How your smart phone has made you a Soxtalk junkie
ChiliIrishHammock24 replied to Jerksticks's topic in SLaM
Thats interesting because I almost never check the forums I contribute to on my phone. I don't like having to pinch zoom in and out of navigate the site. As far as I know, we don't have a mobile version of the site here, or at least my phone does not automatically redirect to it, so I only check here through my phone if some major Sox news happens and I am at work on my break. -
QUOTE (LDF @ Jan 26, 2015 -> 05:51 PM) oh man that is old school and what a great memorable piece for history.... to show any one kids. i got to give you credit for have the due diligence to do that, and to save them. If physical tickets actually exist by the time I had kids, I am definitely going to keep that tradition going. It's fun to look back and see what milestone games I was at. At the time, you never know if being at a player's first major league hit, home run, win, will ever matter until 10-15 years later. Attending "Alex Cintron's 1st career grand slam" doesn't mean a whole lot in 2015. lol.

QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Jan 26, 2015 -> 03:53 PM) Sox pulling out stops to bump attendance http://t.co/hjEmvgGGib https://twitter.com/ESPNChiSox/status/559790322784292864 Maybe I understood this incorrectly because I skimmed the article, but tickets are all digital now? That sucks. It's a tradition for my Dad and I to keep out ticket stubs and write down anything memorable that happened during the game on the back of the ticket. I have a few of those computer printed tickets, and they just look cheap and don't fit nicely with all the regular sized tickets. Also, I have my ticket from Buehrle's no-hitter framed and I think that frame would look awfully dumb with a computer printed ticket behind the class.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 26, 2015 -> 05:14 PM) You're too addicted to this show if you remember their baby's name. God, Jody was/is annoying. And that would bring out even more annoying aspects of Joan Cusack. BTW, which girl is Lip going to go after (albeit it's supposed to be a summer romance)? I highly doubt that he'll go to Miami, but stranger things have happened. How long will this new music/band guy last with Fiona? Guys with Zack G.ish style beards don't tend to last long on shows. Well, my niece and nephew both have Down Syndrome, so needless to say I felt more attached to the baby more than most viewers probably did.

I thought last night's episode was Shameless was great. Easily the best of the season so far. The house exploding was far too predictable, but I guess it gives reason for Jody/Karen/Jamie to come back on the show at some point when Sheila picks them up from California.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 26, 2015 -> 07:50 AM) Jeff Samardzija has lost some endurance... Jeff Samardzija has lost some control... Jeff Smaardzija has lost some stuff... Jeff Samardzija has lost some movement... OOTP 6 gamers will get it. My how I hated the drops. Yeah, Samardzija has certainly declined in my game. But no one declined as much as Alexei did. He went from like 4 stars to 2 stars by the seasons end. I just traded him and a top prospect to Seattle for Kyle Seager though. And then I traded Matt Davidson to the Cardinals for Kolten Wong. My team is dope.

QUOTE (knightni @ Jan 25, 2015 -> 07:39 AM) He was also never a QB or in the bullpen. He was in the bullpen for the Cubs, but my point of included it was.... who the hell cares? He's not a reliever anymore, and went on to be a really solid starter for them. That's like saying "You were a bum in AA!!". Lol, who cares what happened in AA, he's been promoted. The QB thing was especially bad.

New MLB Commish suggests ban on shifts
ChiliIrishHammock24 replied to southsider2k5's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 25, 2015 -> 11:12 PM) It would be one way to increase runs scored without changing too much. Without PEDs and home runs down, the ,league will need to do something to increase runs scored. The average fan likes higher scoring games. Exactly what I was coming to post. They want to increase scoring, and this is far less drastic than lowering the mounds or changing the baseballs or bats. Although, those changes probably wouldn't even be noticed by the average fan either. I don't really mind if they eliminate shifts. It will make the game more exciting for those casual fans who think games can be boring. Another positive would be it will help with defensive metrics because the thought now is that some shifts more hurt or help players unfairly in the defensive systems due to them being out of position. Keep shifts or get rid of them, I won't really be affected either way. -

As much as some people hate that the MLB All-Star game counts, I think it's the best thing Bud has done with the all-star game over his tenure. The MLB ASG is easily the most entertaining one to watch. It's the only one where the players are trying and we actually get to see what a team looks like with the best collection of athletes in their respective sports. -
QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Jan 24, 2015 -> 06:29 PM) Based on some of the comments I saw, they hate the guy now lol hope he beats them when he faces them! (Like what he did to the sox at the cell lol) Check out the comments section of Facebook on CSN Chicago's stories on that quote and the quote about letting Rizzo talk all he wants. Cubs fans were spewing crazy venom for Jeff over that. Comments that included "he was a terrible QB, and now he's a terrible pitcher", and "You sucked when you were in the bullpen you bum, and "You are not worth that big contract you signed with the Sox". Northside's finest.

The Skills Competition featured BY FAR the worst breakaway challenge I've ever seen. Very little creativity, the only props used were dumb, the tricks were lame, half the time the guys never even completed a trick or even shot the puck. It was so embarrassing. The rest was pretty solid though. Weber going 108.5 MPH, holy s*** sticks are becoming insanely advanced. -
QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Jan 24, 2015 -> 02:55 PM) Do you know if the torrents allow you to use the game in an online league? Id imagine it might have issues using a pirated version. I'm not sure, I haven't tried to do an online league yet.

Your 2015 Top 25 White Sox Prospects

That's probably my exact top 7. I think I'd put Aldofo and Sanburn in the backend instead of Sanchez and Davidson. -
QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Jan 24, 2015 -> 02:28 PM) bighurt wins, hes fast. Lol, I guess that means he never figured out how to use the torrent that he downloaded.

QUOTE (LDF @ Jan 24, 2015 -> 10:13 AM) they should be freaking happy the fans of the hawks are coming to the games. it helps sell tickets and bring in the hype. what the fvck Yeah, and out of towners bring out of town money and it helps their economy, I agree. But I guess none of that is worth having a large portion of the crowd root for the other team for them to handle. lol. It's pretty dumb in my opinion. -
I know you guys are on pins and needles about my OOTP season, so here's how the 2015 White Sox REAL season will play out exactly. Take these results to Vegas.... Despite a ton of injuries, the team managed to win 92 games and win the AL Central! Tigers finished 2nd w/ 90, Royals finished 3rd. - Chris Sale led the staff with 21 wins, 2.87 ERA, 291 K in 244 IP. 8.3 WAR and 133 ERA+. - Rodon pitched 136 innings after his callup in June. Won 8 games with a 2.90 ERA, 142 K and 4.5 WAR and 132 ERA+. - Samardzija had a lot of injuries, only winning 9 games with a solid 3.25 ERA. 129 K in 124 IP. He had a 4.0 WAR and 117 ERA+. - Quintana was not good, Erik Johnson actually pitched really well before sucking at the end, Hector Noesi's numbers weren't great, but he had the biggest improvement of any player in the organization, improving his "potential" rating from 2 stars to 3.5 stars while adding a screwball and improving almost every attribute by a large margin. May have to be my #5 guy next season. - Oh yeah, and I traded Danks at the trade deadline with a couple random minor leaguers to Arizona for C Alex Jackson. Trade raped. Oh yeah, and Robertson got 47 saves with a 3.23 ERA and a 2 WAR. - Abreu missed a month with injury, but in 131 games he hit 37 HR, 103 RBI, batted .299 with a .950 OPS and a 5.3 WAR. - Eaton also only played 131 games, but hit .291 and somehow managed to slug 9 HR. He also stole 35 bases and had a .372 OBP. - Melky was awesome in 137 games. He hit .288 with 25 HR, 84 RBI, and stole 14 bases. He had a 3.7 WAR. - I traded Flowers and others and got Yan Gomes. But Yan only played 89 games due to injuries and the backup catcher coming out of NO WHERE to steal the starting job away. Gomes hit 11 HR and a .275 AVG. - Backup catcher ROB BRANTLY of all people played 138 games and hit .282 with 12 HR. Almost an .800 OPS. WHAT?!?! - Avi Garcia was solid in 134 games. Hit .273 with 21 HR and a 1.7 WAR. - LaRoche was alright. Hit 23 HR, but batted .235 and struck out 131 times. - 2B was a hodgepodge of Bonifacio before he got hurt, then Micah Johnson who kept getting hurt, then Carlos Sanchez whom was bad, and then Saladino. Overall, Micah was the best only playing in 75 games but hitting 9 HR, stealing 24 bags, and batting .258. He actually won ROTM in June. - And here's a giant surprise that will never happen....Matt Davidson played 158 games....but he was bad. Hit 16 HR, but batted .219 and led the team with 176 Ks. - Oh and here's another weird surprise. Abreu and LaRoche and Wilkins were all injured at the same time, so I had to bring up Dan Black to play 1B because he raked in the spring. Well Daniel went on to with ROTM honors in that time he was filling in. lol. Hit 6 HR, 25 RBI, and batted .242. Not bad. Oh yeah, and my draft was a disaster. I drafted Daz Cameron and some other tough HS sign for my first 2 picks. I ended up failing to sign either one of them because I was offering well below their asking prices, yet still above slot. Each time they denied the deal, I would split the difference, hoping to sign them, but trying to save every penny. Well after the 3rd offer I made, they both said f*** me and decided to go to college. So then I decided to throw all my pool money at later round HS picks, and I actually offered them all a little ABOVE their asking prices, and they all said no. So I think I ended up signing 3 of my 10 picks. After that disaster I decided to go nuts on the Int'l signing period and I grabbed like 5 of the top 6 guys. I missed out on the #1 guy who went to Seattle. Bastards. Off to the playoffs in tomorrow's sim.

And now I feel better about Better Call Saul. http://www.ign.com/videos/2015/01/23/bette...m_medium=social Love the post-Breaking Bad Saul timelines. Also, I think one of the Breaking Bad tie-ins could be Emilio, Walt's first kill. When Jesse brings Walt to Saul Goodman's office to discuss getting Badger off the hook, Jesse mentions that Saul got his boy Emilio off twice before when the feds had him dead to rights. Another character Saul knows prior to the Breaking Bad era is "Jimmy in-and-out" the bald old guy who goes to jail on purpose to help others off the hook. Both of these guys may come in to play at some point. Krazy-8 could be another guy, since he's Emilio's cousin.

Holy injuries batman. Somehow we are 30-21 on the season despite injuries to Abreu (4 weeks), Samardzija (7 weeks), Quintana (2 weeks), Eaton (6 weeks), Jennings (14 months), Bonafacio (33 months....uh...ok), Micah Johnson, Noesi, Axelrod, and I also had a 9 game suspension from John Danks for fighting Miggy. lol. After Shark and Q were both injured at the same time, I finally gave in and called up Rodon, who in 85 innings between AA and AAA, had 115 K and a 4 WAR in only 11 starts. He's making his debut right now. Oh, and draft day came around. I had the 12th pick and took Daz Cameron, although he wants 3x his slot money. So I took a bunch of college players and they all signed for underslot, so hopefully I can bring Daz in, even though he's listed as an "extremely hard" sign.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 23, 2015 -> 04:31 PM) I totally thought the game was in Chicago. $155 in St Louis? Holy s*** x 5. They don't even sell out consistently. Nashville and St. Louis do their "Keep the Red Out" campaigns to stop Hawks fans from attending games, so the only way for Hawks fans to get tickets are through Stubhub and other 3rd party vendors, so the tickets are always through the nose. Just for comparison sake, the Blues play the Penquins at home a couple weeks later, another premiere team, and the tickets are in the $70-80 range for the same seats I just bought. -

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 23, 2015 -> 03:29 PM) Holy s***. My upper level corner season tickets cost $42 a game. They jack the prices up when the Hawks come to town, as you'd expect. Those were the cheapest tickets available.
