QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 8, 2005 -> 01:04 PM) I thought the Big Bang creating the universe would have been the biggest explosion ever? Something about conservation of energy makes me think the same thing. I think they just mean this is the largest explosion ever detected.

Wow, move out West, lose a few pounds.

QUOTE(The Critic @ Jan 8, 2005 -> 12:27 PM) Is it crazy to consider AJ for the 2 slot? He hits for a high average, puts the ball in play, being a lefty probably means he puts the ball to the right side fairly often. I don't think he strikes out too much, but I'm not really sure about that. The only downside would appear to be the double play, due to the lack of foot speed. What does everyone think? Should the Sox try AJ hitting 2nd in Spring Training to see how he does? It's not crazy but I think his foot speed makes Uribe or Rowand the more logical choice.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 7, 2005 -> 10:52 PM) I thought they found about that burrito I had in Mexico a couple days ago and the later explosion . . . Damnit, beat me to the food joke. I was gonna say something witty about Hardees too but forget it.

The Japanese Leagues "White Sox"
DonkeyKongerko replied to Wise Master Buehrle's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I just hope we don't finish our season the way the Dragons did. I guess making the series would mean we probably won a home playoff game or two though. -
Paul Molitor at the end of his career?
-
I'm also curious about LaRussa. Does he normally appear at SoxFest?
-
I expect it's already in the works. Just gotta widen that banner a bit.

Score just reported Sox sign AJ
DonkeyKongerko replied to 103 mph screwball's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Regardless of performance, I do not think the starting catcher job is up for grabs this Spring Training. I think AJ at 2.25 million could only lose the job in April or May with a terrible performance AND the Sox being below .500. Also I don't know if it was posted but whitesox.com is doing a position-by-position series of articles. The catcher article posted a few days ago had a very doubtful tone and it has now changed to "Pierzynski a force behind the plate for White Sox". -
The only conclusion I can draw is that I have too much time on my hands.

Some current PHT thread titles: Wilson Valdez No DJ at Soxfest - Could Stone be taking his spot? Pierzynski to be on AM1000 Jaime Burke news Two Hole Options Some current WSI thread titles: Wilson Valdez Steve Stone White Sox Broadcaster? AJ on espn 1000 Burke gone! Designated for assignment The 2 hole Notice how we called him Pierzynski but they call him AJ. Also "Two" is spelled out in our thread title. I leave it to you guys to draw the obvious conclusions.

QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Jan 7, 2005 -> 02:19 PM) anyone that's seen Garden State would remember Frau Frau's "Let Go" big fan of that song right now.... I like that song just from the commercials. Someday I'll get around to actually seeing the movie.

I last checked this thread when there were like 3 posts in it. Good work everyone and you all have my envy for having mad photoshop skillz.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jan 7, 2005 -> 03:02 PM) Here's some sound clips I have made: Hawk calls the last out of the 1993 clincher. Frank's walkoff against the angels in 2003 Konerko's 2 run homer off of Joe Blorowski to give the Sox the lead back in 2002 Aaron Rowand's game tying homer off of Antonio ALfonseca in 2003. Thanks Now I need to go to whitesox.com and watch some 2003 highlights again. Also, good topic OP.

QUOTE(ChiSoxFan @ Jan 7, 2005 -> 04:11 PM) A.J. said Konerko could outrace him. Paulie DID steal a base last year.
-
I was originally gonna say Uribe because of his speed but Rowand actually was more successful at stealing bases than Juan. Their overall 2004 numbers are actually quite similar. With Podsednik (hopefully) doing the damage at leadoff, I still think Uribe should start the season at #2 and Rowand should be closer to the heart. Willie at #9 should play under alot less pressure hopefully and also maybe Scott can teach him a thing or two about basestealing.

Every time I listen to this it amazes me.

Carlos certainly proved you can never be too old to learn to play the outfield. Still I'm pretty sure Scott Podsednik has at least as good an arm and more range than Carlos Lee.

I guess the real question is, who would win a footrace? GIDPaul or GIDPierzynski? -
It sounds like this guy is on the get rich quick off MLB plan from Kaz Matsui. I'm still so happy we got AJ over LA and StL and we can avoid a bidding war by going after a solid defensive player in Cora.

Your Top 5 sox players of the 30 years
DonkeyKongerko replied to Winnin Ugly's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Frank Thomas Carlton Fisk Jack McDowell Robin Ventura Sam Sosa Harold Baines -
On the KW grading scale, this offseason has to be an A. All but one of the glaring needs have been addressed in some manner this offseason. Some long-time problem areas like 5th starter and catcher also seem to have been addressed finally. I believe we are building a more balanced and competitive team 70~75 million can buy with the best pitching staff assembled in a decade on the South Side.

How many extra wins do we get with A.J.
DonkeyKongerko replied to Loaiza21's topic in Pale Hose Talk
If you like win shares, which I do, AJ ranked 8th among NL catchers in 2004 Win Shares with 13 in 131 games. Last year Sox win shares = 5 (Burke) + 4 (Olivo) + 3 (Davis) + 2 (Alomar) = 14 in 162 games. -
QUOTE(bjam44 @ Jan 7, 2005 -> 01:52 AM) The first one was seeing Colon strike out Barry Bonds three times in one game and then in the 9th Seeing Barry Hit a shot into centerfield to tie the game. I stood up and claped after that. So many of Franks moster Shot. I could go on for hours............. I was at that Giants game. Even though we lost heartbreakingly, that game is more memorable than some of the others I saw that season or in 2004. Frank Thomas career hit #2000, a HR over my head in left field. Lost that game too unfortunately. Timo Perez runs a lap game. "COME ON TIMO, COME ON TIMO" even though the ball beat him and we lost the series to Cleveland it was very memorable. August 2003, Jarrod Washburn throws 6+ no-hit innings and leads 2-0 in the 7th. Robbie Alomar singles, Angels fan "IT'S JUST ONE HIT". Frank Thomas homers to right-center game tied, Angels fan stfu. Bottom 9, one on, Frank hits another 2 run bomb off Washburn into the bullpen and the Sox win 4-2. The night in 2003 we swept the Twins, I wasn't there but watching Paulie's HR in the 11th I think and Frank's in the 13th was too memorable to leave off this list. Some Mike Cameron walkoff magic against Anaheim and last home game of 2000 against KC are some other random memories.
