QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 04:04 PM) That's freaking awesome! Love the quote, but not the person who's bed it is. We've been there before, Fox is too skanky for me now days. If you wouldn't hit that, you need to just surrender your penis and testicles for good.

More insight on Obama and gays in the military. http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?sh...p;#entry1940139 I always thought it was an executive order Clinton signed as a compromise. I never realized Congress actually passed legislation for it and that it'd take Congressional action to change it. No wonder Obama hasn't done anything yet.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 01:12 PM) How about "he could if he tried"? Doing what he does makes him a rich man, so there's no motivation to actually make a coherent, well-supported argument. Pretty much what I was trying to say. He doesn't because he doesn't want to. I'm saying he probably could be a policy wonk if he wanted but since ranting and mocking gets him unbelievably rich, he's never going to.

What would you rather have?

QUOTE (HighHeat45 @ Jun 4, 2005 -> 11:25 PM) I would take the white sox championship over the 100,000 but catch the next flight to vegas and put everything i own down on the sox winning the world series then get more than 100,000 and the championship This would've worked out beautifully Also, since this thread was started before the Sox won it all and before I posted here, I'd take the 100k either before or after. I'm as much of a die-hard as anyone, but hell, it's just baseball. That feeling of deliriousness fades eventually. Nearly slicing my mortgage debt in half, that would not. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 12:20 PM) Frankly, I dunno if he could. Have you ever heard a serious policy discussion from him? Not just on his radio show, but in private speeches, appearances, writings, etc.? Depends, how do you define "policy"? He talks about generic conservative principles ad nauseam but doesn't really get that specific except to say that liberals are stupid. You definitely won't get it from Hannity either, he is a tool. There are other conservative hosts that actually do though.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 12:11 PM) The things people on my side will come back to in order to defend him is that he's actually a legitimate policy wonk. He could sit down with top people from think tanks and go on about policy details with the best of them. He went from being a comedian with a political bent to expanding his political thoughts on a radio show with a non-trivial amount of policy details thrown in to actually organizing and running a campaign for the Senate. You could sit him down tomorrow and go through the health care debate, and the next day he could explain to you the finer intricacies of the difference between a carbon tax and a cap and trade system. Limbaugh could do that too if he wanted, but he just chooses not to and to be an ignoramus instead.

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 10:41 AM) How was he at all like those two? Liberal talk radio personality? Sometimes controversial?
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 10:35 AM) Well to be fair, it was because he played Hannity/LImbaugh of the left for years on the radio... He's more like O'Reilly or Ingraham. Or... s*** even Ann Coulter although he is nowhere near as much of an ignorant condescending asshole. But those people actually went to school and have qualifications.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 10:17 AM) How is he on his way? Have you ever read a single post from kapkomet?

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 09:53 AM) When people from Europe tell me how much better it is here, then I tend to believe it. And it's more then "anecdotal" when so many people come here for their treatment of serious ailments. If you have a sinus infection, I'm sure that the system is fine to get a script of antibiotics. Not really the point I was going for.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 09:28 AM) Right but making the argument of such and such works one place so it must work here is one that comes up way too often. We are not Europe, but they are used all the time for comparison. Denmark, for example, can work a lot of social programs largely because they are a small country with a lot of high earning jobs in a place largely devoid of natural disasters and the top earners pay roughly 60% in tax. A lot of what they can do can not be done here. We're very similar to Europe in some ways, but also so very different in others you (not you) can't just say "well look at so and so, they do it so well" and expect the same situation if applied here. That's all. Just as often Europe is used as the example for what not to be (i.e. a socialist hellhole), also without any caveat. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 09:36 AM) Just as often, I hear the argument that certain things won't work because "look at Canada!!!". Neither one sway me much. And Canada's problems are usually exaggerated for political purposes here. Their healthcare system is far from being the nightmare it's made out to be. Sure there's anecdotal examples of inefficiency or occasional failure but for every one of those you can probably come up with 3 or 4 here.

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 09:18 AM) I think that gets lost because he was a comedian and on SNL. Yeah he gets compared to people like Hannity, Beck, Limbaugh etc. a lot. But which one of those 3 graduated college? O'Reilly is a better comparison.

I never knew that Al Franken graduated magna cum laude from Harvard.

Ricketts may have purchased the Cubs, but John Danks still owns them.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 6, 2009 -> 11:53 PM) Walter Payton dying hit me really hard. I imagine Michael Jordan dying will be pretty bad. this

Yeah he is sarcastically calling him and players like him bush league as a compliment, it just reads really odd.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 6, 2009 -> 12:00 PM) It worked while they were investigating Blagojevich. Everyone and their grandmother knew he was being investigated and wiretapped and all that did was encourage him. Yeah but Blagojevich was a narcissistic idiot. Palin's situation is... wait I just repeated myself.

Russia agreed to let the U.S. ship supplies through Russian territory (via rail I guess) today.
-
QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 6, 2009 -> 11:07 AM) I'm not advocating a war with North Korea. A war with North Korea would need full Chinese and Russian support or else it would be a catastrophic error in judgement. However, I was just playfully pointing out that money would probably be no problem for the current administration to come up with. Oh I know where your opinion is (wasn't referring to you as a war drumbeater either), I just used that opportunity to rant that point again and shout into space, no other reason really.
-
QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 6, 2009 -> 10:03 AM) That's the easy part. The same people who are/will be paying for everything else. Money evidently is no problem for this administration I just find it hilarious, and slightly dismaying, that war drumbeaters are almost always the same people who are concerned with excessive government spending. War is ridiculously expensive, a 3rd war for us would make the stimulus bill look like my tax refund.

Nepotism isn't a terrible thing, but in the 6th round it is. Sheesh.

I'd try like hell to let as few people know I'm rich as possible. I have a lot of dumbass friends and a massive family. -
I watch WNBA games occasionally but since I don't have a favorite team I don't really care much. During the Olympics I pay just as much attention to the women as I do for the men. A medal for USA is a medal, doesn't matter if it's a man or a woman.
