  1. Does owning a team already disqualify me?
  2. I usually think of super-subs better than .254/.295/.427 80 OPS+.
  3. Freese is a 24 y/o corner infielder who can't slug .500 in AA, this deal sucks.
  4. QUOTE(lostfan @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 12:50 PM) I just think he is. He showed flashes of what he could be his rookie year if he cut down on his strikeout numbers, and he did. He has power and crazy speed, he hits a ridiculous number of triples. Plus he's a highlight reel on defense. I'd be surprised if his numbers declined, or weren't something close to 2007. I think Sizemore = Granderson btw Granderson was 6th in the AL in strikeouts last year....Not that they mean anything but he hardly cut down on them

  10. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Sep 27, 2007 -> 11:25 AM) I mean, come on. If there is any player in baseball you want on your team, Johan has to be top 3 Hanley Ramirez Albert Pujols Ryan Braun Yovanni Gallardo Tim Lincecum Curtis Granderson Phillip Hughes Ryan Howard Jake Peavy
  11. QUOTE(Wanne @ Sep 24, 2007 -> 08:50 PM) Dude...some old lady got what...$350K from McDonalds for spilling hot coffee on herself. Never underestimate the ineptitude of the judicial system. http://www.vanosteen.com/mcdonalds-coffee-lawsuit.htm
  12. The thought is good but its already been done, far better than anyone here could hope w/o putting months and maybe years into their formulas. Its called EqA and VORP is good too, WARP is even better because it has defense.
  13. FRAA consistently puts Buehrle at like 2-7 FRAA and Garland at 1-2 which means they're both good but Buehrle is better. Rowand was a better canidate than Hunter in 2005, better than Vernon Wells too but he was just slightly above average so I'm sure if I looked I could find that he didn't deserve to win either. For example, Ichiro was better and Podsedniks 2005 defense was by far the best I've seen in the AL that year. The 2005 AL OF Gold Gloves should have been Randy Winn (SEA) 13 FRAA (split between LF and CF) Jaque Jones (MIN) 12 FRAA Scott Podsednik (CHW) 11 FRAA Runner up; Nook Logan (DET) 9 FRAA
  14. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 4, 2007 -> 04:48 PM) If it's so easy to divvy out the blame/recognition then how much of '05 was Ozzie's doing? I didn't realize it was so easy to figure out how much of an effect a manager has on a ballclub's success, are the good seasons good because of the manager and the s***ty seasons s***ty because of the players? I just don't think giving a manager a contract extension during one of the worst season's in club history is a very good idea. Exactly.
  15. Brad Wilkerson in 2004, 107 games in the lead off spot 32 HR 67 RBI.
  16. QUOTE(The Critic @ Aug 26, 2007 -> 05:03 PM) As painful as it is to see how far they've fallen, the feeling of 2005 is worth it even if they never get there again. Think about Astros fans - their team is every bit as bad as the Sox are right now, and they have a 4-game Series loss to remember from 2005. I'm thankful for the 2005 trophy no matter what happens in the future. Of course I want them to return to the playoffs and win a few more Series, but if they don't it doesn't tarnish the memory of 2005 to me one bit. The Astros still have Berkman, Pence, Oswalt, Lee, Lidge, Qualls to fall back on. They'll be a lot better once Everrett, Biggio and Ausmus stop being automatic outs in the lineup.
  17. QUOTE(michelangelosmonkey @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 09:03 PM) Their 1B, 2B, SS, 3B, RF, C and DH are over 30. Half of their pitchers are over 30. Their young core is Granderson, Verlander, Zuma and Zuma. My point is everyone is up in arms over the old Sox. Crede, Uribe, Richar, Fields, Buehrle, Garland, Jenks, Danks all under 30. Its not hopeless. Granderson, Maybin, Raburn, Shelton (still young, can hit), Verlander, Miller, Bonderman, Zumaya, Gorkys Hernandez, Robertson is decent too. I can't believe you listed Uribe as a positive. The depth and quality of the Sox isn't nearly as good as the Tigers.
  18. QUOTE(michelangelosmonkey @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 08:39 AM) I offered like three ifs. Sometimes a 90 win team wins 80 games...sometimes it wins 100. That is the wonderful randomness of baseball. Konerko is a career .850 OPS guy. Remeber 2003 when he hit 18 homers with a .230 batting average? Then in 2006 he hit .313 with 35 homers. Same guy...no injuries...or Buehrle who has a career batting average against him of .268...same ballpark, same guy...in 2001 his batting average against was .230. Last year it was .305..it's all part of the great randomness of baseball. Accumulate talent then hope that you get the ups at the same time. The tigers are a good old team with Palonco, Guillen, Ordonez, Sheffield, Inge, Casey, Rodriquez, Jones, and Rogers all over 30. Their relief ace, star hitter and key pitcher all basically forty. Gilli, Robertson, Durbin are all 30. Detroit isn't a dynasty...they are a veteran team with the old guys pulling together with a couple of young talented pitchers. Polanco is nice, Guillen, Ordonez, Sheffield are the only others that are signifigant parts of the Tigers. Grilli blows and Durbin has been lucky. Rodriguez is on pace for like 8-9 walks. The whole year. Ordonez is 5th, Granderson 8th, Sheffield 16th, Guillen 31st (thats in VORP). I'm not sure how Sheffield is "their star hitter". Gas Can has a 4.67 ERA so he's not the relief ace. Also, Miller, Bondo, Verlander are all more important pitchers than Rogers.
  19. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 29, 2007 -> 09:24 PM) The guy was killed early in his career by bad Tiger teams and that hampered his development. Last season he seemed to make strides and find some consistency and he wasn't able to match that this year. I don't know if he's having arm trouble or not because he has a very tricky arm angle and good velocity to go with it (especially for a lefty). Like Bonderman?
  20. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 21, 2007 -> 02:20 AM) The cubs are not the old whitesox. They have no pitching outside of one pitcher. Think more of the 2004 whitesox. They wont advance too far in the playoffs. So dont get them in a bunch over this. Zambrano has the 4th best ERA of CHC SP.
