It's good to see we are a team that rewards a good performance. Josh Stewart definitely earned this one. I was a little disappointed about Joe B. being sent down but we seem to have an excess of outfielders right now.

I was at the game last night. A very solid performance by our young big-men. I wonder what we are gonna do with Jay Williams though. I figure alot of teams would pay an arm and a leg for a young guy with promise like him.

Actually even before this war, many Arab companies have come out with their own fast food chicken enterprises and their own soda companies to lower their dependence on western influence. Yeah gimme a crab juice over Mountain Dew any day. (Hypocritically I drink a Dew as I type this.)

An interview on MSNBC i believe showed Moore a bit regretful after his comments. Mostly I think it was because of bad timing as that was the same day a fairly large number of US troops were killed/captured in the battle at An Nasiriya.

Sportscenter had a special with Dibble called "Contender or Pretender" Dibbs had three contenders and two pretenders: Pretenders: Rangers Reds Contenders: Cubs Mets White Sox The funny part was there was an ESPN.com poll and they only picked one of these 5 teams as a contender..... The White Sox.

I'm liking the pitching turnaround lately.

In a bracket with Memphis and Mid-Major powerhouses Creighton and (usually) Gonzaga, I think you have to say the West has the most solid field. I don't know about Notre Dame being as good a 5 seed as Miss St. or UConn though. As far as Illinois' seeding goes: ESPN polls place Illinois above Syracuse, Marquette and Xavier with Duke being the only #3 seed ranked above us. AP Poll is a little different but both put us quite a bit above the other #4 seeds Dayton, Stanford and Louisville. I see Illinois as something like a #3.5 seed but they did put us in the bracket with Arizona, Kansas, and Duke which would seem to be the toughest 1-2-3 group in the tournament.

Franchise is sweet. Rule 5 draft, amateur draft, arbitration all that stuff. You can commit a certain amount of points to categories like coaching (helps your players improve more and faster), medical staff (come back from injuries faster), training (get injured less), etc. When you make the playoffs, you get more points to use on that stuff, so you are rewarded for winning. Also I think your budget to use on players gets bigger. You can do multiplayer trades, also involving minor leaguers, but the cpu doesn't let you rip them off. If they don't want a player, or they have a good one that doesn't make alot, they are less likely to make the trade. Wow a rare case of a video game company recognizing the shortcomings of their game and actually improving on them all by the next release. I found ASB 2003 to be severely lacking in the franchise mode. Navigating the statistics menus was also very tedious and the controls changed on different menus. I was pretty disappointed with the 2003 game. I'm hoping 2004 is worth my money but I am definitely renting this one first.

As far as I'm concerned Kenny Lofton was always a (|3utt) Pirate. Arrrrrr

yeah, perhaps i overstated myself saying "veteran leadership." Perhaps "veteran presence" would be more appropriate.

I think alot of these guys have something to prove this year. We have many outstanding individuals on this club but they have yet to show a really good effort as a team since 2000. The September hot-streak was a sign of things to come I believe. Young pitchers like MB and JG need to show they can followup on great years consistently. We have a star in Maggs that does not get half the national recognition he should and I think deep down inside he prolly has something to say about that too. We have Frank Thomas who has the veteran leadership we need to show these guys the ropes of a tough division race and the playoffs. Frank has been on losing playoff teams, now I think he wants to win. 3 games in 2000 was but a taste of what we should experience this year. Here's to a great season 2003 Chicago White Sox.

Let it be known: The Hurt is back.

Just imagine these guys pitching when it really counts. And when the air is a little thicker.

Rowand split his middle finger? I wonder how THAT happened?!? [/sarcasm]

Did the announcer just say the White Sox are "getting their uppity-ups again"?

We didn't bounce back from many Danny Wrong size deficits in the 2002 season. The only memorable one is that Cubs-Sox game at Comiskey last year. Konerko hittin those bombs... MAN WHY CANT THE SEASON START NOW!?!? 26 DAYS!?!
-
I think ability to bounce back from a slump is an important thing to look for in young players. We'll see how long Olivo is down. I personally think he's gonna get hot really soon. Maybe around March 31st or so...

Man Maggs is gonna be so awesome this season. JM said he looks better than he ever has before. oooh man i cant wait

Marquee matchup: Danny Wright vs. Curt Schilling. Let's bring it.

Have you ever noticed alot of good teams suck during spring training and then have an awesome year?? I say here's to the SUCKIEST spring training ever, maybe just a couple wins against the Scrubs who should have an AWESOME spring training.

Sorry one more historical note: Operation Torch (September 1942) The US is trying to gain a foothold in Africa to support Monty's boys in the East for a pincer attack on the vaunted Afrika Korps. An American force is preparing to land at Morocco when someone (guess who?) intervenes. It's the Vichy French Army and Navy. Anyways they didn't put up much of a fight in all instances and eventually joined the right side but how many people know that some 600 odd Americans were killed by French forces on purpose during this invasion in a war we were fighting to liberate their country?

I just want to say there are alot of things that I don't like: I don't like it when people die in fires. I'm not going to become a fireman. I don't like it when people get murdered. I'm not going to become a policeman. I don't like it when people die of cancer. I'm not going to become a doctor. I don't really like Saddam Hussein. I'm not going to join the army. Ok I've given 3 examples. Each gives an example of bad things happening to people followed by an occupation out to protect those people. The fourth example is the pro-war premise. Please stop telling everyone who is pro-war that they can't be unless they are in the army. There are anti-war people in the army and there are pro-war people not in the army. You do little to back up your argument when you attack other people's opinions, character, occupation and tell them they can't feel that way unless they follow up and join the army. That's all I want to say.

My favorite moments are when Hawk gets downright pissed about a bad call, someone blowing a save, or DJ saying something utterly moronic. See the old man is kind of a pout, and he just stops talking when he gets like that. This is when DJ has to "take over" and he tries to do play by play and interject himself with stories and such. It ends up being about 2 minutes of silence followed by random words from DJ that fall on deaf ears in the booth. Usually by the next commercial break, someone pulls the stick out of Hawk's ass and he starts talking again and everything is right with the world. Just listen closely to the silence the next time Hawk says "dagnabbit."

This article pretty much sums up my feelings about Darrin Jackson. But I admit he has made strides.
