  1. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 29, 2013 -> 12:57 PM) "Saving Mr. Banks" was a surprisingly excellent film. Sometimes it's nice to just see an enjoyable flick, though it earns its PG-13 rating with some extremely dark (and real) subject matter. EDIT: Oh, and JCM, anyone who cares to illegally download movies can find out for themselves if there's "DVD quality" screeners available. I don't think it's fitting discussion for the films thread. If you watch any of them, go ahead and talk about them. Anyone can torrent movies and you're not cool or original for doing so yourself. I don't know how letting people know what movies are available online now is trying to sound "cool" in any way. That's just stupid. I'm being helpful. You are better than me, so just ignore it and let others enjoy it. Anyway, American Hustle is now up as well.
  2. QUOTE (chw42 @ Dec 29, 2013 -> 11:20 PM) Hahahaha, no Romo, no problem. The Cowboys choke again. Everything was setup for them to drive down the field and kick a game winning FG. Of course, they screw it up. Cowboys choke again? The Cowboys don't choke, only Romo chokes, duh.
  3. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 24, 2013 -> 03:18 PM) I have no idea where else to put this, but how on earth did I never hear of Jason Neighborgall? http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/p...id=neighb001jas 13 HBP, 59 Wild pitches and 128 walks in 42 pro innings. Oh my f***ing god. In his last inning ever he walked 12 batters, hit 3 of them, threw 9 wild pitches, and allowed 12 ER. LOL, where the f*** was his manager?
  4. Saving Mr. Banks and The Hobbit 2 are now found online in DVD quality.
  5. Breaking Bad marathon until the end of the year. Got filthy drunk at a party lasted night, and the party ended with everyone passed out watching the BrBa marathon. Woke up hungover, watched a few more episodes, ate some greasy food, and am now continuing to watch the marathon. This show will never get old. I've now seen the first couple seasons at least 7 times.
  6. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Dec 27, 2013 -> 06:31 PM) Nautica Voyage is my daily go to cologne, really cheap on amazon but gives a nice fragrance that doesn't overwhelm. I get a lot of compliments on it. The other cologne I prefer is HeWood Dsquared2, it's a bit heavier and better for the winter months, but I use it much more sparingly. Nautica Voyage is exactly what I use too! Been using it for probably 5-6 years now, and I get compliments on it constantly. I started on Nautica Blue, then Nautica Competition, now it's been Voyage ever since. Went to the Lighthouse Mall in Michigan City yesterday with my cousins and tried to convince my little cousin to start wearing cologne. He was a fan of the Nautica Blue, mainly because I told him I wouldn't allow him to get Voyage and steal my scent.
  7. I wish we had a thread about what we think Hahn's Next Move might be, then we could all figure it out together.
  8. I think JLaw can be hot at times, but she seems more cool and fun than some slampiece. I'd love to be friends with her either way.
  9. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Dec 26, 2013 -> 03:04 PM) I wanna play the new Assassin's Creed game, do I need to play any over the other games first or can I just jump in and figure it out? I got about 20% in to the game, and they really haven't referred back to the old games in the storyline so far. But I am sure there are either Youtube videos or a wiki page somewhere with a synopsis of the storyline as it goes. This game probably feels the least connected maybe because the secondary main character, Desmond, who exists in the present day parts of the game, dies at the end of AC3. In AC4 you appear to be a new, faceless (and maybe nameless?) character. Again, I'm only 20% through though, so maybe his storyline fleshes out more.
  10. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Dec 26, 2013 -> 07:51 AM) Never much bought into the chemistry thing in baseball. Don't care if the team gets along. It's such an individual sport that I don't think it matters. My opinion is forged by the early days of my fandom in the '70's. The dynasties of that era, A's then Reds then Yanks, we're full of players that couldn't stand one another. I think chemistry helps teams that aren't talented enough to be better. I don't think it will ever stop a highly talented team from being bad, and I don't think it would ever make a really bad team good, but I think it can boost an average team with low expectations in to being a playoff team when everyone has fun and loves playing with each other.
  11. Family theater movie this Xmas was Saving Mr. Banks. Was a really good movie. Tom Hanks and Emma Thompson (I think?) were really great in it. Supporting cast of Colin Ferrell (had no idea he was in it) and Paul Giamatti (sp?) were great too. I didn't expect the movie to be so emotional, but it was a real good one. I had no idea of the story behind Mary Poppins, especially that it was not only NOT supposed to be a musical, but the woman who wrote the book didn't write any of the songs for it either. All I remember about Mary Poppins is the songs. Really good movie, but if you are a crier, you will definitely cry. I managed to hold back, but I took a few deep breaths during it.
  12. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Dec 26, 2013 -> 02:13 AM) What kind of position are you looking for? I spent the last two summers working in baseball. My major is Journalism and Telecommunications, but I ultimately want to work in a front office. I've been applying to jobs for video production, like editing and logging video, social media, baseball operations.
  13. He is a 23-year-old OF/DH. Here is a video of him hitting a moonshot in the WBC this year.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ltJjQ-iTj2c Here is a video of him and a bunch of other Cuban players. Interestingly enough, the video is bookended by Jose Abreu and Yasmani Tomas highlights. Tomas hits a couple HR at 6:12 in the video. He is #24, and the second video (last one of the whole clip) is just a BOMB to left field. Looked like a homerun derby shot, wow. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-0oBLjZ1vts
  14. Spent a solid 90 minutes tonight at my aunt's house with my brother trying to figure out how to get a Go Pro video we shot on to her Smart TV. We ended up sending the video wirelessly to my phone, and then tried to connect my LG phone to her LG TV through the app that goes along with it. Couldn't get it to work. Tried to find some apps on her TV, couldn't find anything good. Then we even physically connected my phone to her TV through a USB, but the TV would only recognize my images, not any videos. After all this time I finally decided, f*** it, I was just going to upload the video to Youtube and then pull up Youtube on her TV. When I went to hit the "Share" button on my phone, I noticed one of my options was "beam", and I just clicked it, scanned and connected to the TV, and boom. Video playback. Son of a b****. Took 90 minutes and downloaded like 4 apps, and all I had to do was look at my "share" options. FFffffffffffffffffffff.
  15. QUOTE (dasox24 @ Dec 25, 2013 -> 10:48 AM) One thing to keep in mind: Even though organizations put a certain # of years of experience in the job description, it can still be worth it to apply. If you have any other experiences or things that you think could be a replacement for that, you can bring that up. Or if not, but you just think you're great for the job, it might be worth a shot to apply anyway. They might toss your resume as soon as they see the lack of experience, but then again, if no one else that applied has that type of experience, then they really can't throw away your resume. They'll have to give it a look. It seems that more and more companies are going with the "best possible candidate" route in their description, but they don't always get this preferred candidate to apply (or if they do, that candidate might not end up accepting the job). Then they have to re-evaluate their choices and if no one else fits exactly what they said they wanted, then you might get pulled into the discussion. I just worry about the employer saying "Can he not read? It said 3-7 years, and he has NO experience. Must have trouble following directions." I probably do need to be more lenient with fitting the qualifications though because I generally don't apply unless I fit every criteria and every skill expected of me is something I possess. I just don't want to be put in a situation where I applied for a job where basic coding is required and I have no clue how to do it. I like to be very prepared for things.
  16. QUOTE (ptatc @ Dec 25, 2013 -> 12:42 PM) Welcome to the world of professional sports. I did the same thing working my way up the minor league baseball medical staff chain. Although the Mexican league was a lot of fun. The nice thing is the organization tend to be very loyal so if you stick with it, you do get opportunities fairly quickly. If it's really what you want to do go for it and it will be worth it. That's exactly what I want to do, start in minor leagues and work up. I mean, I would take a job with a major league club, but it's not a goal I expect to achieve with my first job. I don't think I can do Mexican leagues though.
  17. QUOTE (Brian @ Dec 25, 2013 -> 10:04 AM) Did you intern anywhere? Other wise it's hard to get a job in sports organizations. You'll have to start small and earn your dues. I interned at a Chicagoland radio station where I cohosted my own sports show every day, but I've yet to work for any team in general. And I have no problem starting small, I just can't find any entry level jobs outside of internships.
  18. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 25, 2013 -> 12:08 AM) Cubs fans are adamant that they will sign him and it will be a game changer. In November I predicted Cano to Mariners and Tanaka to Cubs. I think they need an ace to build around. They just better hope it's not the Fukudome situation all over again.
  19. I'm about a week in to the job search. Applied to 4 sports organizations so far I think. Everything seems to be either internships or 3-7 years experience needed. Where the hell are all the entry level jobs? Would have been willing to take an internship with Fort Wayne TinCaps or South Bend Silverhawks, but they pay between $500-$600 a month and expect up to 80 hours a week. That sounds awful.
  20. I can't even imagine how he can throw it over 70 MPH like that. It looks like his hand is coming from underneath the ball, instead of on top of the ball. Goofy. I'd bet he gets crushed in the US.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 24, 2013 -> 06:18 PM) LOL, that's really what i expect. I can't figure out why that team would send him over for only $20 million unless they're desperate for cash right now. Well one reason could be they work out a side deal with him for a portion of his new contract, another may be they don't want a disgruntled superstar to cast a shadow over the team, and another may be they may not want to dissuade potential FAs from signing with them because their reputation is that they won't let players go over to the states if they want to. I can see both sides of the conversation, which is why I think a side deal would make the most sense for both parties. But the sooner this saga ends, the sooner we'll know.
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 24, 2013 -> 06:12 PM) Well, my bad, thanks. lol... Chris Cotillo ‏@ChrisCotillo 1m Now reports from Japan that Tanaka won't be posted, so now just hope your eggnog is spiked and there will be a decision when you wake up
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 24, 2013 -> 06:06 PM) Right now it sounds overwhelmingly like he will not be posted unless MLB changes their rules again. Their owner has virtually zero reason to sell this player for $20 million. Huh? Why do you think this thread just got bumped again? http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2013/12/gold...iro-tanaka.html
  24. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Dec 24, 2013 -> 06:02 PM) If the rumors of the upcoming bidding war on Tanaka are true its a scary thought how much his contract will be. The cubs and yanks are desperate enough to make this laughable for sox fans. Not to mention the Dodgers and Diamondbacks have interest too? Yikes! Yeah, I think our chances of Tanaka are probably much lower than our chances for Abreu were. We had the Cuban connection as well as a lack of teams in need of a 1B. All 30 teams in baseball are in need of a potentially all-star SP. I don't like our chances, and I don't think we want to know what it would cost us to make it happen either.
  25. Dylan Hernandez ‏@dylanohernandez 18m Nikkan Sports is also reporting that Rakuten has decided to post Masahiro Tanaka (h/t @mfsinatra). http://bit.ly/1le49YY David Kaplan ‏@thekapman 26m I just spoke w/an MLB source who believes Cubs will not be outbid on Tanaka. He also said convincing Tanaka to come to Chgo will be hard.
