concern about KW
That's the thing...don't the majority of our strengths in the minor league system reside at the lower levels? Wouldn't those players at the lower levels be more closely associated to the KW era than the Scheuler era and, conversely, the lack of talent at the higher levels be more closely associated with the Scheuler era than the KW era? I personally like what KW has done. Sure he's trading away "prospects", but they aren't his prospects. He wasn't the one incessantly overhyping our farm system. Perhaps he's trying his best to unload all the crap that was handed over to him, I mean, that's what strong talent evaluators do, is it not? Incidentally, my favorite move this season that REALLY shows me that KW knows talent, is picking up Timo Perez. This little scraggly, poor hitting, part-time playing, hot dog defender has one of the best arms around and IS THE BEST CLUTCH HITTER IN BASEBALL. The guy hits under .200...unless there are men in scoring position, then he hits a measley .400+. Now THAT'S a guy who is a sound bench player and a solid contributor, and certainly one helluva pickup.

Sox announcers a little testy
Glad I was stuck with CIRCLEjerkME Bert on extra innings last night. You wanna talk about annoying broadcasters.......

Gammons 2k5 free agent outlook
I want Odalis first and foremost. I think he'd be an excellent fit on this team. He's pitching extremely well this season and has done so in the past. He's a competitor, would fit well with the Ozzman.

Soxtalk Soundoff: Jon Garland
I always had hope for Garland. I lost it while watching the Montreal game earlier this year when he had the no-hitter going. He started the inning with a perfect game, i think it was the 5th or 6th inning, and walked the first batter. He then walked the next 2 batters. He wouldn't f***ing throw the ball over the plate. He refused to give up that hit that would break up the no-no. That was the most SELFISH pitching performance I think I've ever witnessed. I was thoroughly disgusted. And then as the season progresses we get s*** talking about the umps, about the fans, etc. The guy is a headcase. He needs to go while we can get something decent for him.

READ THIS POST-NEW SOXTALK POSTING POLICY
but isn't someone who suggests rey ordonez would be a good signing indeed a f***ing idiot? I do agree that the threads that go on for pages that contain nothing but childish bickering need to be addressed, and it certainly sounds like you guys have identified that issue. On the other hand, there are plenty of instances on this board where people need to be told they're a dumbass. I mean it's an internet site, a message board, how hurt can someone's feelings truly get from an online insult? I don't know, I guess I just find it odd that an obscenity-laced tirade about Joe Crede or Mike Jackson is just fine and dandy but calling another poster an idiot is unacceptable. I think most people would agree that obscenity-laced tirades are not only more vulgar, but much more inappropriate in a forum where there are no age restrictions. But of course, I'm not responsible for maintaining the atmosphere on this board, so you guys probably know best.

Who turned us down, Walker or Kendall?
I thought it was Delgado who turned down a deal to the southside? If Kendall or Walker turned down a deal then that makes 2 deals vetoed by players.

Latest scoop on Mets-Bucs-Sox deal
I don't get to see much minor league action so I can't comment too much on Sweeney. But from what I've read and the little bit I've seen, Sweeney could be huge someday. He handled ML pitching in ST, granted it was ST but he handled it better than ole Jeremy Reed. He's done well at each level he's played at. So we trade him away for what? I understand that Floyd is a bat that we need, but does he do anything beside giving us a slightly better shot at the AL Central crown? This team isn't going to go any further than that, Floyd or no Floyd, without Maggs and Big Frank we aren't a WS caliber team IMO. I'm all about prospects for proven talent, but only if the proven talent will help you achieve big things. I don't see that as the case here. As far as Floyd himself, yeah, I like the pickup. He is an aging gamer that could provide some more LH pop in the heart of our order. Decent OBP and should hit very well at the Cell. Anyone know his contract status? I don't know, it's not a horrible deal but I don't like gambling the future on this 2004 White Sox team. As much as I hate to say it, I'd rather make the WS push next year when we hopefully have health on our side. The core of this team, with the possible exception of Maggs, will still be here next season.

Otis update from WSI
Well, atleast we won't have to wait 3 weeks to see if this comes to fruition. 52.5 more hours until the deadline.

Anyone else pleasantly surprised with...
No errors in 126 innings, caught 6 of 11 base stealers, and a .327AVG/.769OPS/8RBI in 55 ABs. Not too shabby for a guy that we all thought to be a career minor leaguer.

Neal Cotts and his role for this year
Agreed. I think that's the only value he has to this organization. I like Diaz much, much more than Cotts. I want to see Diaz in our rotation next season.

Borchard or Reed
I think Borchard has looked much better this time up. Granted, he still has some ugly swings and goes after some horrible pitches. But in general, he seems just a bit more patient and his swing looks better. Maybe I'm just seeing things so that I don't get pissed off, who knows, but I think we need to stick him out there full time and see how it goes.

Frank Cattalanotto?
there was a link over at WSI that stated Catalanatto has a torn something or other in his knee i believe....he's playing hurt.

Here's why the next game is critical
I'm 100% confident that we can win the division with what we've got. I'm 100% positive that this team will go absolutely nowhere in the playoffs. I don't want to see KW burn down the farm to get help this season. We seriously don't have strong enough of a team, even if you added a Beltran. When we were planning on having both Frank and Maggs in the lineup we knew that there was a bullpen hole to be filled and possibly a LH bat or another starter would be needed. That was it. Guys, we just lost our 2 best hitters. There comes a time, from a business standpoint, that you don't make bad gambles. Going out and trading talent, spending money without filling nearly every hole is a bad gamble. I say we go with what we've got, maybe pick up a cheap BP arm. I still think we can win the division but it's not too difficult to see that we don't have a WS caliber team right now, we're about 4-5 players short.

drum role please
Read something this morning in another thread stating that JR has apparently taken back his offer to open up the pocketbook a bit here at the deadline. I thought more attendance meant more money???

Torii go bye bye
Then how exactly does putting one in the ear hole of b****ass' batting helmet ensure a white sox loss???? You're seriously confusing me man.
-
Torii go bye bye
You still aren't grasping the concept apparently. Oh well. Would you mind explaining to me how the umps will justify tossing Big Fred without a warning and no other tightly pitched/hit batsmen???
-
Torii go bye bye
You must have gotten treated like a b**** a lot in school. This is major league baseball where teams cover one another's backs, not the f***ing schoolyard where "you're a bigger man for walking away".
-
Torii go bye bye
I don't see how Garcia could be ejected in the 2nd inning tomorrow by beaning b****ass. No warning will have been issued, no other hit batsmen, just a pitch that got away. Bonderman shouldn't have gotten tossed yesterday, the only reason he did was because of his pitch to Carl and the fact that Paulie had just homered, plus a young ignorant ump. b****ass will get his, he better have some extra padding in that f***ing helmet tomorrow. I think once the team gets to see a replay this evening or tomorrow they'll realize just how cheap of a shot that was. For those of you who are acting like this is no big deal, you're crazy. You know that Hawk reminds you every night about how long he's been in baseball. He knows the game. Did you happen to hear his "well I know what the hell i'd do" rant? I did. There's no question that retaliation is necessary and b****ass needs to be singled out.

Forgettable Sports Momemts
I got three physical stories from the unphysical game of golf: A couple years back I was golfing with my girlfriend's dad and a couple of his good friends. I was shooting my second shot on a par 5, 3 wood in hand. Swung the club and hit a screaming low shot. All of a sudden I see his buddy's cart come hauling ass across the fairway just in time to meet my golf ball. The ball hit the passenger on the thigh and he rolled out of the moving cart in pain. Luckily her dad thought it was funny. I was a freshman in high school and my grandparents had been trying to get me into golf. I'd been going with my grandma for a couple of weeks to play alongside her in her league, ya know, just kinda tagging along and playing out the holes. Well, one day I hit my ball onto a teebox and, being new to the game, thought I'd just take the cart right up onto the tee box to hit my next shot. Grandma, about 60yrs old at the time, yells to me not to drive on the box just as I'm approaching it. I quickly whip the wheel to the left to avoid the box....and there went grandma, tumbling out of the cart doing a beautiful 3-4 roll dismount before finally coming to a complete stop. I felt like such an ass. And finally, about 2 years ago my buddy Mike and I decide to go play a round. We got stuck with this old dude, had to have been pushing 70-75yrs old. Wore thick glasses and was really hard of hearing. There's this one par 3 that's WAY up on this hill, like a good 50-60 yds downhill. The old guy hits his ball. We hit our balls. He takes off down the hill on the S shaped cart path engraved in the trees. I forgot my head cover so had to run back onto the tee box then returned to make our way down the hill. Mike is driving the cart and decided to be "funny" and take one of the 180 degree turns on the path a little quick. The cart tips my way. I try to put my foot down but the momentum was too much. I looked beside me and saw nothing but woods on the steep hill. I use my right foot to try to push myself out of the way, no luck. The cart crashes over and luckily only skids a few feet. Clubs everywhere. Beers everywhere. Balls rolling down the hill. My f***ing right foot golf shoe buckled from the pressure in the arch and I had shred marks on the right side of my shirt, as well as plenty of scratches on my arm. Mike pretty much comes out unscathed. So we flip the cart back over, toss everything back in, and head down to the green. We were kinda worried that the old guy might say something to the pro shop so we didn't want to let him in on what had happened. The old man asked where we went and we fed him some bulls***. He bought it, apparently not noticing my beaten appearance and scratched up golf cart. Incidentally, Mike had taken over driving duties that day after I got us stuck in some mud on the 2nd hole. Mike and some other old guy pushed the cart out, but the old guy, who was pimping a nice white jacket, fell into the mud once the cart moved. Hilarious day.

any chance for beltran
Is it still an "all or nothing" with our two best hitters possibly out for the season? Is it still worth mortgaging the future? I'm not so sure it is. I'm confident we can still win this division but, even with frank and maggs, our chances at getting past NY or OAK was anything but definite. With the loss of those two I'm not so sure I'm all for trading the farm for a shot this season. BTW, I'm a guy who wholeheartedly believes in trading prospects, no matter how highly regarded, for proven talent. It's just that you have to take calculated risks, and the risk just got a lot higher with yesterday's news.

and that's a White Sox winner!!!!!
Who needs Maggs and Big Frank anyway? Good win but ELo still looked horrid.

The continuing Incline of Aaron Rowand
Exactly. True team player, something that seems to be a rarity anymore. Seems that everytime ARow gets consistent playing time he ends up hitting well, except for last spring coming off the motorcycle accident. He rocks!
