How about the A's just don't make the playoffs at all? God they are freaking ridiculous.

QUOTE(Cerbaho-WG @ Aug 11, 2005 -> 02:31 PM) It's the Appy League, his BA isn't anything special. His first real test will come at Low-A. True. Considering that he came from JC and showed success in a wooden bat league I'm surprised they are playing it so slowly with him. He could be a nice addition for Kanny's OF down the stretch if the Sox decide to promote him.
-
QUOTE(Heads22 @ Aug 11, 2005 -> 12:21 PM) I'm looking for him to repeat Kanny next year, with some of his bat starting to show. Maybe, but he's had a decent on-base. He doesn't go from U Miami to not being able to hit low A ball in just a year. Maybe he's struggling with wood bats, but he did play well in Great Falls last year. He's a bit of an anomoly IMO.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Aug 11, 2005 -> 10:41 AM) He just raked at high school (or college can't remember), and he's carried on with those numbers in Bristol. Gotta the .403 OBP at the moment. JC wood league.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 11, 2005 -> 01:39 AM) According to BA he is the #1 prospect in the Braves organization and the #14 in all of baseball. They say he's the best hitter for average and the best athlete in the Braves org. I'm not denying his status as a prospect. The way hitting prospects seem to be judged is pure tools and production is a bonus. Like I said, Francoeur did enough to maintain his status as a top prospect since getting drafted in the 1st round. Top hitters tend to be rushed (see Sweeney) and then their production isn't as stellar as their prospect rating. Since Francoeur kept his production up after getting moved up levels from year to year he kept climbing prospect charts to where he is now. Jeff is a great strike zone hitter and ML pitchers are having trouble pitching him out of the zone because he's still hitting that. He has little plate patience, but, quite frankly, he doesn't need any right now. He'll be a good one but he needs to learn discipline. QUOTE(Dam8610 @ Aug 11, 2005 -> 01:40 AM) You're probably right. When I see big numbers like Young is putting up, I want to see what he can do at the next level. That's why he's intriguing to me, especially when you consider that he's putting these big numbers up in a pitcher's park. Any chance he moves up to AAA or even the bigs with the September call-ups? No. Birmingham is in 1st place and Charlotte is awful, he's staying in Bham. If it was the other way around it would be a remote possibility he would go to Charlotte. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 11, 2005 -> 01:48 AM) IMO, He'll most likely finish the AA year at B-Ham. He won't be seeing AAA and especially the bigs this year. He'll be invited to spring training again this year and then most likely start next season with B-ham again unless he's f***ing unreal in spring training then he could earn himself a spot in Charlotte but chances are he'll start off next season in B-ham. If he continues to produce like this next year in AA he could see a promotion to Charlotte somewhat early in the year. I know you're not alone on this, but I just think that sending Young back to AA would be ridiculous. He won't need to set the world on fire to get to AAA to start next year, that's for sure.

QUOTE(SnB @ Aug 10, 2005 -> 10:58 PM) but did you know that "life is an open road"? At least I like that song, but damn it's gonna be old by 50 days are up. I imagine it's already old for many of you,
-
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Aug 10, 2005 -> 11:22 PM) Francouer IIRC spent the year before this one at AAA, or some part of it. It's more likely we see Anderson up here before Young. Nope. He had some time at AA last year, but not AAA. He was a 1st round pick who put decent enough results level to level to maintain his status as a top prospect, nothing earthshattering.
-
He hit .304 in July with a .418 on-base, there's hope for him yet.

Great Falls won 5-4 in 11. Hernandez 3-5, but 3 steals in 4 attempts against him and a passed ball. Lemon's ERA: 3.00. Box Score Bristol won 10-1. Cunningham 3-3 with a double and 3 runs. Sanchez 1-5 with a double, RBI, SB, and 3 runs scored. Box Score

Rafael was placed on the disabled list on August 7th. He stands 3-4 with a 4.77 ERA on the year.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 10, 2005 -> 02:24 AM) -(EDIT) One more thing... Watch this catch by David Wright. Play of the year? Wright's dive into the stands was way better. Wright circled the ball incorrectly and compensated. The dive needed an extraordinary play for that ball to be caught, thus making it the better play.

Funny you guys mentioned this. I just went on a rant about this tonight. Sportscenter used to be the pure substance show on ESPN. Just highlights with comedic voice overs from the anchors. Now it's all opinionated crap and soap operas. BBTN, NFL Live, etc. should be the opinionated shows for that sport (sadly they still are, overkill). SC needs to be the substance, isolated from the rest of the stuff they show. The last thing I want is fact or fiction with some stupid former QB saying the same stuff I could.

QUOTE(beck72 @ Aug 10, 2005 -> 03:35 PM) Yes. I couldn't see the exclusion of Rogo as a deal breaker though. No, but they said noone but Griffey had to clear waivers from the offer. That wasn't true.
-
Wasn't Rogowski in the original deal? He's on the 40 man.

QUOTE(TheDybber @ Aug 10, 2005 -> 10:55 AM) Define s***hole? It had carpeting and air conditioning...unlike Niles West. I haven't been back since the early 90's, so I couldn't tell you if it's gotten worse. It was fun hitting tennis balls onto the Edens, though. Well I'm gonna take a wild guess and say they haven't upgraded the place in a while. Yeah those tennis courts are weird, heh.

QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Aug 10, 2005 -> 12:53 PM) No offense to you people from Illinois, but I can't stand to drive through that state, especially on Interstate 55. Agreed. At least Normal and Springfield are on the way. They're like landmarks among nothingness.

Heck, Chipper Jones rehabbed in low A. It's merely about getting at-bats in. As explained previously by someone else, teams will throw their affiliates a bone with a name player hoping he'll draw. That and if the affiliate is at home and/or nearby the ML team then they may go to such a team as opposed to AAA.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 03:47 PM) If you've ever driven out to Colorado on I-80, Nebraska just kinda feels like death. It just doesn't end either. I've heard that too. From the title of the thread I was afraid you were going to make fun of Missouri for a second there. You'd be the 2nd person in 2 days. What's there to hate about Missouri? WTF?! Stupid Cubs fan.... I have a friend going to Nebraska. Everyone asks him "Why Nebraska?" He's just going for their Professional Golf Management School. And no, I didn't make that up.

QUOTE(Cerbaho-WG @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 05:37 PM) Then take more classes. I tested out of 14 credits worth of one of my majors and I still took 16 or 17 credit hours my first semester. By doing this I'll be halfway done with all my classes and electives after this upcoming semester. This enables me to take 12-15 credit hours in Germany....which means more time for me in the beer halls. I could do that, but I'd rather ease in.

QUOTE(TheDybber @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 04:03 PM) PS> Niles North was the HS. Don't take this the wrong way, but was it a s***hole back in the 80s too?

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 03:17 PM) Collaro's OBP was .304 entering the day.... There's not many outfielders not named Timo Perez who can make that work on the Major League level. Oh I know he's a work in progress, but there is some substance there. He is slugging over .500 and has an OPS over .800. We'll see if he can keep the success up in a major pitchers' park while making the biggest jump in the minors.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 03:03 PM) We're gonna have to duke it out on October 15. f*** my parent's 28th anniversary. It's on. I'd trash talk but Missouri sucks. So hell if I care.
-
Daigle for the Class A Hall of Fame! Collaro went yard too, I really hope he can become the stud power hitter he is showing so far this year. Next year will be very interesting for him. Sabo got promoted from Bristol, interesting, that's quite a jump. He did do very well down there though.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 02:54 PM) It's only 13.5 credit hours. I've got a semester done already through AP classes and college credit classes here. They recommend 12-15 for the incoming freshman. Of course, Fridays my first class is 1 PM. Done at 3 b**** please. All my classes start at noon or later. I only have 50 minutes of school on Wednesday's and Friday's. We've been over this. My schedule is insanely easy.
