QUOTE (That funky motion @ Feb 21, 2010 -> 12:08 PM) Why would you do that?? Because Jim Thome was the cats-pajamas. Obviously I won't root for him in a close game late or whatever, but i hope he does well next season. I stood up and cheered when Crede hit a HR vs. us last year, and remember when The Big Hurt hit his first HR against us? All the fans applauded.

I talked to Morel a few days ago, he will be arriving on Thursday.

Ok, I just emailed Kenny about Parra. Lol. How kickass would it be if he responded and said he would look into him? I would cream my shorts. -

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Feb 21, 2010 -> 01:46 AM) Other than prospect lovers like myself, or fans of the d-backs or perhaps baseball leagues, your probably right. I like Parra. He isn't what you call a "great" prospect, but he's solid. He's a very good defensive OF (especially in LF) with good contact and will improve discipline. He proved me wrong as I thought he was rushed from AA, but he hit pretty well with the D-Backs. Plus... the guy has the same first name as myself (I believe there is only like 7 or 8 prospects with that great name), so that's enough reason for me to like him. You mentioned all that and you forgot that fact that he has a heat-seeking missile attached to his arm? The first trade I am going to make in MLB 10 The Show is for Parra, I suggest Kenny do the same. lol -

QUOTE (Reddy @ Feb 21, 2010 -> 01:29 AM) where have you been? It appears I forgot a few words in that sentence. lol. I meant to say, while I WAS still hoping for Thome, Damon, and Dye to be our DH's, I thought Jones was still capable of hitting 25 HR for us next year. -

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Feb 21, 2010 -> 01:20 AM) I've heard of him, and i like him. But the D-backs do too, and i don't see them giving him up. It seems they have a crowed OF with Upton, Young, and Conor Jackson. It would be fantastic if Kenny could drop someone like Santliez, Ely, Phegley, or Shelby, or a collection of those for Parra. I should just email this video to Kenny and his jaw will drop..... http://mlb.mlb.com/media/video.jsp?content_id=5738361 ^^Simply the strongest throw I have ever seen in my life. The ball was literally RISING on the way to the catcher.....Insane. And this one is not to shabby either.... http://mlb.mlb.com/media/video.jsp?content_id=5301803 -
I voted Thome because I HOPE Thome hurts us more for 2 reasons. 1) I still love Thome, and much like Crede, I will root for him when we play the Twins and 2) If Thome is hurting us more by only playing in limited time with the Twins, it most likely means Damon is bombing, and I will support that cause.

QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Feb 21, 2010 -> 01:07 AM) Jones was, at one point, an outstanding CF. Unless you think he's lost it, I think he has potential to be an outstanding corner outfielder as well. Sounds like his knee was what was keeping him relegated to the DH in Texas. Pierre has average to above average defense in LF, throwing arm aside...which, let's face it, you're going to save WAAAAAAY more runs catching the ball than you are throwing it. Yes, I do think he has lost it. I think the best he can do is above-average at this point. -

QUOTE (greg775 @ Feb 21, 2010 -> 12:40 AM) I really don't give a s*** Detroit got Damon. He's a downgrade from Grandy. We don't need Damon. We do need help, though, in our lineup. I want McLouth in a trade. McLouth would be great, but probably cost too much. I REALLY want KW to go get Gerardo Parra from AZ. Someone who probably won't cost very much considering most of the people on this site have probably never even heard of him. -

QUOTE (103 mph screwball @ Feb 21, 2010 -> 12:47 AM) IF (big if) Jones and Rios return to top form, the defense of Pierre, Jones, and Rios would be outstanding and would move TCQ to DH quite often. Jones has a lot to prove and I am excited how aware he seems to be of that. Sounds like he not only wants to earn playing time, he wants to play everyday in the field. Love that attitude. As long as Ozzie makes him earn it, more power to him. Outstanding? I think Rios is the only one of our 5 OF who has that potential. -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 20, 2010 -> 10:28 PM) We are faster than last year, but it's not like we are an NL team yet either...like the mid to late 80's Cardinals. Rios will get his steals, and Ramirez hopefully can pick it up in this area, too. We've subtracted the lumbering Dye and Thome...although Thome was a good baserunner, just not fast. Teahen is a good baserunner but not fast, Beckham and Q (healthy) have good/decent speed. It remains to be seen how much A. Jones, Kotsay and Vizquel have, but they're all at least "capable" in that area, along with Nix. Then you have Konerko, who's obviously slow and AJ, who's deceptively good in this area but not fast, either. I am not denying we are a faster team, but that does not mean we have speed threats. Instead of having lumbering "base cloggers", we have a much higher average speed. However, outside of Pierre, we don't have any guys who are going to late game pinch runners to steal a base, this is why having De Aza might help add his weapon to this team.
-
QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Feb 20, 2010 -> 10:05 PM) No speed? What are you talking about? You might wanna look a little closer. Besides Pierre, who else on our team is a speed threat?
-
Outside of the obvious guys (Peavy, Jones, Pierre, Beckham, ect), I am looking forward to seeing De Aza. I have only ever seen him from a couple clips on mlb.com, so I would love to see him live. I wonder if he has any chance to make the team, because outside of Pierre, we have no speed.

ChiliIrishHammock24 replied to 2nd_city_saint787's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Like I said from the beginning, Andruw Jones is one of my favorite players, and while still hoping to get Thome, Damon, and Dye for DH to be safe, I really think Jones can break out and hit 25 HR next season with at least a .250 average and playing some outfield for us to give Quentin a rest. And to prove I have been a Jones fan, there is this.... http://img211.imageshack.us/img211/2453/dscn3026.jpg -
QUOTE (hogan873 @ Feb 20, 2010 -> 05:39 PM) I see your point, and I wouldn't start throwing things if it happened. Maybe it's the attitude that JD has been displaying for a while that makes me lower the dollar value. But half of the Damon offer would be $3 million. I was doubling what you suggested Dye was worth ($2-3M) to equal what we offered Damon ($6M).
-
QUOTE (hogan873 @ Feb 20, 2010 -> 05:32 PM) I have no problem with this except for the $. If he agrees to be the primary DH, sign him for $2 or $3 million. You don't think Dye is half as good as Damon? Dye has much better power than Damon, and power is what he lack and need out of our DH. Damon's speed would have been nice, but I think $4M is fair for Dye.
-
Jermaine Dye , $4M.

Alright, plan C: Jermaine Dye. Seriously, I would hope he would sign a $4M deal with us to DH considering he is getting NO OFFERS from anyone else right now. -
QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Feb 20, 2010 -> 04:23 PM) after hearing him being compared to Manny by a knowledgeable Bobby Valentine i think you may be right. How so??? you cant win a game without driving in runs. Yeah, and you can't win a game without a pitcher recording a "win", but that does not mean "wins" is a good stat for determining how good a pitcher is. He is saying RBIs are an overrated individual stat, which I agree with.
-
QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Feb 20, 2010 -> 03:42 PM) I see him batting higher than .300; his eye is too good and he can put any outside pitch down the line. He's going to become one of the toughest outs in the league. I see his prime years at .350 with 200+ hits, 50+ 2Bs, 30+ HRs, 100+ RBI and more walks than strikeouts. I think he's Jeter but better. That's an insane year, and likely an MVP season.....I think you need to tune that back a bit. .350 average? I am hoping for a .315-.320 average.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Feb 20, 2010 -> 01:53 PM) Wow, they really do love Gordon Beckham. They picked him over Kinsler, Pedroia, and Utley though? Hmm... Well Kinsler is 27, Pedroia is 26, and Utley is 31. It is assumed they should be hitting their prime right now, and will start their decline in 3-4 years. While Becks is 23 which means he probably won't start to decline for another 7-8 years, meaning he will get the better part of the next decade. These guys are all better now, but they are almost in between decades in terms of peeking.
-
http://mlb.mlb.com/media/video.jsp?content_id=7169633 They project the best players of the next decade..... C: Mauer 1B: Fielder 2B: Beckham (Will be in H.O.F) SS: H. Ramirez 3B: Longoria LF: Braun CF: J. Upton RF: Heyward RHP: F. Hernandez LHP: Lester They project him at about 19 HR a year, and 93 RBI. Seems like a TON of RBI for only 19 HR, I suspect he hits around 25 if he is putting up 90+ RBI. But regardless, it's nice to see Becks getting some love.
