as long as Cease remains on the roster. Nailing the Cease trade will be the most important thing Getz will do in the coming months, and the return will go a long way toward confirming or invalidating his decision to hang onto the prized pitcher through much of the winter. We'll go C for Cease but honestly, consider this grade incomplete. https://www.foxsports.com/stories/mlb/mlb-offseason-grades-dodgers-braves-yankees-earn-highest-marks
