QUOTE(He_Gawn @ Aug 12, 2006 -> 12:36 PM) Where do you guys put Clayton Richard at if at all? He was considered, but missed out. He'd probably be in the 21-25 range if we went that far. He's 22 in low A ball with mediocre results, I'm not thrilled.

It's always fun to root for the Marlins because the way they run their org. is fun and cool. That said, it's a longshot. They don't have the consistency to pull it off this year. If the NL still sucks next year they should be one of the favorites for the wild card.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Aug 12, 2006 -> 12:51 AM) Chirino still on fire. Gonna warrant a callup to WS soon. There's about 25 games left in the schedule. Soon better be now if you want the callup to matter. That said there always seems to be a bunch of last week promotions for whatever reason.

All good points, most of which I agree with. Basically the only differences are Lopez, Collaro, and the Hernandez's. I can live with that. Don't forget that Collaro hit 29 HR and 100 RBI last year. He never got enough credit for that. I stated my case on the rest of them.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Aug 11, 2006 -> 03:40 PM) So when are we finally going to be able to see this list? The articles will be up within the week. We're almost done. They have to be out before next Friday because I go back to college then and I won't be able to post them after that. QUOTE(whitesox61382 @ Aug 11, 2006 -> 07:26 PM) That is a good list. It is hard to find 20 deserving prospects in such a thin system. I am not sure if I would include Lucy on that list. A 24 year old "prospect" putting up mediocre numbers(.262/7/31 .726 OPS 14 errors) in high A ball shouldn't be on a top 20 list, especially when he has never put up good numbers at any level. I think there are some guys that you are forgeting that should definately be on that list as well. Pedro Lopez(SS) is putting together a nice season since being demoted to AA(.322/4/26 .822 OPS). He is still only 22 years old and might make a decent utility infielder in the future. Hernandez(P) is another guy that certainly belongs on the list. He is a reliever so he doesn't get much attention, but he has dominated since day 1 of pro ball. He is putting up another solid year in high A ball(54 IP 44 H 26 BB 68 SO 2.17 ERA) and at 22 is right where he should be on the progression track. You also seem to ignore highly thought of prospects that have struggled this season. Liotta(P), Rodriguez(P), Valido(SS), Hernandez©, and Gomes(OF) should also get some consideration despite their struggles this season. Finally, I would put Carter(3B) on that list as well despite the fact that it is hard to project guys in rookie ball(especially after struggling in A ball earlier). This just goes to show how weak the Sox system truely is. Good luck trying to rank these guys. This is the problem we had. We had a hard time picking the list. Considering the difficulty and controversy on the list this time around we decided to defend ourselves in the written descriptions. Hopefully it explains a bit of why we put certain guys in certain spots. I'll tell you we had McCulloch at 4 and in previous years we never would have dreamed of putting a recent draft pick in the top 5. Broadway got 5 in the preseason list, but that was after success with Winston-Salem and the system was already pretty thin with the offseason trades. Lucy didn't make our list due to the same reasons you said. He was considered but quickly shot down. I personally wanted Lopez considering defensive skills, age, and production at AA. We disagreed, as with most players, and he was a few off the list. If we all liked a prospect of ours he was in the top 5, but as has been mentioned there aren't more than 5 guys we all liked. Hernandez is pushing it as relievers better absolutely dominate in the lower levels in order to get consideration. Oneli Perez was mentioned in the same vein, but age went against him. Liotta was firmly on the list, again some of us wanted him higher than he ended up (mostly me). Ryan Rodriguez has never been on our prospect lists so he wasn't going to be put on a list after a bad half year. Valido was a tough one. Personally, I've never liked him, but don't know where he sits at health wise, etc. What's going on with him this year? The question marks really dropped him off the list. Hernandez and Gomes were a case of us getting fed up with talents getting highly rated and not performing. Hernandez hasn't hit past rookie ball and maybe should have made the list, but we were down on the Phil Rogers hype machine (Salvador Sanchez lol). Gomes has had a bad year, there's no reason he should be on the list with 0 professional production, at least Hernandez hit rookie ball and is a catcher. Finally, Carter made the list pretty highly. It's almost contradictory to have Carter in the middle of the list and have Hernandez not on the list. Both succeeded at rookie ball and neither has proven himself at Kanny. The difference is Carter is a power hitter and hasn't failed in the full season at Kanny like Hernandez is doing this year. Power potential plays well on our lists as we even gave Collaro a spot towards the bottom. Hopefully that answers your questions lol, that ended up being longer than I intended. Nothing like watching Contreras pitching a gem to make time fly.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 11, 2006 -> 02:44 PM) Balta; I believe that Sweeney has actually spent a majority of this year playing LF/CF, although I could be wrong. He's played mostly RF and CF with what looks like 12-15 games in LF. I'm judging this based on his ABs by position in his splits so it's not an exact science.

QUOTE(daa84 @ Aug 11, 2006 -> 12:13 PM) i realize he good defensively and handles the pitchers, but i want no part of a guy with a .312 OBP and a .375 SLG in the bandbox at charlotte on the big league team... He's doing a little better on the road. That makes me think he is a slap hitter, which makes sense considering he has virtually no power. He's had an inconsistent year. Other than April and July he's had decent numbers. One thing to worry about is that his walk rate has fallen way off since May.

Trade with SF (2002 firesale) Lofton for Felix Diaz

Adkins wasn't that bad. The odds of a first rounder being better than that are actually pretty bad. -
Cunningham had 2 walks and a HR today. He's really hitting well of late.

Anybody else see the clip at the end where they are all getting dressed and this one woman is still naked? She's got her hands over her mouth with that 'oh my god' look. It looked like she couldn't find her clothes lol.

Egbert is rolling, he'll easily be a top 10 prospect for the Sox if he puts up similar numbers in AA. Salvador Sanchez with a HR, I totally forgot about him. There's a ton of 'talented' bats on that team that have disappointed (Sanchez, Gomes, Orlando, Hernandez, Allen). You could almost throw in Carter to that mix, but he's at least a year younger than those guys. The Sox seem to the young pros play in rookie ball until they are 20 and then force them to stay in Kanny. If even 2 of the 5 guys I mentioned can turn it around it will be huge for this system as they have no depth as we have pointed out numerous times on this board.

I was on board with the Thome move but it's getting to the point where if it's close between the two (as it's getting closer) I would rather have Frank for the simple reason that he's the legacy with the team. It may not make the team better, but it's Frank. When you throw in Rowand to the equation it's pretty debatable.

Is this the time where Jason and I say I told you so?

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 6, 2006 -> 01:02 AM) I would agree with all that except Young. The only comparable guy I can think of was Reed since he was an OF, but it was warned all along that he had a low celing (freaking Mark Kotsay comparisions), whereas Young could be an all around very good player. Reed came to mind when comparing Young because both were top flight OF prospects. Young sure looks like the goods this year though (.280, 26 doubles, 20 HR, 48 BB in 353 ABs). Those are quality numbers, basically what you would expect out of him. Granted the PCL inflates his power numbers (and probably all offensive numbers from what I hear), but I'd take that. Still, he does strike out a lot, who knows how that will translate in the bigs.

QUOTE(whitesoxin @ Aug 6, 2006 -> 01:07 AM) On a side note, does anybody believe me now that Vazquez is going to be great in the stretch run? Pitchers are streaky. Hopefully he's going to go on a hot streak, it wouldn't shock me. It would shock me more if he continued to get beat around every single start. He has the stuff to shut any team down if he can get it going. I'm not going to bank on him making a run and turning it around like Garland, but I will take mediocrity (and expect it).

QUOTE(ViperPilot @ Aug 6, 2006 -> 12:48 AM) Pudge please go do some more steroids. Are the Tigers still claiming to be a real team? No real team wins from behind at will. The question is how many Tiger fans had to sell their souls for this season to happen? This was your original post I commented on....I'm not picking a fight....but I WILL call you out when you're whining like some guy just kicked sand in your face and stole your girlfriend.......go take more steroids?!....that's a 4th grade comeback........ No, you're right prospects are exactly that and there aren't any gurantees......but I'll bet you'll be hearing a lot of Miller (this Sept as a matter of fact) and Maybin in the near future....... Ok fine, go to another team's fan site to keep us in line from b****ing about your team. That makes a lot of sense.

Good article. I wonder where the logic came into play that the entire country needed to blacked out from at least one team. They should start blacking out home games when the team doesn't sell out, that's worked real well for the Blackhawks lol.

QUOTE(ViperPilot @ Aug 6, 2006 -> 12:23 AM) I didn't take your original post as an insult. I took it as you whining because you're not making up any ground even though you've have a great stretch over the last week or so (go ask Minn how that feels, you can share their pain) Don't give me this crap about how we've come back in late innings this year...you've done the same damn thing countless times as well with your big bats.......better than the best case scenario?! What the hell does that mean? They have been insanely consistent this entire year. 36-18 over the first 1/3 of the season and 36-18 over the 2/3 of the season. They have a great mix of young players and veterans......when one guy starts to slump, another guy picks him up.....that's a sign of a GREAT team, not a lucky one as you seem to imply.......yeah, our rookies have been great....and we've got guys like Miller, Sanchez and Maybin coming up in then near future......you think this is a one year and done fluke?! Enjoy your fantasy...... Take it however you like. Stop picking a fight just because you are in first place. I never said the Tigers sucked. I just said the rookies are the difference between where everyone expected this team was going to be (80-85 wins) to where they are. I never said the Tigers are lucky. You're kidding yourself if you expect everyone of your prospects to do the same though. Prospects are prospects, not always future stars.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 6, 2006 -> 12:19 AM) Nice list there, it's amazing the worst we've given up so far is Majewski, who is basically a white Luis Vizcaino. However I fear what guys like Young, Haigwood, Lumsden, and Gonzalez will turn into. We've traded similar talent before. Haigwood is having a rough year, starting to look like best case scenario is 5th starter/long reliever. Gonzalez and Lumsden still have a ways to go before we really need to worry about them. Young is looking very solid, however, but none of these guys are any different talent wise from what we've traded before.
