Iowa AD: Basketball program going in right direction
I really shouldn't give Iowa fans crap. We hang banners for conference championships, conference tournament championships and NCAA berths. I can't remember if we do for the NIT. It kind of depends on the sport. We've got a ton of s*** hanging up there, including retired jerseys. But like, for wrestling, we've got the eight national championship banners and that's it.

Just what BA wanted to hear...
The key is, how is our team going to be put in position to be most successful? I think it's with an OF of Erstad-Anderson-Dye.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Mar 13, 2007 -> 11:32 PM) I assume Jason Kendall is a grinder. Marcus Giles? David Wells. I remember a story about him from last year.- Sox @ Rangers, March 13
QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 13, 2007 -> 11:29 PM) Jim Rice Catfish Hunter we could go on for days So, when will the Sox sign Lew Ford? Or the Pirahnyas?- Sox @ Rangers, March 13
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Mar 13, 2007 -> 11:26 PM) Darin "The Anomaly" Erstad. Aaron "The Fence Eater" Rowand. Should we just include Pods instead, to keep the Sox angle? Scotty "Speed Demon" Podsednik- The Office
QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Mar 13, 2007 -> 11:23 PM) I agree. I have all but one of this season's episodes still on my DVR. I like to watch The Office when I can fast-forward through the commercials and focus on the show, with no distractions. I don't like to watch it live. You would think that the Nielson Ratings would somehow be able to account for what is being recorded in addition to what is being watched. That said, in all my years, I have never known anyone to be a "Nielsen Family". Is there some shroud of secrecy or is it just possible, in my 38 years, 3 cities and fairly large base of acquaintances it is purely coincidental? We're trying to shelter you.- Sox @ Rangers, March 13
QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 13, 2007 -> 11:24 PM) The funny thing about mentioning grinders is that if we used our collective brains last year, we would have guaranteed that Erstad would be on the White Sox. What other players does Hawk gush over about their all-out hustle? Well, Byrnes......- Sox @ Rangers, March 13
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Mar 13, 2007 -> 11:22 PM) How about a comic book depicting Eric Byrnes, Darin Erstad, Aaron Rowand etc. as super heroes? I mean, in these people's minds these players already have super human powers such as the ability to immediately turn any s***ty team into a winner just with their presence alone (despite their below average production) and how their play on the field actually transcends statistics. I love it. We need catchy nicknames. QUOTE(BearSox @ Mar 13, 2007 -> 11:23 PM) Would Mike Caruso be the super-villian? More likely, Brian Anderson.- Sox @ Rangers, March 13
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Mar 13, 2007 -> 11:13 PM) Do you realize what kind of unchartered territory we're entering here? Just think about it for a second, there are hundreds of books out there that are considered excellent forms of reference for baseball fans who believe statistics are a huge part of the game. The people who often write off such publications as hogwash and completely ignore SABRmetrics and such are in fact the same people who believe in the notion of 'Grinders' and the soon to be formed religion 'Grinderism' (oh it's happening). So what if we could provide these stat non-believers with a statistic of their own that proves their idea of 'Grinders' as fact? The result? Lucrative? Our first obstacle would theoretically be to quantitatively measure grinderness, but the same people who would buy such a guide are already wary of numbers. Thus, we need pictures and flowery descriptions.- NIT Talk
Marist downs Okie State in Stillwater.- Sox @ Rangers, March 13
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Mar 13, 2007 -> 10:57 PM) Wait can pitchers be considered grinders? Oh my, time to update the "Grinder Index". I have to find a place for Mike Fetters, he always had the look and production of a grinder. Kalapse, I would like to enter into talks with you about the production of The Grinder Handbook. It's basically a Grinder Index for grinders.- Catch-All Anything Thread
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Mar 13, 2007 -> 10:48 PM) I just played soccer at lunchtime in 90+ dgeree heat for an hour, and I think I'm about to pass out at work. Good times (so take that you Iowans in snow). The snow is gone. And it's nighttime, silly.- The Official [SCRUBS] Thread

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Mar 13, 2007 -> 10:32 PM) 94 ERA+ last season and he'll be 37 years old in this year. I'm sure he'd do just fine. Sounds like a slightly younger, worse version of Count.- Rowand on The Score

QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Mar 13, 2007 -> 10:14 PM) Yeah, but those were some damn fun worms. They were, weren't they. Big, juicy ones.- Rowand on The Score
Mark was for a couple of years, but that's opening a different can of worms. Why trade BA when we can't get s*** for him?- Rowand on The Score
There's maybe 5 ace talents in baseball. The best you can hope for from Danks and Gio are #2-#4 talents.- Rowand on The Score
QUOTE(BearSox @ Mar 13, 2007 -> 08:03 PM) If we could get a good/potential filled bullpen arm out of the Marlins like Renyal Pinto or Petit out of Anderson I'd probably do the trade, if we got Rowand from a package like Tracey and Rogo. If we trade BA for a bullpen prospect, I will vomit.- Predict the FutureSox Top 25
