QUOTE(He_Gawn @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 08:09 PM) Clayton Richard injured or something? It's possible with the large workload from a college season they want to give him a break. He's proven he can handle rookie ball hitters. The Sox probably don't want to pitch him too much. Right now the Sox have 3 teams in first place. The Barons at 16-9 have a 2 game lead. The Warthogs at 14-13 lead by a mere 1/2 game. Finally, Kanny is looking for their first playoff appearance...they lead their 8 team division by 3.5 games with a 17-10 record.

QUOTE(Cerbaho-WG @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 07:08 PM) A's did the same thing with Street last year and he should have been in the majors. We'll see Hansen in September barring major suckage. Yeah, I guess my question is why wouldn't they start him in AA or AAA if the concensus is that he's ready?

QUOTE(daa84 @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 07:06 PM) back to the AJ burnett thing......... spin him off for wagner or no? if not who would we getting to replace damaso? If it takes Burnett to get Wagner, then sure.

QUOTE(knightni @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 07:05 PM) Your quoting of it wasn't in your post. Yes. It was.

QUOTE(knightni @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 07:03 PM) Poultry analogy? "Don't count your chickens until their hatched?" "A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush?" "Why did the chicken cross the road?" Did you read the post I was quoting? He was talking about chicken being half done not being as good as when it's done. He said that was Gio.
-
QUOTE(forrestg @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 06:53 PM) If Gio was ready or at least close to ready he would have been moved up to double a or triple a. You ever tasted chicken when it is half done? It's great if it is done right but that half done stuff just don't get it. Give him time he might be our 5th started next year. I could use the same poultry analogy with Brandon. Give him more of a chance.

Why would they start him in A ball if they hope to use him down the stretch?

QUOTE(Cerbaho-WG @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 06:55 PM) I get paid through players cell phone numbers I guess. Oh Heads, he's becoming a stalker in front of our very eyes.

QUOTE(daa84 @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 06:47 PM) i have 0 idea about how much more often gio would pound the strikezone than mccarthy, and quite frankly i dont think many on here do either Good post, but that is the thing that bothered me most about what they were saying. If you're not pounding the strike zone you're going to walk guys right? Well Brandon walked a lot less guys than Gio. I don't need to see either guy in person to figure that out.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 06:42 PM) Since we dont have any room for him, its a better investment to trade him because his value is higher than our other guys. Gio is a much more heralded prospect, was chosen higher, has better "stuff" than BMAC and has a better upside being left handed and with his pitches. BMAC was a good pitcher in the lower minors, and was decent in ST, but has been exposed in the majors and is not going to be ready yet. With the time we will wait through out existing rotation, BMAC wont get the chance he deseves. By the time we need to bring a guy up, Gio, or Ray may be ready. I understand everyone's attachment to BMAC, but look at the facts and whats better for the organization as a whole. I agree that BMac is a great chip for trade. We're trying to win this year and do whatever it takes to do so. Gio more heralded prospect? Umm ok. Maybe in high school, but not now.

QUOTE(Soxpranos @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 06:37 PM) Gio reminds me of a Left handed Pedro Martinez.. No one is giving him a fair shot due to his size.. I recall Rauch was one of the top prospects in MLB , Why cause of his size. In reality he had medicore to below average stuff. McCarthy has size, and Gio doesnt, again people tend to go with the bigger athlete that they tend to think is better, which in mnay cases they are dead wrong. Pedro just a great example, another is a guy that goes by Maddux. Scouts rate velocity way too highly imo. Therefore taller guys will be rated higher because they can dial it up. I've often thought of a Pedro comparison, but his stuff isn't as good in potential. He needs to improve his fastball, but he's definitely a top tier pitching prospect.

QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 06:32 PM) Which is the point. We already know what Burnett is. Plus he still has room for improvement. I would trade Gio right away too, but BMac is in demand so I say out with his ass. I'm trying to win a WS and Burnett betters my chances of that happening. I agree mostly. My argument is that people think Brandon won't make it. As Jugg said Burnett isn't getting any better and BMac+Marte would be overpaying. I'd rather have a closer (Wagner) and would pay the same price. If the trade happens I won't be upset, but if it were up to me I wouldn't go after a starting pitcher at all. I'd go after a closer.
-
Ok, that basically furthered my point. They each have 3 pitches with developing changes.

QUOTE(Soxpranos @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 06:25 PM) Im sure you knew Buerhle was going to be a stud as well. He only got passed up 1110 times. Some well known scouts even missed on him. I would not trade Gio , give me a guy that has 4 above average pitches and a fastball with movement than a guy who has 2 pitches , a good fastball with no movemnet anytime. Its ludicrous to say " I'd like to think I have a very thorough understanding of the Sox system." when 96 percent of minor leaguers dont even make it to the big leagues. If that was the case you can be making allot of cash scouting. It's a crapshoot yes, but you're being a fool to give up on Brandon this soon while annoiting Gio the next coming. You're contradicting your own argument here buddy. You're talking about 96% of minor leaguers not making it, meanwhile, you are saying Gio has what it takes. This is just insanity from an ignorant person.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 06:01 PM) Flat out....BMAC >>> GIO There is a reason when teams call the Sox they are asking for Bmac. I'm sick of all these people who think they have a clue how to evaluate talent and are ready to write off guys that are highly talented simply because they were rushed up to the majors and struggled. I'll trade Gio, I'd be really hard pressed to trade Brandon and I'd like to think I have a very thorough understanding of the Sox system. Everyone loves Gio for god knows whatever reason. Don't get me wrong, he's a solid prospect, but he can only hope to be the kind of prospect Brandon is. People see Gio's sweet curve in that draft video and great numbers in Kanny and they think he's the new hotness. Hello! Brandon was better in Winston-Salem than Gio was in Kanny. Brandon led all of the minor in strikeouts and had unreal control and people are saying Gio is the better stuff pitcher and attacks the zone more. Sorry, this was an off topic post but people need to lay the f*** off Brandon. Any minor league expert would tell you Brandon wasn't ready when he was called up. The Sox didn't have anything better after the 2004 debacle.

Way to change the color and keep everything else the same. I might actually use this.
-
It's cool. Better you ask now then assume he actually is catching and bring it up 2 weeks from now and no one would have any idea what you are talking about. We'd all think you're nuts.

QUOTE(SoxAce @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 02:27 PM) Damn.... de ja vu of the Olivo/Reed trade... Yeah, I cry a little inside everytime I watch a Jeremy Reed web gem on BBTN. They are calling him the best young CFer in the AL. Still, with Garcia resigned it's been a good deal for us. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 03:41 PM) After 2 scoreless inning AJ Burnett just hit a solo homer... A lot of good that's gonna do us :rolly ... until the Series that is.

Paul Konerko is hitting .327 in close and late (Close And Late - results in the 7th inning or later with the batting team either ahead by one run, tied or with the potential tying run at least on deck.) situations. OPS of .984 in the same situations. And you're telling me he sucks when it matters. :rolly

Yeah, his first name being Casey and all.

QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 09:22 PM) Chris Young seems like the odd man out for the future. We already have Anderson and Sweeney. You have to trade one of them because you at least still have Pods and Rowand. To be honest Sweeney might be the odd man out for the future unless he gets his ass in gear. But more importantly you can never see what the team will look like 2 years from now. Konerko is currently one of the more obvious important decisions of the future. If he resigns Anderson gets held back another year. If he leaves Anderson can possibly find a spot and a guy like Rogowski is more likely to crack the big league club. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 09:23 PM) I'd trade Anderson, Sweeney and Owens before I'd trade Chris Young. Right now yes. As Cheat said once before, with breakout guys like Young and BMac last year you can't trade them because you don't know what their value is. Brandon has shown me that he isn't ready yet but should be a 2 or 3 starter down the road. Young meanwhile could be a bustout do it all type hitter, or a guy with a fluke year that's going to settle into a mediocre major league career. You just don't know yet. It's why you don't see teams trading teenagers and guys in low A ball or lower. It's too early to accurately tell what they project to be.

Yeah, I'd start a 'Promote Ray Liotta to high-A ball fan club' but I hate those things.

QUOTE(SoxAce @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 05:21 PM) Micheal Moat looks like he's gonna be a good one. Doubtful. This is a repeat year of Kanny for him.
