2013-2014 NFL Thread
ChiliIrishHammock24 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Chris Collinsworth loves superlatives and microcosms. Everything is the greatest, most impressive, craziest, etc. thing he has ever seen. And there are 5-6 plays a night that represent a team/game/season/franchise/reputation perfectly. That f*** is so annoying. -

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Dec 22, 2013 -> 10:13 PM) NFL got to keep that eagles/cowboys matchup looking good............BS call. I don't understand what the Eagles/Cowboys has to do with this game, but it looked like the right call to me. -
QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Dec 22, 2013 -> 10:10 PM) Guys like Veal or Molina that show NO promise are fair value for a 22 yo catcher? Again, these guys won't even make the roster of a team that's rebuilding so why would a contender like the Yanks be interested? They wouldn't. I never suggested a trade of Veal or Molina for Murphy, at any point, ever. I said Molina AND Gillaspie, and I said if we were to offer them anyone from our bullpen, then give them Veal, because no one else is worth throwing away on the chance at Murphy becomes a good prospect.
-
QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Dec 22, 2013 -> 10:04 PM) Or Murphy for guys nobody wants... I don't think that shows we are starved for a catcher at all. Being starved means you overpay, not provide fair value.
-
QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Dec 22, 2013 -> 10:02 PM) You're right, neither of us know. What I like is that he's only 22 and shows some promise, not that he's a sure bet by any means. I think we can agree there are other options we would both prefer, Rosario and Grandel are the first that come to mind. His age is all he has going for him, and is the only reason he is still considered a prospect.
-
QUOTE (daggins @ Dec 22, 2013 -> 09:58 PM) We must really be starved for rumors if a single tiny blurb about one of probably many possibilities is causing this much fervor. And starved for a catcher so badly that people want JR Murphy for Nate Jones.
-
QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Dec 22, 2013 -> 09:17 PM) So at only 22 years old Murphy will never develope into anything? Really? Good grief the kid is still a developing prospect at a position that is known for taking longer to develope and you say he won't amount to anything? Please explain how you can possibly know this. I don't know that he won't be very good, and you don't know that he will. I just don't see any reason to trade for him, other than to just throw a whole bunch of catchers at the wall and see who sticks.
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 22, 2013 -> 08:46 PM) Jeff Marquez had 10X the value of Nestor Molina now when he was traded for Swisher. I'm not sure why Molina would interest them when he hasn't been mentioned by a single poster here in our pitching plans for the future. Now if you want to trade them Semien, that's who they are going to ask for...that might be the end of the conversation, they might be offered Carlos Sanchez instead, but one player who won't start for the White Sox and a starting pitcher who will never sniff the big leagues isn't going to be very enticing. Nestor Molina will never sniff the big leagues for the White Sox the same way J.R. Murphy will never sniff the big leagues for the Yankees. Both are useless to their organizations, of course Murphy could actually serve as a backup for some other team for a couple years. J.R. Murphy is not very good, I don't know why anyone would give up anything of value for him. I'd rather have Phegley and Nieto.
-
If the Sox want to trade for a good catcher named Murphy, it should be Tom Murphy, not J.R.
-
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 22, 2013 -> 08:24 PM) So they should trade a top 15-20 prospect for Donnie f***ing Veal?? No, they shouldn't. They should trade him for Gillaspie and Molina. If you read my comment, I said if you were talking about anybody in the bullpen, give them Donnie Veal, because he's the only guy I'd give up for Murphy.
-
QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Dec 22, 2013 -> 08:06 PM) Lol, Murphy has more value than that. Come on now. You're not getting Murphy for a scrub, simple as that. Tell me why we shouldn't? In what world does Murphy ever have a chance at making the Yankees roster?
-
QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Dec 22, 2013 -> 07:57 PM) It might take a guy like Nate Jones to grab Murphy, which I'd be fine with. Hell no, I'd never do that deal, not in a million years. Give them Veal for Murphy if you want to move a bullpen guy.
-
Murphy would be highly expendable considering they have McCann and Romine and Sanchez in front of him. I could see a Murphy-Gillaspie swap. Or maybe Gillaspie + Molina.

Tony Romo, proving once again to be one of the most clutch QBs in football. Another 4th quarter comeback for him, another great drive when within a TD, another week where no one cares. -

JJ Wilcox you f***ing s***sipping mouthbreather. Die in a fire. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 22, 2013 -> 03:49 PM) If he can't pass a physical with other teams why would we think he could with us? Because the Orioles have a very strict physical procedure.

Sox agree to 1 yr deal with Scott Downs

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Dec 22, 2013 -> 12:59 PM) Not that this is what I want to turn this thread into but are they both from the same family? Like did your brother or sister happen to have 2 children with Down Syndrome or is it different parents? Just curious because you don't see it that often. Yep, the only 2 kids they had together. It's extremely rare and concerns my other brother and myself that we may carry the gene for it, which is even more rare, but would explain my eldest brother. -
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Dec 21, 2013 -> 03:37 PM) I hope he has a great season so that he goes #2. That would ensure that the Sox could draft Jeff Hoffman. Talk about a nasty rotation. Yeah, that sounds perfect.

I make Apple Pie shots and apparently it tastes good hot. I've yet to ever try it though.

What should the White Sox do at closer?
ChiliIrishHammock24 replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (chisoxfan310 @ Dec 22, 2013 -> 12:28 AM) Love the idea of making Jones a closer this year and hoping we could flip him in either June/July or next year at this time for another near-ready MLB top 100 prospect. Thanks. I give Balta half the credit for that one. -

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Dec 21, 2013 -> 03:08 PM) Ehh. I am a Special Education teacher and I'm not really offended. It is what it is though. My niece and nephew both have Downs Syndrome, so I didn't like it. But I'm not a mod here and I am not going to report it either. I can't force people to not make jokes about mentally challenged people, only distance myself from them. -

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 21, 2013 -> 01:55 PM) Boras lost him 10 million bucks No state income tax in Texas. I don't think Boras lost him anything. -
My dad gets the 17 Seconds Blu-ray, my mom gets a Patrick Sharp jersey and still need to figure out something for her birthday that was back on Dec. 4th. I was away at school until last weekend, so that's my excuse for the tardiness. My niece gets some sort of "little people" toy thing, and my nephew gets a plastic baseball bat, ball, and tee. My brothers don't get each other anything, so that's helpful.
