2014-2015 NFL Football thread

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jan 12, 2015 -> 08:05 AM) This. I keep hearing "awful call to end a great game". If Dallas scores, the Packers would of had 3 minutes to get in field goal range. Aaron Rodgers was 10-10 in the 4th quarter. After that play was reversed the Packers took the ball and drove sixty yards in less then two minutes. All while taking their time. .....It was an awful call to end a great game, even if Rodgers comes back and the Packers win. I don't think there is a guarantee the Cowboys win that game if they get the call, but it doesn't change the fact that it would have been a much better ending than the game ending right after an awful call. -

QUOTE (Middle Buffalo @ Jan 11, 2015 -> 04:24 PM) All Dez had to do was catch he ball. He did not need to stretch for a TD. In stretching for a TD, the ball was jarred loose by the ground. Good call. I'll add that I was rooting for Dallas, but Dez routinely acts like an idiot, so I'm not surprised he isn't smart enough to know that the situation called for a catch, not a TD. You just contradicted yourself. By "Stretching for the TD" he is making a football move. At that point, it's ruled a catch. According to the reversal, he never showed he had possession, he never stretched or reached for the endzone. And that's horses***. I've seen the replay 100 times now. He is absolutely turning his arm up towards the goalline. If he was just trying to catch the ball, he would have tucked it, not extended outward. Horrible call to end a great game. The NFL is a f***ing joke with some of these calls and rules. For all the Lions fans who said that the horrible call last week ended their season, they've got nothing on this call, as the Cowboys never possessed the ball again, and were losing. Lions were winning and had 2 more possessions. While both were bad calls, one team had good chance to make the call irrelevant. The other team is the Cowboys. And the Cowboys had a damn good chance to win the Superbowl as well. They have beaten 2 of the 3 opponents possibly advancing already this season. -

So I went to a bull riding event tonight at the All-State Arena because we were given chute seats, which are right above where the bulls are let loose. I mean, I could have dropped my phone on a bull's head. I could have given the riders a high-5, we were super f***ing close. Anyway, the event itself was cool and seeing a bull throw not only a rodeo clown, but then turn around and chase down the HORSE, flipping the back end of the horse too. It was crazy. Anyway, we got to go down on the dirt afterwards, or maybe we just snuck down, and not only did I get to meet Barry Weiss from Storage Wars who apparently sponsors a rider, but I also got to meet Jared Allen. The man is just gigantic, and I'm a big dude myself. He was super nice and he actually just hung out with about 100 of us down on the dirt. He just stood there and chatted with his buddies and was just a normal person after a few people like myself who recognized him got pictures. Kind of surreal, I have met some athletes before, but most of those were them trying to get somewhere and moving along. This was Jared just shaking my hand, saying hi, getting a picture, and then we both just turned and talked to our groups for another 15 minutes. It was weird not seeing an athlete swarmed by fans. He was just a regular dude. -
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 9, 2015 -> 10:30 PM) I predict we have a better record than they do I plan on making a lot of bets with Cubs fans on this. I think the Sox are 10-15 games better than the Cubs, but their hype is so massive right now, I'd bet I can even get a lot of non-Cubs fans to take me up on this.

I saw Foxcatcher tonight. Thought it was really boring. I wouldn't say it was bad, because it had some awesome acting in it, especially by Steve Carrell, but I had a hard time staying engaged.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jan 9, 2015 -> 05:59 PM) Just wrapped up Lilyhammer, fantastic show that somehow finds it's balance between English and subtitles. Really glad I stuck with it. I think I watched the first 2 or 3 episodes a couple years ago when it debuted.

Official NHL 2014-15 Thread

QUOTE (TheTruth05 @ Jan 9, 2015 -> 07:47 AM) Seabrook got lucky last night not getting it worse with that blade to the face. NHL should mandate visors on players helmets imo IIRC, as of a couple years ago, all players entering the league have to wear visors. Veterans are grandfathered in. -
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 9, 2015 -> 12:36 PM) I'm not buying into Hendricks yet, and I want to see Arrieta continue to pitch well, but there's plenty of talent there anyways. Predicting them to win the World Series, however, is mere click bait or shock journalism. No one in their right mind should be predicting them to win the World Series. Right. It's just an attention getter. Gun to their heads, no one there picks the Cubs over the Nationals/Cardinals/Dodgers to come out of the NL.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 9, 2015 -> 06:10 AM) If you got that far, you should at least see the end I was planning on it, and I did. The ending helped wrap up some of the confusing parts, and then I watched some reviews on the movie to clarify other things. Like I knew the lady at the end on the plan was significant, I just couldn't remember who she was, then a reviewer pointed out she was a scientist from the future. Makes sense now. But here's a confusing part I never had answered. Why did he originally see Brad Pitt's character in his dream as the guy with the gun? He was reliving everything, and all the other details seemed to have lined up. I feel like that was just done to confuse the audience in to thinking Brad Pitt was the bad guy. Another thing. How can Bruce Willis' character see an older version of himself do these things the first time through? Unless maybe his memory as a kid can change? Time travel movies always run in to these weird paradoxes, I guess. It sounds like the TV show will be a little more clear though.

If you could play for 3 teams...
ChiliIrishHammock24 replied to soxfan49's topic in The Diamond Club
Top 3..... 1) White Sox - Obviously 2) Diamondbacks - Arizona is my dream destination, plus the ball park is nice 3) Padres - Oh hey, perfect weather Bottom 3..... 30) Red Sox - Vehemently hate them, and all Boston sports really 29) Tigers - Can't see being a rival to my favorite team 28) Cubs - Don't hate the Cubs, just can't see myself playing for a rival -
Internet went out with 30 minutes left, so I haven't finished yet, but 12 Monkeys is a very strange movie. I don't think I love it nearly as much as you guys seem to. It is just far too weird.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 8, 2015 -> 04:26 PM) Lmao. It is really awesome, another one of Terry Gilliams mind benders. Not sure how it will translate to a series given how the movie turned out, but I will give it a shot I haven't seen the movie yet, but they said in the podcast that the movie lets the audience decide if he's really a time traveler, or just insane. Whereas the tv show says in the first minutes of the show that he can time travel and there is no ambiguity

QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 8, 2015 -> 04:24 PM) It's a 90s movie and it's awesome. Oh you're right, 95, not 85.

Trailer - Premiers next Friday. The reviewers said it takes until about episode 3 or 4 to really take off.

Anyone hear about the new Sci-fy show called 12 Monkeys? I had heard of it, but I didn't know it was based off an old Bruce Willis/Brad Pitt movie from the 80s. I was listening to IGN's Channel Surfing podcast and they were raving about how good the first 7 episodes of the show are. Made it seem like it may be the best new show in a while. I'm going to watch the movie today, but it sounds pretty interesting.

QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 8, 2015 -> 11:29 AM) Saw that clip awhile ago. Can't wait. When I saw that clip last month, it actually made me cringe a little. Felt too "sitcom"ish with the way Jimmy flops around like an idiot and Mike rolls his eyes. I've liked the other clips much better.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jan 7, 2015 -> 08:21 PM) This video is a 2015 season preview for the Sox which should get everybody even more pumped up about the upcoming season. It features offensive, defensive and pitching highlights of LaRoche, Melky, Samardzija, Robertson and Duke. Same for Sale, Abreu, Alexei, Quintana, Eaton, Conor, Flowers, Avisail and the drafting of Carlos Rodon. The music is louder than Hawk on the highlights and other video footage but some of you may prefer that. It's 20 minutes long but a fun watch. Thanks for the video. I watched it all, except for the Danks "highlights" of course. -

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jan 7, 2015 -> 09:48 PM) Sometimes I will address my parents as "kids" Me too, but I do it just because it's nails on the chalkboard, like when I call them by their first names just to f*** around. -

QUOTE (LDF @ Jan 6, 2015 -> 06:19 AM) i think you just found the perfect nickname for him. Can there be 2 Rats in one town though? Maybe the different sports help. -
Anyone else watch Bates Motel? I finally got around to watching Psycho, because I wanted to see it before I started Bates Motel, and I must say, it's quite entertaining. A little heavy handed and cliche at times, but it's super interesting in my opinion. And each damn episode ends with a twist or a cliffhanger, so I have a feeling I am going to finish S1 in the next couple days.

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jan 6, 2015 -> 12:46 PM) I was there for the whole thing and remember none of it. Home Opener v cub game is a no brainer. 37K die hards v 5K die hards. I'll take the home opener every day and twice on Tuesday. Yeah, I'll pretty certain they Sox have never drawn 5,000 for a Sox/Cubs game. I'd be surprised if they have drawn under 15K, and I would expect about 25K or more on weekend series games. I'm not saying Opening Day games suck, I'm just saying if it's not Sale or Samardzija or Q pitching, then I'm going to have much less interest in actually attending in person. If this was game #10 of the season and Sale was pitching, I would choose that over a Cubs/Sox game. But I honestly have no desire to see Danks/Noesi pitch.

QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jan 6, 2015 -> 09:26 PM) Funny to see Tyler Danish talking about someone two years his senior as "just a great kid". I thought the same thing. -
I've been watching my Breaking Bad barrel blu-rays each night before bed. It's really odd seeing the behind the scenes stuff from the early seasons when Bryan Cranston still has hair, Jesse is a skinny looking punk that acts nervous on camera, and Vince Gilligan doesn't have a mustache. Some really great content though. It's crazy how much work those set designers put in to scenes that only last 20-30 seconds on air. Bryan Cranston seems like one of the most down to Earth actors I can imagine. He is constantly joking and keeping it light and is having fun. It seems like that would have been an amazing fun crew to work on. Also, a funny tidbit I learned was that Bob Odenkirk didn't even watch a single episode of Breaking Bad until like season 4 or something. He was on for 2 seasons and had no idea who these characters were. He said he would act a scene in a completely wrong tone at times because he didn't know if a guy was good or bad. He said something like "I was able to put together that this Gus guy I was always talking about did some bad things." lol. His character is the one who introduced Gus to the show! He said Cranston used to always bust his balls saying "Still haven't watched the show yet, huh Bob?". Kind of ironic the actor who seemed least interested in the show he was working on gets the lead in the spinoff.

I get the feeling that Adam Eaton is going to be there with all the rookies because he kept pestering Steverson about wanting to go, and Todd finally said okay to shut him up. Lol. He seems like the baseball rat that just wants to be around baseball 24/7.
