  1. Just got done talking to Brent, for whatever it's worth, he thinks he will spend the whole 2010 in AA. He, unlike me, is not too worried about the Teahen trade/signing. Seems like a real cool guy. Said he has heard that Dayan will be moved over to 1B at some point, hopefully making room for him at AAA if he continues to mash like he did in the AFL.
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 20, 2009 -> 09:09 PM) If the money's there for a DH and Oliver...sure. If I have to pick between them, give me a DH. I am actually really looking forward to Andruw Jones dh'ing. The guy dropped 17 bombs and 18 doubles in only 82 games last year. That's Jim Thome type power numbers, and Thome did not exactly hit for average either. I just have a feeling Jones will have a real good year with us and hit 25-30 dingers while hitting around .240 and an OBP about .340. There are better options out there, but I would be content with Jones as our DH.
  3. QUOTE (daggins @ Dec 20, 2009 -> 08:50 PM) Nah, we don't need a second lefty bad enough to pay for Oliver. It'll probably be Randy Williams. edit - maybe Beimel if they can get him for like, 1mil, but even then i'd think twice. I have been pulling for Beimel for a couple years now. Maybe it was because of this video...
  4. Think we should try for Oliver with a 1 year deal? I know he is pretty old, but he is a lefty coming off 2 great years with the Angels. I see the Rangers are pushing for him right now, should Kenny pursue? If we can get Oliver, then that really puts Jenks on the outs as we would have Putz close, Thornton for the 8th, and Oliver for the 7th, but it would also give us a rather expensive bullpen assuming Oliver would get around 2-3 M/year. http://thebaseballcube.com/players/O/Darren-Oliver.shtml
  5. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 18, 2009 -> 06:58 PM) I read an interesting quote from Contreras who I read was throwing 95 when he went to Colorado. He said wherever he went, he wanted to take the Colo. pitching coach with him. I'm not blaming Coop for Contreras, but this notiion that he fixes everyone is silly. The Colorado thin air is obviously the reason for that velocity increase.....duh!
  6. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 03:43 PM) that would make my day, but I dont see it happening. Oh god, it would make my offseason! Haha. We would have to shed some major salary to do that, like dump Paulie on some team, and get rid of Jenks to start.
  7. Jenks to Yankees for Gardner +? How long until Rivera retires?
  8. In Kenny Williams talk that means "How about you media shut the f*** up so I can deal this chump already".
  9. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 4, 2009 -> 04:26 PM) That was never the argument. You offered up a proposed trade of Alexei + Flowers/Danks for Uggla and since acquisitions are not made in a vacuum, Uggla's incredible price tag is coming along with him. I am saying I too would not make that trade. But I am responding to the person who said they would not trade Alexei straight up for Uggla, and I think that's a stretch. I was not throwing out those trade proposals as something I would offer, but rather what I think they would want or ask for, and who you guys think we should offer instead. The only thing I was proposing was to say Kenny might want to see if he can try and get Uggla, players involved not withstanding.
  10. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 4, 2009 -> 04:12 PM) So you truly believe Dan Uggla is $18M better than Alexei Ramirez (and his 2 arb eligible seasons in '12-'13)? I would not do the deal either because Alexei happens to be one of my fav players and Uggla costs more money, but in talent alone, I think Uggla is the better player.
  11. QUOTE (soxfan3530 @ Dec 4, 2009 -> 09:37 AM) has alexei fallen so out of favor on this board that people would consider giving up danks/floyd and the missle for the likes of Dan Uggla???? That was not an AND, it was Alexei + Jordan Danks/Flowers or Floyd/John Danks straight up. And I cant believe people here think Alexei is better than Uggla. I can see Alexei plus Danks/Flowers being too much, but Uggla is a better player than just Alexei.
  12. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 3, 2009 -> 05:14 PM) No, but the fact that he fits nowhere on this team and isnt an improvement over our current middle infielders is totally relevant. I just meant irrelevant in a sense that I doubt Kenny would turn down a trade solely based on "he is not a very good #2 hitter".
  13. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 3, 2009 -> 05:03 PM) He's a poor defender, a fluctuation in UZR isn't going to convince me otherwise. You can acquire him for his bat but that glove is still coming right along with him and it will be costing you runs especially in the double plays he fails to turn. Assuming Alexei is kept in any deal, and it's pitchers being dealt, he would be replacing Kotsay/Teahan in the lineup. I am certain he would produce more runs than both of them combined, regardless of defensive follies.
  14. I have been pulling for Beimel for a couple years now.
  15. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 3, 2009 -> 04:54 PM) his s*** defense at 2B Yeah, his 2009 was awful, but in 2008 he actually had a pretty good year, as well as a great year in 2006. And he would be acquired for his bat, not his glove.
  16. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 3, 2009 -> 04:53 PM) Oh and he would literally be one of the worst fits for a #2 hitter out there. The guy would k 150 times. irrelevant though.
  17. Uggla expects to be traded. What would the Marlins want? Package around Alexei + Flowers/Danks? Becks moves back to SS, Uggla to 2B obviously.... 1) Beckham SS 2) Uggla 2B 3) Quentin LF 4) Konerko 1B 5) Pierzynski C 6) Jones DH 7) Rios CF 8) Teahan 3B 9) Kotsay RF ? Or maybe we give them one of Danks/Floyd instead of Alexei and keep Alexei at SS, Becks at 3B, Uggla at 2B, and Teahan into the OF?
  18. Assassins Creed 2. That's all I need to say.
  19. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Nov 19, 2009 -> 10:29 PM) Dodgers fan telling Matt Kemp to play more shallow, Kemp look back and shrug the fan off. Promptly dived missing a ball in shallow centerfield (theshirt 13 inning craze fest). Also heard Michael Jackson died. I was at the game. I remember getting a text saying MJ died, and we listened to the news on the drive back. Was a day game I believe.
  20. QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 19, 2009 -> 06:58 PM) So what was the joke? It was a laffy taffy joke that I had read on the way to the game... What do you call a bear in the rain? A DRIZZLY bear!
  21. I got another 2...... I was in the skybox for a game, walked out at the end of the game, and saw Scott Merkin standing outside my box on his cell phone, I waved and said "What's up Scott", and smiled and waved back and continued his phone call. And then last year I was sitting right next to the bullpen. The whole game I was trying to get Linebrink, Jenks, and Thornton to notice me or give me a ball saying "tomorrow is my birthday!!" (and it really was). They never paid me any attention. Then as Jenks was starting to go back down to the bench after throwing in the pen, my buddy and I yell out a joke to him. I figured he was ignoring us, but as soon as we said the punchline he looked up at us and starting laughing. My whole section enjoyed the joke and were shocked that Jenks acknowledged us and laughed at the joke. Poreda was also in the pen and I said "Aaron! You are my favorite pitcher!" I was not expecting him to turn around and say "Thanks buddy". I then had no idea what to say once he gave me attention, so I just blurted out "We are friends on Facebook!" and he gave me a thumbs up. lol.
