  1. QUOTE (Reddy @ Feb 23, 2010 -> 12:13 AM) why exactly would he suddenly jump from 15 hr a year to 25 because he's on our team? I mean i like the guy, but lets temper our optimism and not name him to the all-star team quite yet. His HR numbers SHOULD increase due to ballpark, and the fact he hits a lot of doubles, so 25 might be a possibility, but I see that more as a max than a likelyhood. I think 18-21 is a pretty accurate number.
  2. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 23, 2010 -> 12:28 AM) Ultimately, I'm very happy Williams struck out on Halladay. The addition of Roy Halladay to this pitching staff would have been phenomenal, but I would much rather see those resources go towards a hitter. At the end of the day, Roy Halladay is only going to affect about 33 games during the season and he'll probably have about 26 quality starts (78.8%). A combination of Freddy Garcia, Dan Hudson, and whoever else will make up for about 32 starts as well. I'd say, odds are, that combination will combine for somewhere between 18-22 quality starts (56.3-68.8%). Is adding anywhere from 4-8 quality starts throughout the duration of the season worth giving up a huge package of prospects? Halladay would have made the Sox a better team, but his addition doesn't put the Sox over the top. I don't think that's a fair way at looking at it because quality start =/= quality start. A quality start for Halladay is more likely to be 8 innings, 2-3 runs, while a quality start for Garcia/Hudson is more likely to be 7 IP, 3-4 runs. Just like two pitchers may have the same win totals does not mean their wins were valued the same.
  3. Awesome. Sounds like we will score 1000 runs this year.
  4. It makes me think if we had a deal lined up for Halladay, if we could then have a deal lined up for Adrian Gonzalez too. I doubt he would cost more than Halladay.
  5. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Feb 22, 2010 -> 10:20 PM) I don't go with the prospect lists, considering most of their tops end up busting. Wasn't Jay Bruce supposed to be an MVP by now? Or David Price being one of the best young pitchers in the game? All that matters was what Toronto thought of our prospects, and for all we know, it could have been highly. Regardless of whether they pan out or not, they still all hold value while they are top prospects.
  6. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 22, 2010 -> 09:40 PM) Is James Cameron a White Sox fan, lol? Maybe he would be willing to give Johnny Damon an extra $1-2 million. I always thought about that. Like if I was Bill Gates, and was a big sports fan. I would be like "Here ya go, take this $2M and get this guy". I mean, Gates makes millions of dollars a week. I wonder if there are any rules against this.
  7. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Feb 22, 2010 -> 10:02 PM) Why not? They've both dominated throughout the minors through AA, but Hudson did a little better at each stop, and they are both the same age. Plus, Hudson is MLB ready, Drabek may need another year. I'm just going off statistics by the way, since I haven't seen Drabek pitch. I agree statistically they are comparable, but just going by scouts and rankings and such. I have not seen Drabek pitch either, but they speak VERY highly of him.
  8. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Feb 22, 2010 -> 09:46 PM) ...I am sad now. Also, everyone saying we'd give up Danks, Floyd, or Beckham think about it... Kyle Drabek, Travisl D'Arnaud, and Michael Taylor (who became Brett Wallace) Hudson is one of the top SP prospects in the bigs, he could match Drabek. Flowers matches D'Arnaud Danks/Mitchell matches (or, if Mitchell, trumps) Taylor and Viciedo could match Wallace. I would say Hudson is NOT anywhere near Drabek.
  9. Ok, I sent the email to Ozzie to. All I know is, I better see Gerardo f***ing Parra in centerfield by the start of 2011!
  10. That would have been awesome, but I am hesitant to even think of the price it would have cost us.
  11. QUOTE (chw42 @ Feb 22, 2010 -> 04:57 PM) This also has to do with the fact that our front office is pretty cautious when it comes to signing/trading for injury-heavy players. Guys like Quentin are the exception, but for the most part, we're a healthy team. Peavy?
  12. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Feb 22, 2010 -> 04:04 PM) You should try emailing Ozzie. Good point. At least when I emailed Swisher, he would reply back. Anyone know Ozzie's email offhand? I think it's a yahoo account if I remember correctly.
  13. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Feb 22, 2010 -> 03:47 PM) I think that at this point no move will be made until the trade deadline, unless something like injury happens. Or unless KW reads my email.
  14. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Feb 22, 2010 -> 03:25 PM) Merkin tweets: Ozzie had praise for Freddy Garcia and the way he looked throwing the ball today. Jenks talks to MLB.com about decision to give up alcohol. Here. Teahen on the White Sox attack: "I'm not sure it's saying a ton but it's the best offense I've been a part of at the big league level. Cowley tweets: Buehrle: "I still think they're making a mistake pitching me Opening Day. I've said all along Peavy is dominating." What is Cowley's twitter? The only one I could find was a Joe Cowley who's last tweet was about Linebrink in Sep. 2008.
  15. QUOTE (greg775 @ Feb 22, 2010 -> 02:41 PM) Wouldn't Nix have hit 40 home runs if he had 500 at bats? That's all fine and dandy but doesn't mean too much. Nix would have hit about 23 HR and Jones would have hit about 32, and recent history shows that would have been an obvious power outburst from Nix, where Jones on the other hand has dropped 30-40 bombs consistently in his career
  16. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 22, 2010 -> 11:48 AM) On the same page if a "New Look Marquez Seeks Better Results" link. Come on, it's a fluff site. Seems like a completely accurate title. If Marquez does NOT seek better results, he will be a grocery store clerk in 2 years.
  17. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Feb 22, 2010 -> 11:25 AM) Here's two things i like about the Jones thing. "Guillen and several members of the Sox's staff were encouraged after Andruw Jones weighed in at 221 pounds - about 25 pounds lighter than last year. Jones is determined to regain playing time in center field as well as share the designated hitter duties with Mark Kotsay.: http://www.chicagobreakingsports.com/2010/...hout-damon.html 25 is good....I was hoping for like 40, but 25 is good.
  18. It's amazing how great of trainers and pitching coach we have, yet we can't seem to get a competent hitting coach.
  19. Found another Beckham one too. Beckham - http://www1.picturepush.com/photo/a/2659084/img/2659084.png
  20. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Feb 21, 2010 -> 10:09 PM) Thats where I'm looking, it's just a pain digging through 72 page threads. Good thing they have a search function. http://www.operationsports.com/forums/scea...#post2040660507 Was literally the first result, and took my 5 seconds.
  21. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Feb 21, 2010 -> 09:59 PM) Off Topic: Matt, where did you find that MLB 10 The Show cover of Gordon? It's bugging me trying to find it. Probably Operation Sports. I used to love putting custom covers on my games.
  22. QUOTE (hi8is @ Feb 21, 2010 -> 08:20 PM) where do the teams play? last season i stayed in some s***ty motel 6 - it was OK - but this time the extra cash will be worth it to stay in the same digs as the players =) When I went last year we stayed at Carefree Resort in Carefree, AZ. It was paradise..... http://www.carefree-resort.com/index.html
  23. Who is in that last picture with AJ? Doesn't look like Flowers, and it certainly is not Castro. Phegley?
