Sox scouting Lyle Overbay
This is one of the few good things about overpaying in the past. In Seattle and MIL, KW has GMs that understand that KW is not looking to fleece anyone, he's looking to truly make deals that will improve both teams. Also, there's no doubt that other GMs across the league have taken note. This puts KW in a much better position than conceited assholes who write autobiographies about their GM abilities before reaching age 50.

Jason Schmidt News
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 03:02 PM) Would you guys do Contreras, Bmac, Sweeney and say Valido for Schmidt and Vizquel. I must say, I'd definately think long and hard about it. Mainly because I want Vizquel badly Plus Schmidt is a total horse and wouldn't be a 3 month rental. In a heartbeat...we fill two holes on this team by only giving up one ML player.

The AJ Burnett 24 Hour Window Thread
I don't get that Jayson Stark quote. If they don't want to take the Sox package because they'd need a starter, then why in the hell are they trading a starter away? I know that there's been some issues with Burnett down in FL, but are they really bad enough to move him prior to a run at the division crown? What do the Marlins know that we don't know about AJ?

NYC Random Bag Search
It really is getting f***ing ridiculous. 9/11 was a tragedy, no doubt, but the brutal fact of the matter is that the attack resulted in the deaths of roughly .00001% of the US population. There is no way in hell that the infiringements upon our personal liberties, blatant disregard for our constitution, constant fear tactics delivered by our government, and a president with carte blanche powers over war, can be justified by an incident that claimed the lives of .00001% of our population. It's absolutely mad. Worse yet, a surprising majority of our citizens back these insane attacks on liberty. Ask 10 people how they feel and probably 7-8 of them will respond with the ole loveable, "well, if you don't have anything to hide why should it bother you?" response. Federal legislation like the Patriot Act and local legislation like this bag search program should be raising cynicism across party lines; the democrats and their strong backing of civil liberties and republicans with their strict constitutionalist tendencies. Well, neither party gives a s*** beside their fringe members. Our "free" press does very little to bring sanity to the debate, for fear brings about better ratings. We're walking down a treachorous road. We need to start getting the common man back in power from Washington down to the smallest municipalities.

El Duque
He went to full counts entirely too often for a guy who wears down easily. Seemed like he did a nice job for the most part getting ahead of the hitters but then would refuse to throw them a strike. I just don't have any faith in him, 5th starter or not.

AJ Burnett News
QUOTE(Antonio Osuna @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 12:05 AM) The trade becomes pointless to me if we have to give up an SP. This trade only makes sense if it lets us add another top-notch starter and put a Cuban in the bullpen/emergency #5 spot. If Florida won't give us SP for AAA OFs, then we need to find somebody who will. Agreed...I thought the point of a trade was to fill Duque's void with Contreras and fill the Count's #4 spot with an above average (stuff-wise) pitcher. If we lose Count, we're in the same boat as we're in now.

Extra Innings subscriber here, just wanted to let those of you who haven't subscribed that they are having a free trial right now. I don't know how long this will last, probably through the weekend, but looks like it's a good Sox series to catch.

Baseball/Softball dropped from Olympics
Can't remember who wrote the article, but there was an editorial concerning this in the SunTimes. The guy brought up a great point. He believes, and I'd agree, that a gold medal should be the highest award in an olympic sport, the holy grail that an athlete of that sport pushes to attain. With sports like baseball and basketball, the gold medal pales in comparison to an MLB or NBA championship, for those are the true grails of those sports. With the olympics offering the opportunity to attain a second-rate award, players have less to play for and the talent can be watered down. I think he really had some valid points.

Kenny Rogers
It was his hatred for the press that got him into this mess...why in the f*** would he want to go to the All Star game?

Get your drugs ASAP
QUOTE(winodj @ Jul 8, 2005 -> 01:58 AM) Try 65-70 Grand a year to be more realistic. And try paying back huge student loan bills every month that amount to bills larger than most mortgages in Indiana. Where I live, and with my modest means - I need almost 40K a year to break even at the end of the day. And I don't have student loan payments to deal with. If they think conditions are unbearable, or inappropriate, or god forbid, put the people they serve at risk (by perhaps not being conscious enough to realize they're giving one drug instead of another) - then they have every right to organize and try to make their conditions better. If it works, more power to them. Not to mention the fact that when they do screw up, claiming that the store was understaffed will not save their license. When your employer's negligence puts your livelihood at risk, you should be completely justified in stopping work until that negligence has been addressed.

116 Wins
QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Jun 23, 2005 -> 01:41 PM) I'm not sure about 116 wins- but 100 wins is very well possible. When was the last time the White Sox won 100 wins in a season? Last time was 1917 when they won an even 100.

Shingo Takatsu B*tches!!!
I'm sure there's some physics involved, but Shingo's offspeed junk is true garbage when it's cool outside. I'm starting to think it's more than coincidence that this is 2 seasons in a row where he doesn't start pitching well until the thermometer starts spreading the mercury further.

Time to make a deal for a 5th starter?
QUOTE(upnorthsox @ Jun 21, 2005 -> 02:13 PM) As the season grows shorter and our lead grows wider the need for a 5th starter becomes less and less. Unless El Duque goes down completely and BMac just flat out can't cut it, we should be able to get by with a combo of those two the rest of the way out. What we need to do is solidify our chances of winning the other 4 days and since, IMO, there is no bat we can realistically go and get to assure that(in fact it can be argue that we just got that bat with Frank's return) then our best bet is to get a quality BP arm. If KW can get a top tier pitcher there will not be a need for more bp help considering that the Cubans, mainly El Duque, have been responsible for any strain put on our BP so far this season. If you've got a staff of 4 guys (MB, FG, JG, top tier guy) who are all but guaranteed to make it 6-7 innings every outing, the BP as it stands now would be fine covering for just 1 weaker spot in the rotation (Contreras, usually short outings). Hell, if you're gonna spend the money and talent to upgrade the team go for a starter.

Ozzie may have something new in store for El Duque
I really don't want to see the Sox improve El Duque's health at the expense of our 4 other starters.

Time to make a deal for a 5th starter?
I agree with Richie Allen, I think if Kdub deals for a starter it will be a top tier pitcher. If he can't get something done without giving up anyone off of our 25 man (minus Willie or Ozuna), I would love to see him go after Casey Fossum from TB. This guy is relatively cheap (around $1M) and is pitching very well this season. He'd be a great stopgap while allowing the duke to rest.

Crede on Block?
QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Jun 20, 2005 -> 10:58 PM) You mean the one that is hitting .304 in June with 4HR and 8 RBI in the first 20 days this month? I was wondering when someone would mention how well he's been playing lately. He's looking much better lately. I'll bet if you took a poll of Sox pitchers asking if they like Joe Crede on this team, they would unanimously choose to keep Joe. The guy is a big reason our pitchers have been doing as well as they have this season. Granted, Joe's had a couple of boneheaded mistakes at the hot corner, but that's inevitable regardless of who's playing 3rd. He's a #8 hitter capable of hitting 20+ HRs, how much complaining can we really do?

White Sox vs Buddy Bell's Royals 06/20/05
QUOTE(Ozzie Montana @ Jun 21, 2005 -> 01:55 AM) We shouldve kept McCarthy down at AAA. He's not ready yet and all we are doing is wasting his options. We shoulda brought up Adkins or Bej see if they got it, atleast until el duque comes back plus they already got major league experience. I don't believe you can burn more than one option in a season. We can bring him up and down all we want this season without jeopardizing future flexibility. I'm blacked out down here in Tulsa being they're playing KC, but from the sounds of it KW has a slot in the rotation to fill. I wouldn't be surprised if we see the trigger pulled within the next week. Roger, oh Roger, how'd you like to win a ring in Chicago?

AND THATS A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!!
What a win. Whatta f***ing win. This team is unreal in the late innings. We've seen it so many times this season. They'll just hang tight, hang tight, hang tight....8th or 9th inning they wait for the bullpen to come in and then they pounce. I really like the makeup of this team. At this point in the season, after proving to the league that we don't hesitate to come back and win late, closers tend not to have that strut and dominating attitude coming in to face our boys in the 9th. When you're in their heads before they throw a pitch, you're doing something special.

Jim Rome
I think Rome is pretty entertaining. I hate to be the one to remind you guys, but Rome has been on the Sox bandwagon all season. Our guys have been guests several times on his show and he consistently mentions us in a positive light. I have no problem with what Mark said but I can understand where Rome and others are coming from. The steroid debacle led to a witchhunt, Mark may have just opened the door to another witchhunt.

The Cleveland Indians
I wanna say that I saw a stat saying that the Injun's team ERA was in the top 5 of the AL. If they start hitting consistently, they could really apply some heat later in the season. Sizemore is just a completely different hitter these last 2 weeks, looking like a real stud.

6/12 Game Thread - Garcia vs Lawrence
QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jun 12, 2005 -> 07:55 PM) And he puts the only hitters who at least have been consistant over the last few weeks. Bench Cruddy, bench uribe. i can see those moves. But why bench productive hitters. But then again why would you ph Timo over Frank and Everett. Crede has been hitting .385 (5-13) over the last week with a .500 OBP.

6/12 Game Thread - Garcia vs Lawrence
QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jun 12, 2005 -> 07:48 PM) Well Ozzie has to get his girlfriend in the game. This offense will get shut out today. No gooch, no arow and no dye. Nice focking lineup Ozzie, we we cant win every series with Sunday Manuel lineups. Well, I was going to reply that Oz is obviously playing the matchup against Lawrence...but then I looked at his splits. BAA righties in '05 .299, lefties .261....on his career BAA righties .250 lefties .295. Fairly even IMO, no reason not to put your best lineup out on the field. Oh well, we'll see how it goes. My biggest concern is the outfield defense in that bigass park. gulp.
