The ten most important players to the future of Sox
QUOTE(caulfield12 @ May 30, 2007 -> 10:33 PM) Are you sure you're not overvaluing Egbert a TAD? Vazquez? The interesting thing about Jenks and Thornton, they might be among the players with the most trade value, because of their affordable contracts, the value of lefty set-up men who throw 95-97 and Jenks' playoff experience. Realistically, if you look at how many closers we've gone through in the last decade (Hernandez, Howry, Foulke, Koch, Gordon, Takatsu, Hermanson, Jenks), it would seem to be the most overvalued member of many ballclubs, unless you're Mariano Rivera/Hoffman in their primes, Joe Nathan, a healthy Gagne, etc. I'll wait until Cunningham succeeds in AA before jumping on that bandwagon....same with the Faustino De Los Santos fan club. Since Garland's name hasn't come up yet, despite his relative youth, am I to assume we'd prefer to keep Vazquez over Jon, or simply that we believe Garland might become prohibitively expensive and we could get a decent package in return for him, like the proposed Astros' move? Going by the buy low, sell high philosophy, you would think Garland would give us a pretty decent return, despite his lack of eye-popping stats. Just trot out the 36 wins in 05-06 stat, that's the most impressive. Doh, I forgot Garland. Yeah, he'd be on my list. Dunno bout Cheat.

Adam Russell, Charlie Haeger, Gavin Floyd...
QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ May 30, 2007 -> 10:13 PM) I'm beginning to think that Eggy could out-perform Masset in the long-man/6th starter role. That'd be more of a Gavin Floyd role, wouldn't it?

The ten most important players to the future of Sox
QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ May 30, 2007 -> 09:55 PM) In order Danks Gio Egbert Buehrle Vazquez Sweeney Fields Cunningham Jenks I can only manage 9, and after that it's just a crap shoot, and or players who don't figure to be effective for the Sox next division title team. I don't even think you can count on Jenks to be effective 3 years from now, which should be the current (realistic) target for the Sox to be back (fighting) on top again. I'd bump Buehrle in front of Jack and Gio. I'd probably move up Jenks too, but pretty spot on with what I think.

Stray Rod
I'd still trade any player on our roster for him. Well, except for Logan.

Yay! Praise from BA
QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ May 29, 2007 -> 11:03 PM) Can we stop with the Brandon Webb comparisons? I've turned into quite a fan of Eggy's, but I think it's silly to compare him to the best sinkerballer in the game right now. I think he'll end up better than the Shawn Hills, Aaron Cooks, and Clay Hensleys of the world, but it's still premature to start mentioning his name with a Cy Young candidate. It's a joke from our latest podcast, which, if it wasn't Gaged, you'd know about.

if u got to start a team
Not one A-Rod mention so far?

Yay! Praise from BA
And yet they ignore the next Brandon Webb. Pity.

We need some young blood...
QUOTE(BearSox @ May 29, 2007 -> 08:32 PM) This team needs some young blood. Right now, they look like a bunch of lifeless bums. We need some youth. I guess you can say this is the new "If I were GM, I'd do this..." thread. Who could you possibly be referring to?

QUOTE(BearSox @ May 28, 2007 -> 09:39 PM) Why is Anderson DH'ing? Does it have something to do with that injury he had a while ago? I think Fields would be a defensive disaster at SS, but I'm probably wrong. Getz didn't play today. I wouldn't be surprised to see him get moved up to AAA. I'm assuming it's simply because that's what they want to focus on, and they also want Sweeney to work on CF reads and defense. Fields is the closest thing they have to a SS right now, and they aren't gonna play him at 2B, a position Tomas can handle. Getz has been hurt.- 2007 White Sox Catch-All Thread
It'll be nearly an hour and 45 minutes of pure awesomeness.- 5/28 Games
QUOTE(fathom @ May 28, 2007 -> 09:32 PM) I think it's great that Fields is getting some time at SS. It's gotta be cause they don't have anyone else.- Video Game Catch-All Thread

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ May 28, 2007 -> 04:42 PM) Honestly, what else can be said for having two tremendous selling points. Play for country idol Ozzie Guillen; and play for a recent World Series team. Hernandez decided on Seattle in part because Garcia played for them. There should be a monopoly on outgoing talent. I'm going to hold you up on the five cy youngs between them. All I ask is that you give them a chance. Which would you prefer, a greater focus on improving our drafting or our international scouting? - MiLB.com decides to be awesome
