Good to see Honel pitch well again. As for those who asked about Reynoso- he is 24 after pitching in Winston-Salem last year. He went back and forth from the rotation to the pen before settling in the rotation. His ERA was 3.95. Despite the good numbers he is not much of a prospect being 24 and yet to reach AA. However, somebody in the Sox org. must like him to be on the 40 man roster.

You hear that? It's the sound of someone's bubble popping. Southern loses. To be honest, it's hard to say Southern deserves a bid after that pathetic performance. They led by as much as 23 I think, led by 16 at half and blew it. They slept on SMS and f'd up. I don't mean to say SIU shouldn't make the tourney, but that is an embarrasing performance by the Salukis. -
QUOTE(chimpy2121 @ Mar 6, 2005 -> 04:26 PM) Cheap shot? Howabout taking a cheap shot at NIU during the football season with the loss to Toledo. Oh that's right, you are the crybaby NIU fan. No wonder there was so much hostility after a mostly innocent comment from me. Whatever, I'm enjoying Illinois' loss.

QUOTE(chimpy2121 @ Mar 6, 2005 -> 04:23 PM) Yep thats a hell of a lot of b****ing when the ref admitted it himself? O and by the way, sorry Northwestern sucks. You are 29-1 and you are taking cheap shots. I'm just saying you have to take a loss.

QUOTE(Brian @ Mar 6, 2005 -> 04:01 PM) SIU can blow someone out in the 1st half, than comeback for the 2nd half and let anyone back into the game. Only up 13 now. Bubble teams beware: SMS is within 2 in the final few minutes. Also, with Kansas losing their 4th in 6 games the CBS analysts still had them as a #1 seed. I just don't see how you can be right-minded and still say something like that on national tv. Granted the rest of the field isn't doing all that well but when the committee looks at that 6-4 (at best) final 10 games they won't be leaning Kansas' way for a number 1. -
QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Mar 6, 2005 -> 04:14 PM) Who b****ed? You are talking about the ref blowing calls, that would be classified as b****ing.

Thanks, I appreciate getting called retarded.

How about not crying about 1 call? Geez, you guys finally lose and you are b****ing about the refs. :headshake

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Mar 6, 2005 -> 02:31 PM) Well, thats true too. Any team on the bubble obviously has flaws. One team you got to look at is Georgia Tech who has as much talent in the country but for whatever reason has failed to flourish. Don't they have like pretty much there entire team from last year back? The team that went to the Final 4 IIRC. G Tech lost one starter, Lewis, and they made the finals. They struggled when Elder got hurt. Maryland and them have to be in. G Tech RPI: 44 decent enough to get them in SOS: 27 expected with ACC schedule along with Gonzaga and Kansas in non-conference Quality wins: Wake Forest, home game Bad losses: NC St. (twice), Va. Tech at home Last 10: 5-5 It's not a great resume unless you factor in the Elder injury, which makes them a lock imo. Maryland RPI: 38 SOS: 8 Memphis (neutral court), @ Wisconsin, George Washington (neutral court) Quality wins: Duke (twice) Bad losses: NC St (twice), Clemson (twice) Last 10: 4-6 including 1-4 in last 5 and 3 straight losses They need to win a game in the ACC tourney to avoid another bad loss and they should be in. They are a dangerous team and the committee loves those types. -

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Mar 6, 2005 -> 02:15 PM) In fact, any team that loses 4(?) in a row to Northwestern should be excluded next year as well. It was 3 in a row for the record. As for what Rex said about the Big Ten bubble teams, I agree and don't think any should get in. Also, Missouri is running Kansas off the court right now. Does anybody want the #1 seed? Kentucky loses a week ago, then Ok. St. loses last night and today Kansas looks like they are going to lose their 4th in 6 games. Kentucky is also down 4 to Florida, lol. I wonder if Duke could squeek in for the #1 if they beat UNC. It would be hard to believe they could give 3 #1 seeds to one conference, but it's hard to believe Kansas, Kentucky, and Ok. St. keep f'ing up. -
QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Mar 6, 2005 -> 01:41 PM) Even a none of the above would have taken some major votes too, I think that's what Dan was trying to say. Yeah, I thought it was unfair to have a poll where anyone who only likes one of those teams will vote that team. If you like neither you can't vote. A minute population of Soxtalk like both.

I'm going to go the opposite of everyone else's opinion and say that I wouldn't even trade Curry for the number one pick. NO MORE ROOKIES. This team needs to grow together. Skiles refuses to play Curry and I hate him for it. Curry can't get better if he is rotting on the bench every 4th quarter. Skiles is a terrible player development coach and I'm calling for his ass to get fired if he doesn't give Curry more playing time. At this point the Bulls need to do whatever possible to keep Curry. If they don't he will be another Artest or Brad Miller and completely blossom elsewhere.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Mar 6, 2005 -> 01:37 PM) I think Indiana's in, regardless. I don't think there is anyway Indiana should be in the tournament right now. They will have to make it to the finals of the BTT. Right now they have an ugly RPI of 69. 15-12 is not conference worthy either. Granted their SOS is pretty damn good at 16. They have 2 good wins: Michigan St. and Wisconsin, both at home. They lost @ Missouri which you could call a bad loss. They lost @ Northwestern, bad loss. They are 2-8 on the road this year. 6-4 in their last 10 isn't spectacular either. If they make the BTT final with a win over Illinois that might be enough. Minnesota would be a decent win as both teams are on the bubble and then beating Illinois would probably be needed as well. At that point, if they lose the BTT final they would be 17-13, 7-3 in their last 10, and 6-2 in their last 8. The nice finish with the big win would get them in. I don't see how Indiana gets in without beating Illinois though. The rest of their resume is ugly, a strong finish would have to be the capper. -

QUOTE(CubsSuck1 @ Mar 6, 2005 -> 01:18 PM) They are getting a great player in Bryan Mullins next year. Every game he is a quadruple double threat, and he's definetly making me a saluki fan. Also, with West Aurora and Bolingbrook eliminated, I see him leading Downers South downstate. Southern also nabbed Josh Tabb from Carbondale HS who is supposed to be an intelligent, athletic, stud guard. They are recruiting well enough that they should be able to maintain their stay atop the Missouri Valley Conference for quite a while. -

QUOTE(AssHatSoxFan @ Mar 6, 2005 -> 01:12 PM) i dont know what happened to dee brown and deron but they absolutely did not show up at the end of the game which hurt us What happened was OSU brought their A game on defense. It f***ed with the Illinois shooters. They aren't used to being guarded and all, lol. So they get some hands in their faces, they start missing, then they stop shooting. Once Dials got back on Augustine down the stretch the Illini had 0 offense to go to. Jason, OSU isn't eligible for the tourney, they are on probation. Otherwise they would probably be in with a couple wins in the BTT. They had lost 3 in a row before that game, which would have put them from being in to on the bubble imo. Also, I think Illinois didn't need to lose, but get tested. OSU would have given them the test if Illinois was able to pull this one off today. So I don't think the fact that they lost is beneficial, just the fact that they had a close game down the stretch. -
I figure we might as well just do it here. Not everyone has to be there at once, it can take place over the course of a few days.

Well, I'm happy Yahoo's rankings hate my keepers because I have all of them. Now if only Cheat hadn't taken Reed or Kazmir I would have been thrilled. Oh well, I'll take Upton, Swisher, Meyer, and Blanton. Speaking of young players, when are we doing the minor league draft and how are we doing it?

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Mar 6, 2005 -> 12:41 AM) Of course the cynic in me tells me Josh Fields is on the Carlos Lee track to the Majors... He may be at 3B all the way to the bigs, but from what I've heard about his defense, he may have to find another position. It sounds like he is improving his defense, but that was definitely a weakness early when they drafted him. His errors fell dramatically after those first few ugly weeks at W-S.

QUOTE(KipWellsFan @ Mar 5, 2005 -> 04:16 PM) Just a suggestion. Maybe you should start the article with the higher ranking players than the lower ranking players. So instead of Number 21 showing up first you see number 25 first. It makes it more suspenseful. Yeah I thought about that except every other ranking publication I've seen does it this way. It's rather odd if you ask me, but hey, I can change it if you want.

QUOTE(rangercal @ Mar 5, 2005 -> 02:57 PM) I dont say "f*** (fill in the blank) " if I was not jealous of some sort. This poll was made because Id say a big percentage of members on soxtalk are both Illini and bull fans. I say f*** Illinois all the time. I say f*** the Packers all the time, as a Falcons fan I have nothing to be jealous of. Your assumption is pretty poor as less than half of the members on Soxtalk are Illinois fans and less than 75% are Bulls fans. This poll is stupid and egotistical.

The experienced UCF is going to prevail. They went their last year as opposed to Gardner-Webb, who is in their first ever D1 conference tournament. On a more general note I was thinking that this thread could be more for the smaller conference tournaments and we could make a topic for each of the big conferences (Big 10, ACC, SEC, Big East, Big 12, maybe PAC 10).

QUOTE(rangercal @ Mar 5, 2005 -> 11:19 AM) sour grapes I've always hated Illinois. I see no reason to call this sour grapes, but then again you just assume that to make yourself and your team sound better.

QUOTE(whitesoxin' @ Mar 5, 2005 -> 11:25 AM) I'm assuming in Illinois the sectional comes after the regional? Because here in Indiana the order goes sectional, regional, semi-state, state finals. It's regional (2-3 games), sectional (2 games), super-sectional (1 game), state (final 8 teams).
