  1. You know this how, exactly??? Then again, I remember Bauer was going to be imprisoned for a decade for crushing someone’s skull…and was compared to everyone from Andrew Tate to the Fifty Shades of Grey protagonist.
  2. https://www.mlb.com/news/every-team-s-largest-contracts Now ahead of only the A’s and Pirates…passed up by KC for 27th with the Salvador Perez extension. One of those two teams is deliberately tanking in order to get a new stadium and/or relocation. Even the miserly Reds are ahead of the Sox due to the long-term Joey Votto extension. Pirates FA contract: Francisco Liriano, LHP (3/$39M, 2015) Extension: Ke'Bryan Hayes, 3B (8/$70M, 2022) Athletics FA contract: Billy Butler, 1B/DH (3/$30M, 2015) Extension: Eric Chavez, 3B (6/$66M, 2004) TB not surprising on the FA front, but the one that really stuck out was this one… Astros FA contract: Carlos Lee, 1B/LF (6/$100M, 2007)
  3. https://soxmachine.com/2023/02/white-sox-want-you-to-know-how-much-they-like-romy-gonzalez/ Working against González: Just about everything else in his pro career. González struck out 112 times in 93 games during his otherwise charmed season, and that flaw was exploited in his cups of coffee. He’s struck out 39 times against just two walks over 109 MLB plate appearances, including a worrisome whiff rate against fastballs, as Josh and I hashed out in a podcast episode about the second base situation back in December. Throw in everything that came before his breakout — the 18th-round selection, the .693 OPS at Kannapolis as a 22-year-old, being left out of alternate training site plans — and it’s hard to understand how Romy became their homie. At best, I can make an easy argument to not dismiss González. Injury and illness prevented him from attempting to build on his breakout, yet his 2022 season could’ve been even worse. He climbed out of his minor-league rut after a midseason tonsillectomy, and a team with contender-level depth probably would’ve allowed González to finish the year on a higher note in Triple-A, rather than calling him up for MLB plate appearances that became less and less competitive. Either way, credit to González for salvaging what could’ve easily been a total loss, and to the point where he apparently has the inside track to second base.
  4. Well, in the same way as Avi Garcia or Rob Mackowiak can/could also play CF...
  5. Reddit crowd much tougher on Clevinger/Hahn than SoxTalk, lol. Lots of "last straw" comments.
  6. https://www.yahoo.com/sports/no-mistake-eric-bieniemy-going-002828648.html
  7. Well, essentially Benintendi is replacing AJ Pollock/Eloy to be more accurate.
  8. https://www.instagram.com/thepadsquad/?hl=en That said, I know you’re not a fan of Bauer, Puig or Tatis, and they’re all smack dab in the middle of all these “where there’s smoke, there’s fire” stories…right along with Clevinger. All Hahn had to do was put in a call to Terry Francona.
  9. And actual broadcast news, albeit not the full schedule of games to be broadcast on TV or radio.
  10. https://www.gaslampball.com/2023/1/24/23569766/mlb-investigating-former-padres-sp-mike-clevinger-after-domestic-violence-allegations#comments Would suggest reading the 17 comments at the bottom here. Not illegal for a guy his age in MLB to be hooking up with 18-19 year old girls in the so-called Pad Squad, but not a good look for him along with all his family and relationship issues at play as well here. He goes by the nickname Sunshine, btw, like QB Ronnie Bass in Remember the Titans.
  11. He was believed to be closer to a $14-16 million guy at least. Look what the Guardians/Indians got back in return for just his limited control ARB years.
  12. If he's the 2022 version. 2019-2021, not so much. See AJ Pollock's 3.0 fWAR from 2021. Illusory.
  13. Challenging the age-old concept that all publicity somehow constitutes good publicity...
  14. Profar, but he almost exclusively played LF last year. Jose "Popeye" Rodriguez or Bryan Ramos...although more a 3B/1B type and at least another year away at any rate. SECOND BASEMEN Rougned Odor (29, 1.8) Jonathan Villar (32, 1.2)
  15. Or the organizational culture/clubhouse schisms. But having a new manager should potentially help there. Lynn and Kopech are always going to be question marks at this point...unless proven otherwise. And the Sox have gone for quite some time (Kopech) without losing another starter to TJ surgery.
  16. https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/35681036/padres-manny-machado-says-plans-opt-2023 Back with the Sox just in time to replace Moncada? Now that contract is really going to be the high risk one as he hits his thirties and outs on some more weight.
  17. Seattle yes. Sox pitching/injuries and whole team slumped second half. Rays win that 2008 series 4/5 times. Injured Quentin and on the road. Had the sense going in they were cooked and really victory was the Black Out Game due to Hahn's son calling coin flip to prevent game going to the Metrodome.
  18. https://sports.yahoo.com/carlos-rodon-did-money-yankees-215547875.html Heartwarming Rodon Illinois-related story...
  19. Wouldn’t that essentially reset cap cost-basis and then only tax appreciation of the value of shares/investment from the day of JR’s passing? Or it can’t possibly be that simple…?
  20. Or because of his original Red Sox contract and Hahn extension specials. He's got to have two consecutive 2019 seasons to get to $175 million-ish....and he could ride those coattails of being the former #1 prospect in the game. Chaos in the Central divisions Then there are the divisions stuck in the middle. The AL and NL Central are basically toss-ups by PECOTA’s estimation. The defending champion Cleveland Guardians and the Minnesota Twins (once again featuring Carlos Correa) are projected within one win of each other, with 49% division odds to 47.1%. In the NL, most prognosticators (and projection systems) view the St. Louis Cardinals as the favorites. But PECOTA has the Milwaukee Brewers very much in the thick of the race and in fact a slightly better bet to win the division. In particular, the system foresees big things ahead for scrap-heap pickup Jesse Winker and young pitcher Aaron Ashby. The Cardinals — who are used to topping expectations — won’t be cowed by this. But their pitching staff has some serious health- and age-inflected questions. https://sports.yahoo.com/9-intriguing-takeaways-from-2023-mlb-projections-are-we-underestimating-the-dodgers-and-yankees-003724974.html Can we finally trade for Corbin Burnes after that particularly contentious arbitration hearing?
  21. It's helpful if you play fantasy sports, like I would guess 25% of the board seemingly does.
  22. Or the epicenter of an unsettled environment with all the issues hanging over Clevinger, TA, Giolito (trade? union rep), Moncada and Grandal's Sox futures, etc.
