2012-2013 Official NHL thread
ChiliIrishHammock24 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
So are these players who are going overseas not going to play in 12-13 even if the season DOES start, or is there a clause in their contract that allows them to come back here if the NHLPA and owners reach an agreement? -
QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Oct 23, 2012 -> 12:34 PM) I look forward to more links from the Onion from the Apple anti-fan club today. Was there a new article today? I didn't see one on the website, this is latest I've come across.... http://www.theonion.com/articles/new-light...mpbacked,29635/

Game 7 was a slaughter. I hit 10 home runs. 10! I hit 5 HR in the 6th inning alone. Alexei and Beckham were the only two players without a HR. Dunn, Konerko, and Parra each hit 2 of their own. I ended up hitting 7 HR with Dunn in the 4 games I played. Ha! Time to take on the Rockies for the WS.
-
Somewhat uneventful Game 6. Dickey only lasted 4 innings before I took him out and let John Danks go 3 innings in relief. Took a 4-2 lead in to the bottom of the 8th when Yankees hit a HR to bring it to 4-3. Bottom of the 9th, they got Russel Martin on base, and then Gardner bunted the pinch runner over to 2nd with 1 out. Struck out Granderson, and then got Cano to fly out to hold on to a 4-3 win. Adam Dunn has 5 HR just in the 3 games I've played, 6 overall in this series. Game 7 here I come! Sale vs. Pineda.

QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 22, 2012 -> 05:24 PM) keep us updated. I can't tell if you are being sarcastic or not, but I'll update it anyway..... Went down 2-0 early in game 5. Cano and Gardner are KILLING me this series. Dunn cut the lead in half with a solo HR in the 3rd. Then in the 6th, Dunn blasted another solo shot, 450 FT to center. 2-2 tie! Decided to pull New Q after only 70 some pitches because I felt he was on the verge of breaking down. Stayed 2-2 tie until the bottom of the 8th when Michael Young hit an RBI double to score Beckham to take a 3-2 lead. Next pitch.....2-run HR by Joe Mauer! Took a 5-2 lead in the 8th and won it by the same score. Forced a game 6! Heading back to Yankee stadium now. R.A. Dickey vs. Sabathia.

Woah. Amazing comeback. I was down 5-1 by the 4th inning. Schierholtz hit a solo shot. 5-2. Then in the 6th, Mauer hit a RBI single to make it 5-3. Then Young beat out an infield single to score Beckham. 5-4 game in 7th. Then in the 8th, Bartlett makes a 2 out error, and I pile on 4 unearned runs in the 8th, capped by a Dunn 3-run HR. Sox win 8-5 to take it to a game 5. Currently 0-0 in game 5, 2nd inning. Quintana vs. Vazquez.

I am down 3-0 in the 2013 ALCS series vs. the Yankees. Uh-oh. Got a 1-0 lead in the 3rd inning of game 4. I hope Johnny Danks gives me a good start!

Really, you guys like Prime videos better? I have both services, and I haven't touched the Prime videos since the app came out for the Ps3 sometime over the summer. It didn't seem like it had anything that Netflix didn't, and the way it was organized (or UNorganized, I should say) was stupid. Have they finally figured out to group all the seasons of 1 show in to 1 section? I was always having to move past like 18 seasons of SNL because they had them each listed individually, and out of order.

Holy s*** Homeland. I can never figure out where this show is going next.

Solid Dexter, but how has no one noticed that Louis is gone yet? I understand he no longer works at Miami Metro, and Jamie broke up with him, but you'd think Jamie would wonder where he went, or he would come up as a missing person by his family or something. That blood of his on Dexter's boat better come in to play at some point. Oh, and what was with that foreign guy having the crime scene tag on his place? And was that guy in the picture supposed to be Viktor?

Official 2012-2013 NCAA Football Thread

Phew, close one in South Bend. I guess Tommy Rees is better in the 4th quarter than the first 3. Coach Kelly said that Golson will be starting next week vs. Oklahoma. Well f*** ME then, defense better be ready to hold the Sooners to under 10. -
Heath Bell/Chris Young 3 Team Trade
ChiliIrishHammock24 replied to PolishPrince34's topic in The Diamond Club
A's got a steal, and the Marlins got robbed. Wasn't there a good market for Heath Bell before the trade deadline? And then they give him away with some 2nd RD prospect that had a terrible year in A-ball, while still paying $9M of his contract? -

AL Comeback Player of the Year goes to.....

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 20, 2012 -> 07:48 AM) Coming back from awful is fine. I meant that Rodney was never good in the first place. In my understanding, the award should go to someone that went from All-Star to injured/bad back to All-Star. Not mediocre forever to awesome like Rodney. Ok, I get that then. -
QUOTE (Reddy @ Oct 19, 2012 -> 10:46 PM) seriously? seriously? just watch Sherlock on Netflix. no horrible lucy liu trying to act. Sherlock is awesome.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 19, 2012 -> 03:39 PM) What do you mean disqualify Dunn? The most consistent power hitter in all of baseball for ten years suddenly has one of the worst seasons in the history of the sport. People were questioning if he would ever return to his previous form and thought he might be done as a baseball player. That fits the exact definition of "comeback". I thought you meant you shouldn't be able to come back from being awful, and rather come back from an injury. -

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 19, 2012 -> 02:52 PM) As I said in the other thread, what the f*** did Fernando Rodney come back from? Being a s***ty reliever his entire career? What a crock. Well, then disqualify Dunn and Rios then. Peavy, at least, came back from years of injuries. The only part that bugs me is that a closer doesn't change the team as much as your starting pitcher or everyday player does. If he had an ERA around 1.00, I'd be upset, but he DID have an insane ERA that broke an all-time record. If you want to be uber-statistical about it, you COULD list them by who had the largest jump in WAR since 2011. Only thing is that it's not an even scale from SP to RP to position player. So take this for what it's worth. Peavy - 3.0 to 4.4 (1.4 increase) Dunn - -3.0 to 1.7 (4.7 increase) Rios - -0.8 to 4.3 (5.1 incease) Rodney - -0.2 to 2.4 (2.6 increase) Rios showed the biggest increase of all the players involved. But for Rodney, as a reliever, you aren't ever going to come close to a 4.3 WAR like Rios had, so you could argue it's not far to compare the two, since reliever's WAR totals vary much less than any other position, but you could also use that to your advantage arguing that they affect the game less than all those other positions when they are awesome, and when they are bad, they don't change a whole lot because they are more easily replaceable. -
Fernando Rodney. Hard to argue with that, since he set the all-time ERA record for relievers (0.60), but it's just another kick in the nuts to this 2012 when Rios, Dunn, and Peavy all finish 2nd, 3rd, and 4th in an award everyone assumed the Sox had wrapped up. EDIT: Apparently Joe Nathan finished 2nd. LOL WHAT? How do all 3 of those Sox players not even break the top 2? Just a case of them all stealing votes away from each other?

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 19, 2012 -> 08:14 AM) What's your opinion on the 88-win 2nd WC team Cardinals making the WS? If the Tigers aren't deserving, then there is no way St. Louis is. Might as well cancel the World Series, since no one deserves to be there, right? I don't know, I didn't really follow the Cardinals season all that closely this year, so I can't really comment on how deserving they were or not.
-
QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Oct 19, 2012 -> 01:36 AM) One of the nice things about the Tigers extending their season is that it presents more opportunities for Delmon Young to get HBP. Always look on the bright side of life. Lol, but even if he gets drilled in the head, the Tigers could still win it all and Mr. Asshole goes home with a ring in the end. It pains me.
-
Just watched The Amazing Spiderman. What a let down. Soooo many plotholes and things missing. Movie clearly had a lot of cuts made, or was just poorly written. Blaah.
-
It's disheartening that Mr. Gordon, I mean, Delmon Young would end up winning the MVP. He's such a scumbag human being.
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Oct 18, 2012 -> 06:29 PM) Why are they undeserving? Because they played like s*** for 95% of the year, and then snuck in to the playoffs when the Sox choked it all away. They didn't deserve to make the playoffs. Obviously they've kicked ass since making it, but I mean they didn't even deserve to make the playoffs.
-
My god, Detroit is on point right now. I'm legitimately worried they are going to win this whole thing. It's a shame, they aren't deserving at all.

Can't stop listening to the new Macklemore CD. Any rap/hip hop/pop fans should listen to it.
