Cody Winiarski has really finished the season strong. Does he have the stuff to be a back-end bullpen guy? He's at the age (24) where they'll likely give him a shot this time next year if he continues to progress. Would love to see any up-to-date scouting info or opinions anyone has on CW, and also Kevin Vance, who had been rolling along nicely until the last couple of weeks of the season. I'll see what I can find as well.

Awesome BB episode. Let's speculate about the ricin. Thought it somewhat odd that Jesse would still be keeping up "appearances", hiding the bong on Walt's visit. His buddies, in the Star Trek scene, made the bong(s) a prominent prop. Certainly seems plausible that Jesse is on the verge of cooperating with the authorities, if not suicide. Could the ricin find it's way into some bongwater? Just throwing it out there.

One game. BoSox will be tired tomorrow from all the hitting tonight. Maybe give Hector (the Invisible Man) Santiago a few innings?

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jul 18, 2012 -> 06:08 PM) I thought you didn't want Viciedo platooning. Marty is to DV, as Cowley is to Ozzie - completely incapable of discussing ANYthing else. Keep derailing threads, Marty.

I really cannot stand Cody Ross - maybe because he reminds me of Swisher.

Ellsbury and Crawford are barely making any outs this series.

Eerily consistent. He's fine as a 5th starter. And then we have Cooper. Wouldn't we be happy to get those numbers out of Floyd or Humber or Quintana or Axelrod for the remainder of the season? Or even Danks? And he's not going to cost an arm and a leg. Guthrie isn't an upgrade over any of these. Maybe in Balt, where he had zero pressure to win, but not in a pennant race.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 18, 2012 -> 12:19 PM) Here's an idea. Why don't we trade for someone who WON'T cost us Viciedo but will still give us a huge boost, like Liriano or Guthrie? Absolutely NO to Guithrie. The Coors Field excuse only goes so far. He's been awful - NOT an upgrade, at all.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jul 17, 2012 -> 11:30 PM) ' Viciedo will not be the difference between being competitive and not. As far as wedging him into arguments goes, I guess you're talking about Pierre. I find it odd that some posters are putting "developing" Viciedo in the next two months by playing him against RH'ers instead ahead of improving the lineup by platooning him thus having a better chance to you know ... win games. This thread has devolved into an inordinate amount of talk about a guy that there's almost no chance in hell we're going to trade in the next couple of weeks. I'm pretty sure that KW has very high hopes for DV and trading him isn't even close to what he's thinking. I could be wrong, of course, but please, let's expand the thinking regarding other possibilities. This horse is glue and Alpo. Thanks.

QUOTE (Felix @ Jul 17, 2012 -> 06:17 PM) He was everyone's favorite character on that show. Felicia was pretty cool, too.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jul 17, 2012 -> 09:17 PM) I think a month of baseball may be a little too short to peg him as a streaky hitter.... I goofed. I read it as Wilkins, not Hawkins. Never mind. Gotta lay off the crack.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 17, 2012 -> 08:55 PM) I don't know how a lot of Sox fans on this board can watch that Trib interview and not love the guy. You can tell Ozzie is f***ing hilarious and he's classy, too. He said he respects Dunn as much as anybody in baseball for what he's done this year. He said something like, 'He didn't play for me last year, but aside from Thome and PK I respect him as much as anybody." Ozzie said he was classy with the media and fans all last year. What more do you want from ozzie? He was captain of the ship when we won a WS. WHo gives a f*** if he "quit" on the team with a week left or whatever. The owner and GM wanted him out. Oz made it easy on them. KW won that battle. What is so difficult to see about that? You guys that despise Ozzie so much ... he had drinks with AJ over all star break. You mean to tell me if you walked into that same bar you wouldn't go up to Ozzie and shake his hand and say, "Thanks for 2005, Ozzie!" I would. Your post has some merit Greg, but how often do we see the gracious Ozz? Almost never. He's taking the high road this week, which is really the only one available. With his team struggling, he doesn't have the ammo to be the pr**k he'd rather be.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 17, 2012 -> 08:42 PM) Listen to this interview, please. Mr. Gracious, Ozzie Guillen http://www.chicagotribune.com/videogallery...turn-to-Chicago I like the classy Guillen! Too bad it's so fleeting.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 17, 2012 -> 08:39 PM) By Mark Gonzales, Chicago Tribune reporter 8:10 p.m. CDT, July 17, 2012 BOSTON — The White Sox actually could be nearly full strength as soon as Monday night when they return home to open a three-game series against the Twins. Reliever Jesse Crain, who hasn't pitched since June 23 because of a right shoulder strain, could be activated without a minor league rehabilitation assignment. Crain, 31, estimated he was at about 90 to 95 percent while pitching off a mound with batters standing in the box. "I want to get a little sharper with my slider," Crain said. "But with the curveball, fastball, changeup, I felt good." The Sox, with six rookie relievers, would welcome Crain's experience. Gavin Floyd, who was placed on the disabled list Tuesday retroactive to July 8, believes he could be ready to return Monday night to start the series opener. The Sox took the precautionary measure of placing Floyd on the DL and promoted rookie left-hander Pedro Hernandez to start Wednesday night. Hernandez, 23, who will make his major league debut, is 7-2 with a 2.90 ERA at Triple-A Charlotte and Double-A Birmingham. Hernandez was acquired from the Padres last winter with pitcher Simon Castro for slugger Carlos Quentin. For his part, Floyd sounded optimistic he would miss only one start and plans to throw a bullpen session Friday to test his right elbow. "These days off are going to be pretty important for calming things down," said Floyd, who hasn't pitched since July 7. "I haven't picked up a ball in a couple of days. I don't know how it feels throwing a ball, but I've been (receiving) treatment and just trying to give it some time to cool down." Well that's AG.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 17, 2012 -> 08:23 PM) Erstad? Brian Anderson? Kotsay? Pierre? I probably should have specified non-Sox.

Anybody we want from the Mets? They're cratering, and should be selling soon.

Andrew McCutchen is carrying the Bucs like few teams have ever been carried. Best player in the game, right now? Trout, already? Votto? Cano? Healthy Kemp? Who 's your guy? I'll take Cutch.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 17, 2012 -> 08:14 PM) Interesting use of Punto there Nice win. SP looking less shaky than the pen. In the history of Soxtalk has there been a crappy player that engendered more discussion than Punto? He's a metaphor for slappiness, undeserved lucky wins, and so much more.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 17, 2012 -> 07:23 PM) Carlos Lee still loves Wrigley No doubt. Also has to be a great relief for him to get out of such a down org. Marlins deserve credit for making such an upgrade for little cost. Second only to the Youk acq. among those that have happened so far.

QUOTE (northside sawx @ Jul 17, 2012 -> 07:05 PM) Hawkins now a HR away from the cycle, with atleast another AB. Blair Walters with a very nice outing for WS. What is his prospect status/book on him? Obviously he's had a rough start to high A, but that could be expected with the jump in levels, no? He's been solid at every level before this, and the K numbers aren't bad. Mitchell also continues his slide, big goose egg and the K trifecta... Should we end up trading him this month wed be selling and his lowest value arguably... In a system full of streaky hitters, he just might be the streakiest.

Great play, unfortunately.

QUOTE (Felix @ Jul 17, 2012 -> 04:39 PM) Ding ding ding Also nominated: Omar. If you have to ask what show/character/season, then I'm sorry. He was my favorite character on that show.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jul 17, 2012 -> 05:26 PM) Bobby Bacala and Adrianna. Especially this one, where Silvio's dragging her by the hair. Right before this, while they're driving into the woods, Silvio says "they're doing tests" on Christopher in the hospital - thought that was hilarious, considering it was supposedly a suicide attempt.
