ATO: Wasserman and Brooks Promoted, Two Former Major Leaguers Signed 2005 3rd round pick moves up to Kannapolis, slated to start tonight Ricky Brooks, the Sox 3rd round pick in this year’s draft has been promoted to low A Kannapolis and is scheduled to pitch tonight for the first place I’s who host Hagerstown (Mets). Brooks was a draft eligible sophomore and was considered a somewhat difficult sign because of that. The East Carolina product signed early and pitched well for Rookie League affiliate Bristol. Brooks, 21, made 5 appearances, all starts, for the BriSox. In those 5 starts, he went 0-2 with a 2.89 ERA. In 18.2 IP he struck out an impressive 25 while allowing only 15 hits and 4 walks. more...

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 02:21 AM) Dan -- any chance you have the April/May/June/July stats that you've chronicled each month archived somewhere? I'd like to look at some numbers, I'm not too busy over the summer. I just want to get a grasp of who's really improving, and who's just treading water. I got the April Stats on my geocities page since Jason hasn't uploaded it onto the FS server yet. Here's all 3. April Stats May Stats June Stats

Charlotte lost a pitcher's duel in their day game today. 1-0 to Rochester (Twins). Ulacia threw 6 shutout innings. Box Score Montgomery @ Birmingham 7 Haeger starting. Winston-Salem @ Potomac 6:05 Rodriguez starting. Hagerstown @ Kannapolis 6:05 Ricky Brooks up with Kanny to start. Great Falls @ Billings 8:05 Bristol @ Johnson City 6

That's great freaking news! I don't want Burnett, but if he lands up Wagner I'm all for it.

Rafael got back in the 'Hogs rotation on the 27th. He pitched 3.1 innings allowing 3 runs (1 earned) while striking out 3, walking 1, and surrendering 6 hits. His ERA on the season stands at 4.54.
-
His legacy wouldn't be the same without that awful blown game against NU. All he had to do was take a knee instead he decided to run the ball. A fumble and a comeback follow.
-
That was damn funny.

Yeah, I never uploaded April because when I came out with them they were the only stats available. I'll get Jason to put it up soon.

QUOTE(Frank the Tank 35 @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 11:31 PM) Seriously? Would you be that disappointed in that? Huff is going to produce big in the second half as he always does. I'm not too hot on Baez, but he can't be worse than Viz. Burnett, from what everyone says about him, would be a big upgrade and a power pitcher in the playoffs. Overbay would be good, Schmidt would be good... but is this BAD? I wouldn't mind picking up Huff, but I don't think it's worth it. His defense at 3rd is brutal. He's another 1B/DH. With that said, Overbay is clearly better because he is hitting better and fits in better with what this offense needs. Baez would be a minimal improvement on the team and would have a minimal impact in the playoffs. Burnett would NOT be a big upgrade, it's that simple. I don't trust him to be a significant upgrade in the AL. He's pitching in a big pitchers' park at the moment and would shift to a big hitters' park. That ERA of his would jump up, not to mention a shaky health history.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 11:18 PM) Dan and I are going to kick that bandwagon over Nothing against Micah I'm just not as high on him as others. Preach on brotha! It's all about Josh Fields, who also had a big day today.
-
Wow, that would suck IMO. We'd be getting my 2nd choice in each position. I'd rather have Schmidt, Overbay, and Wagner before any of the 3 mentioned. In fact I don't want any of the 3 mentioned there. I'd rather keep what we have.

I guess what I'm saying is that BMac has had 2 good starts with the big league club. It's not like he's been bad every time out. He's not insurance for a 5th starter, but if you guys are fine with a 5th starter being brutal some of the rest of the way if El Duque gets hurt then who cares? The way I see it is that if BMac is still around at least we can give him innings for the future. Since the 5th starter won't matter the rest of the way according to some of you then why not give him the innings anyway? I don't see the Burnett deal as improving this team enough for the value we'd be giving up. If it's Contreras and Marte we're overpaying. If it's BMac and Marte then Contreras loses value by heading to the pen and Burnett isn't a significant enough upgrade. With all that said, what I mean is I don't want the Burnett deal, but Schmidt is a significant improvement over Contreras and I'd do the deal.

Charlotte won 7-2. Reyes, Toca 3 hits each. Brown 2-4 with a HR. Anderson 1-3 with 3 walks, RBI, and a run. Diaz 8+ stud innings. 8 IP, 1 R, 9 K, 5 hits. Box Score Birmingham won 6-0 behind 6 stud innings from Sean Tracey. 6 IP, 10 K, 3 BB, 3 hits. Sweeney 3-4, HR short of cycle. Fields a HR in his only at-bat, joined with 2 BBs and a HBP. 2 hits for Owens, Gonzalez. Pollok 2 shutout innings in relief. Ehren Wasserman, recently promoted and from Bham area, pitched the 9th. Box Score Winston-Salem wins 18-8. Hall 3-5, 3B, 2 HR, 4 RBI, 4 runs, BB. Hinton 2-4, 2B, RBI, 2 BB, 2 runs. Collaro 3-5, HR, 2 RBI, 2 runs, BB. Schnur 3-6, 2B, HR, 2 RBI, 3 runs. QUOTE(sircaffey @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 10:36 AM) Right now? I would disagree. Adkins has been at the major league level. He's pitched here, and pitched relatively well. Last season 62 IP and a 4.65 ERA. If we need a SP for 2-3 starts with El Duque on the shelf, I would have more confidence in Adkins than BMac, personally. Adkins has been absolutely awful this year at Charlotte. I wouldn't want him pitching in the Sox rotation this year. Adkins is 4-8 with a 5.68 ERA and 1.57 WHIP in AAA. That's just bad. Another option might be (dun dun dun) Arnie Munoz. He's been up and down this year for Charlotte and his ERA is under 4. Ok I was kidding, he's god awful. We have nothing after BMac.

QUOTE(rangercal @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 02:01 PM) maybe for the price we can get him at. Huff is a special player. Overbay is a good player. Big Difference. Wrong. Overbay has been at least as good as Huff in each of his 2 seasons as a starter. 04 Overbay- .301 16 HR 87 RBI .863 OPS 04 Huff- .297 29 HR 104 RBI .853 OPS 05 Overbay- .289 15 HR 51 RBI .892 OPS 05 Huff- .263 11 HR 54 RBI .731 OPS Especially with the year Huff is having now I don't want him.

What pitcher in the Sox system impressed you the most and why? What was your best memory of pitching for Providence Catholic in high school?

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 02:18 PM) Anybody but Oakland should be an option in the poll. It would win hands down. Yep. There are 2 teams I fear in the AL. #1 is the A's by far. #2 the Angels kinda have that west coast thing to. I have no fear for the Yanks or Sawx or anyone else that division can throw at us.

QUOTE(SoxAce @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 10:47 PM) Thank god they got a O. Perez cause Giles was their only ticket they didn't screw up for a hot commodity. That Jason Bay guy isn't doing too badly for himself. Zach Duke and Ian Snell may mark the turn around for that franchise. Oliver Perez is a talent and those two could add to make a stud top 3. Add Kip Wells (who I still like and is a decent starter) and Jason Bay and they have pieces to build around. They just have to make the right moves.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 11:33 PM) Wow, the fact that Panama made it to the finals makes this tournament lose ALL credibility to me... Yeah, it was a shock, but they aren't that bad. I saw them play Colombia in the semis and they just outclassed the solid Colombian team. Colombia was on the attack a lot, but Panama's counter attacks were just awesome. There were good teams there, but CONCACAF is a pretty weak region. The US is really becoming a solid soccer power, ranked 6th in the world in the latest FIFA rankings. That's just unreal. They have to win once in Mexico, easier said than done, but they haven't done it in ages and that would be a big step to becoming the top team of the region.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 11:39 PM) I'm now going to sleep a little disappointed because of Bruuuuuuuuuuce. If he hadn't said this, I really wouldn't have been hoping all day that he was right. That son of a b**** better be right and Burnett's on the Sox when I wake up in the morning. You're best off not getting your hopes up over rumors. Just wait for it to be true. You'll save yourself big time.

You guys are dipping way too far into the pure speculation area. Besides I think I'd cry if we traded both Gio and BMac at the deadline lol.
-
QUOTE(3E8 @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 08:06 PM) Yes but wasn't McCarthy pitching in Kanny at age 21 while Gio was pitching there at age 18? That should be considered. Brandon was 20 when at Kanny and Gio 19.
