  1. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2005 @ Jul 4, 2005 -> 08:00 PM) I don't think it's that. But you'd rather give up Sweeney over Anderson or Young. I know. Anyone would have been flamed for saying they'd trade Sweeney over Anderson or any other minor league OFer not long ago.
  2. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jul 4, 2005 -> 07:32 PM) I don't pay any attention until the make it out of the rookie leagues. That's when the stats actually start to mean something. I was gonna say something like that. It's worth watching for the high draft picks, but other than that don't get too excited. It's probably less than 50/50 that guys that do well in rookie ball even get to AA as full time players.
  3. Make sure you're paying attention to Daniel Cortes and not Martin Cortez. Cortez with a Z is 22 and just now beginning his pro career in Bristol. Cortes with an S is the draftee. Both players have ERAs well into double digits so you lose either way right now lol. Keep an eye on Richard Brooks, 3rd round pick. He just started for Bristol a few days ago and did well. We've heard mixed reports on how good the guy is so we'll have to find out by keeping track of him.
  4. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 4, 2005 -> 12:25 PM) Happy 4th of July and Happy Bday Fellas. Alex, your the man and Tony every post you make means a little more Kristin Kreuk on the board Hope you both have great birthdays. Well said Jason. My sentiments exactly. to the underage drunk that is Heads! to a fellow Kristin Kreuk fan on this board!
  5. Most likely he'll stay in Bristol. Maybe he'll head to Great Falls (though I don't know if there is much difference). He's not dominating where he has to be promoted. I think they're going to play him very similarly to Francisco Hernandez.
  6. Gio gave up 3 runs in the 1st inning in his first action since June 17.
  7. I really wanted to see him pitch. It's a shame it's not on national tv. The Sox will see plenty of him next year though. As for him being rushed, they said it's just for one start because of the doubleheader today. He has had 3 starts in AA going 15 innings without allowing a run. He might see some time in AAA this year if the Tigers continue to push him along quickly. He's going to stick with the Tigers either out of ST next year or mid season.
  8. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 4, 2005 -> 01:28 PM) I hope they want Sweeney. You know he's fallen off when people are saying that.
  9. QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Jul 4, 2005 -> 12:59 PM) I know I'm probably alone in this, but I've felt for a while now that Sean could be a dominate closer in the majors. He has a rubber arm and could "let it go" for an inning or two and show off his nice stuff without holding back. Yeah, high MPH plus rubber arm makes me think he's the kind of guy who could just rip 'em as a closer and come out of the pen often. As for the low strikeout numbers, from the one outing I saw of him in Spring Training one thing stuck out about him: he gets guys out. He wasn't dominating and then all of a sudden he has 2+ shutout innings without any trouble against big league hitters. Of course, he ended up getting hit hard 2nd time around in the order and I don't even know if he got 3 innings in. The only thing that has worried me about Tracey is the amount of walks he allows.
  10. It's called a backup plan. If your pro career busts you're going to need to something to fall back on. This is especially true in baseball because so few of the pros make it to the bigs. If you're not in the first couple rounds your signing bonus isn't going to be huge and none of the minor league salaries are worth anything.
  11. My favorite quote from the article about Sanchez:
  12. Some link you got there. Try this link
  13. Charlotte wins 5-4 in 13. Ross Gload went 5-7 with 2 doubles and an RBI. Think he's ready for the bigs? Fields with good relief. Baj save #12. Box Score Barons won 9-1. Young 3-5. 2 hits for Sweeney, Fields (HR #10), and Gray. Tracey went the distance giving up 1 run in 9. Box Score W-S won 3-2. Spidale 2-4. Wing started 4 IP, 2 R. 5 shutout innings from pen.Box Score
  14. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Jul 3, 2005 -> 03:29 PM) Yea, being second best in the world at what you do really sucks. :rolly Yeah, loads of talent wasted. He should be better than he is. He's inconsistent and plays dumb. He should be the player Sampras was with what he has.
  15. QUOTE(danman31 @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 02:02 PM) Let's face it. Federer will destroy Andy Roddick. Roddick has nothing but a big serve. He's such a headcase and can't match the skills of Federer. Now a good matchup? Federer vs. Sampras. Wow, I'm good. No, not really. Roddick just sucks.
  16. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jul 3, 2005 -> 11:51 AM) Just from past experiences of Yankees, Red Sox, Cubs going nuts in Free Agency I was thinking of going with a salary cap. How would that sound to everyone. I don't think it would make too much difference if we were able to come up with a better free agency method. Multiple teams can make bids to players in OOTP and there are at least 2 sessions of free agency. I was thinking we just let the players decide like they would in real life instead of just the guy going to the highest bidder.
  17. Does that mean they'll go with a 6 man rotation or bump someone to the bullpen?
  18. This means the Barons have 6 starters (Honel, Malone, Tracey, Phillips, Haeger, Haigwood) with Lubisich likely out for the year. Does this mean that Phillips or someone else is going up to Charlotte?
  19. Haha nice. I love seeing my work get put to good use.
  20. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jul 2, 2005 -> 03:57 PM) That's a sick line from Young... 17BB 19K 8HR. Incredible. Yeah, I was thrilled to see that with the power he hit for this month. BTW, I figured out why my cells look crappy as webpages. I have excel 97, which has a different feature from 2000. For you it's 'save as webpage' for me it's 'save as html'. So I'd have to edit the html on geocities to make it look better and I don't really feel like doing that when it takes you or anyone else with 2000 2 minutes to do as opposed to a lot more than that for me. Thanks again.
  21. Cheat prettied it up too.
  22. Somebody please split this Contreras stuff outta here. It's the whole thread and has no relevance to trades. It's interesting to see the Yanks dealt Quantrill. Surprised someone wanted to give something up for him knowing he'd go on waivers anyway.
  23. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Jul 1, 2005 -> 07:20 PM) Disagree, it's an RBI slot. Besides, his OBP is .328. Dye's is .323 If the 3 hole is an RBI slot you want Frank there over anyone else on the team. He's getting an RBI in a little more than every 4 at bats. Only Everett is close in that respect. Frank has an OPS of 1.001 right now. He's getting on base enough that the way he's hitting for power I can't complain with him at the 3. He's not hitting badly enough where he's hurting the team (hurting the team with an OPS over 1?!) and he gets the most out of working through his troubles this way.
  24. As some of you know I do the monthly reviews at futuresox and I use excel to get the monthly stats of the minor leaguers. Here's the June stats for the guys, but only for the roster they're currently on because milb.com pulls guys off the stat page once they're off the roster. I e-mailed Gene about prettying up the one I got since he's good with that. Hopefully he comes through. Anyway, here it is. June Stats
  25. QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Jul 2, 2005 -> 08:47 AM) Scouts that watch him play, see this and know this. I guarantee you that Sweeney's stock has much less to do with numbers at this point than what the eyes can see. I'm not saying his stock is low by any means. I'm just saying it's as low as it's been. He was called a god last ST for crying out loud. I should say that it doesn't sound like we are disagreeing on anything of significance. Same general feeling, slightly different view of how it will happen.
