  1. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Feb 18, 2016 -> 11:31 PM) They really don't. They also think they got a WAAAAAAY better pitcher than Shelby Miller. My best friend is a Dbacks fan. I gave him s*** relentlessly for it. He too claims it was a good move. Says the whole point is that they are better in 2016 for having made that trade, so the future pieces don't matter. Except, I don't even know that they ARE better in 2016 after the Miller trade.
  2. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Feb 15, 2016 -> 06:35 PM) It was said last month that the big one would be done by mid-February, then it changed to mid-March. The delay can't be a good sign I'm sure the sign will look fiiiiiiiiiiine.
  3. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Feb 15, 2016 -> 11:24 AM) Bah, I'll take Royals Review over the USA Today. But like SS2k5 said, if they win 90 games, everything goes right. Yeah, 90 wins means we hit our ZiPs projections AND some. And those are about as rosy as they are going to get.
  4. QUOTE (southside hitman @ Feb 15, 2016 -> 09:00 AM) http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/the-best-tr...016-off-season/ Fangraph's Dave Cameron ranked the ten transactions of the off-season he liked the most. The White Sox trade for Todd Frazier ranks second only behind the heist of the decade aka the Shelby Miller trade. And someone here though DC only bad-mouthed the Sox.
  5. QUOTE (glangon @ Feb 12, 2016 -> 02:58 AM) The Tigers are the most overrated team in baseball this year. 74 wins last year. According to Atlanta sports book, losing Cespedes, Price, Avila, Albaquirque, Simon, Rajai Davis, Ian Kroll, and Feliz and replacing them with Cespedes, Zimmerman, K-Rod, Justin Wilson, Mark Lowe, Saltamacchia, Mike Friggin Avila, Cameron Maybin and Mike Pelfrey That is not worth 11 wins. Cespedes is replaced like for like by Upton Zimmerman is not as good as Price Salty is not as good as Avila Pelfry and Simon are both as bad as each other Maybin is not as good as Davis (you lose speed on the bases) Lowe and Wilson are better than Al Albaquerque and Ian Kroll but then again La Roche and Leury Garcia pitched better than that pair. K-Rod is better than Feliz but not much. I would have said 3-4 wins better off due to the improved pen but not 11 wins. As for the Indians, they have them 3 wins better off, having Lindor for the season probably accounts for that. They have the Twins declining by 5.5 wins despite the emergence of Sano and Buxton They have the Royals declining by 6 wins, they believe that the loss of Cueto, Zobrist, Gallardo, Rios, Madsen and Holland. They feel that the addition of Kennedy and Soria accounts for the 6 win differential. I think that differential could be more. They have our Sox up by 4.5 wins which is possibly conservative when you think that Latos is replacing the Shark (who was awful) Frazier replaces a non-existant third base from last year and Lawrie replaces Sanchez at Second. It could be argued that that could read 82 wins. Half of those wins are just from positive regression (progression?). That team should have won more than 74 games.
  6. QUOTE (chw42 @ Feb 12, 2016 -> 10:44 PM) I didn't think Kanye can get any lazier with his album art after Yeezus and My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, but he managed to top himself with the cover for The Life of Pablo. Did someone make that s*** in Paint 20 minutes before they released the stream? Only heard the 2 songs from SNL and they are both pretty bad. At least Chance had a nice verse on the 2nd.
  7. New Macklemore and Ryan Lewis song "Spoons" is hilarious.
  8. I love the "drops from the bucket" we get. Our resident insider here at Soxtalk.
  9. QUOTE (hi8is @ Feb 11, 2016 -> 10:17 AM) Yea - Bobby Jenks looks pretty badass after losing all that weight. Looks younger in this picture too. Hum. Damn you! I was going to make a skinny Jenks reference too. Dead ringer right there.
  10. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Feb 11, 2016 -> 08:36 AM) Not sure where he got it from unless he accidentally double counted Garcia. Those 6 starters he listed did, believe it or not, make all 162 starts for the Sox that year. So the combined WAR of Sox starters was 18.6 in 2005. Accidentally used Fangraph's total from the entire pitching staff, instead of just the starters.
  11. .280 hitter....low OBP.....above average defense....tons of SB... You are basically talking about 2014 Jose Reyes or 2005 Jimmy Rollins. Had a 3.5 and 3.9 WAR season respectively... If Tim Anderson is a 3+ SS for us, we are going to be in pretty great shape. There were only 4 of those guys in baseball last season.
  12. QUOTE (raBBit @ Feb 11, 2016 -> 11:28 PM) Cuba falling to 20 is ridiculous to me. Torres, Contreras, McKinney, Cease, Almora and Happ have all appeared on top 100 lists. Even if the back end of their system sucks they have multiple marketable securities at the top of the system. Well once they lose Abreu, Puig, Cespedes, Chapman, Tomas, and Moncada, you had to figure they would slip behind Japan, Korea, Venezuela, and the bunch.
  13. I don't know if my ban from SouthSideSox forced me to have to sign up here, or if I had an account but didn't use it much until then. Either way, former head of SSS under the name "The Cheat" or "Da Cheat" pushed me here.
  14. QUOTE (LDF @ Feb 11, 2016 -> 01:23 AM) good enuf to win the WS and really hung in there for the Series games, against Hou. 05 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 16 Mark Buehrle ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Chris Sale Freddy Garcia ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Q Jon Garland ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Rodon Jose Contreras ~~~~~~~~~~~ Latos Orlando Hernandez ~~~~~~~~ Danks but for me, i think it was the pen that did it for the 05 team. they were lights out. For the Sabermetrically inclined..... 2005 SP WAR vs. 2016 SP *projected* WAR.... Buehrle (5.9) ------------ Sale (5.9) Garcia (4.0) ---------Quintana (3.6) Garland (3.5) ---------- Rodon (2.5) Contreras (3.4) ---- Latos/Johnson (1.8) Duque/BMac (1.8) ---Danks (0.8) 05 Staff (18.6)------2016 Staff (14.6) So yeah, that 2005 staff was extremely balanced, full over above-average to nearly all-star level talent 1 through 4. Although I do feel those projections are light on Quintana and Rodon. I think both are 0.5 or better in 2016. But, that was also the best staff in baseball in 2005. If you want to look at the latest WS Champion staffs... 2015 Royals - 7.5 2014 Giants - 8.7 2013 Red Sox - 12.4 2012 Giants - 11.3 2011 Cards - 12.5 So if you want to think about it this way, our 2016 projections, which I think are at least 1 WAR short, are still a few wins better than any recent champion. This is a championship caliber rotation. Just need the offense and defense to come through.
  15. QUOTE (southside hitman @ Feb 10, 2016 -> 02:54 PM) Yes. This afternoon. Weird.
  16. QUOTE (raBBit @ Feb 10, 2016 -> 01:55 PM) Everyone says Law hates the Sox and I think he's totally changed his tune since Hahn took over. Cameron on the other hand has never said anything positive about the Sox as far as my eyes have seen. 12:01 Joe: Who do you like better for the White Sox: Latos or Gallardo? 12:02 Dave Cameron: At the price Latos got, he’s a pretty clear pick, but I think it’s worth noting that in a market starved for pitching, no one else wanted the guy. I’m not a big believer in paying for chemistry, but when 29 teams decide they just don’t want this dude on their team, there’s a decent chance he’s a more destructive force than the typical “bad makeup” guy. 12:12 John: After seeing Latos only get $3 mil, what can you expect Lincecum to receive? 12:13 Dave Cameron: I’d bet he’ll get a low base/high incentive deal, maybe with some kind of vesting option for a second year. Latos’ price reflected Latos’ personality. Eldridge Cleaver: I feel like the White Sox have been trying to go from 90 losses to 90 wins for a few years now. Have they finally done enough to be in the wild-card discussion? 12:24 Dave Cameron: They still need another outfielder, a shortstop, and preferably one more starter. They’re up to .500ish, but they shouldn’t be done yet. He says good things about them during his weekly Fangraphs Audio podcast with Carson Cistulli.
  17. QUOTE (southside hitman @ Feb 10, 2016 -> 02:49 PM) "Eldridge Cleaver: I feel like the White Sox have been trying to go from 90 losses to 90 wins for a few years now. Have they finally done enough to be in the wild-card discussion? 12:24 Dave Cameron: They still need another outfielder, a shortstop, and preferably one more starter. They’re up to .500ish, but they shouldn’t be done yet." I was taken aback by the starter comment. Unless he believes Sox should just cut Danks, acquiring another starter makes no sense. When was this live chat done? After the Latos signing?
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 10, 2016 -> 02:25 PM) Which tells me his deal is done. Ben Badler ‏@BenBadler 59m59 minutes ago He was listed on the original roster, but Kevin Maitan is not in attendance here at the MLB international showcase. Keith Law says the Dodgers already signed him, just can't announce until July 2 passes. Could be why.
  19. What's funny is the Sox system was #12 last year, and people STILL insisted the Sox had an atrocious farm system. Imagine where we would have been ranked had we not traded our #3, #4, #5 potentially in the Frazier deal. Probably top 15.
  20. QUOTE (danman31 @ Feb 10, 2016 -> 11:32 AM) Finished Firewatch in a binge last night. I like it. I liked it more in the first couple parts, but then it got a bit weird in the second half. I still recommend it. It's different from most other games out there. I can't wait to see what this studio has next. Firewatch is worth playing, but flawed (both technically and in story). Finished it in one sitting? Damn, must not be that long. I only put in about 30 minutes last night. Still on day 1.
  21. Oh, and the Humble Bundle adding 2 more games to their Ubisoft package, it's now.... Call of Juarez: Gunslinger Grow Home Rayman Origins Far Cry 3 Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Blacklist Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: China Assassin's Creed Rogue The Crew PLUS Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon All for $15. In addition to FC3 being one of my top 3 favorite games on the PS3, Blood Dragon is the best DLC I've ever played, even better than Red Dead's Undead Nightmare.
  22. Firewatch released today! Got a 9.3 on IGN. I think I'm going to take a few days to knock that out and then go back to Just Cause 3.
  23. Another pretty unlikeable player, but could be a nice buy-low piece for Coop.
  24. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Feb 3, 2016 -> 08:02 AM) Snake the draft for non-playoff teams. Worst record picks 1st in odd rounds but 20th in even rounds. I like that much better than a lottery. Blah.
