  1. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Oct 23, 2009 -> 05:26 PM) Agreed completely. Though Buster Olney said earlier today that he sees both Soxs trading. He mentioned Jenks and Alexei to the Red Sox for Bard, Ellsbury, and Okajima. Again.. that was his proposal. Buster Olney mentioned that? That deal would be retarded for the Red Sox. I'd do that in a heartbeat.
  2. QUOTE (League @ Oct 23, 2009 -> 05:21 PM) Can you input some sort of IQ test that you have to pass to make an account here or something? No. There are lots of athletes here, and generally athletes don't respond well to the Wunderlich (sp?). Honestly this isn't anything to do with one message board. I used to be on another one and it was the same thing. Every offseason there is an influx of angry people who demand you agree with their stupid trade ideas.
  3. QUOTE (East Side Z @ Oct 23, 2009 -> 04:56 PM) I finaly understand why people hate these message boards................. We don't take kindly to no message board intolerance 'round here! (Now, Skeeter...) But seriously, you're a moron. SoxTalk rules.
  4. QUOTE (East Side Z @ Oct 23, 2009 -> 02:53 PM) If he hits .260 with 22 hrs playing avarage 3rd base..and maybe 80 RBI's ..........What would you say then? You're pulling this out of your ass. You're just making up numbers. Josh Fields still has more potential than Jayson Nix, and the only reason Nix gets playing time while Josh does not is because Josh isn't as versatile defensively. If Nix can put up the line you suggested next year then Josh can hit .270 with 35 bombs and 110 RBI. They're both 27 next year and Josh has had more success at the MLB and MiLB levels. But, neither player can hit MLB pitching and therefore neither player should be starting for a contending team.
  5. QUOTE (League @ Oct 23, 2009 -> 02:51 PM) He hit .261/.332/.415 in the minors over 3250 AB's. Starting Nix at 3rd is the infield equivalent of starting DeWanye Wise in CF. Agreed.
  6. Wait a minute! Doesn't CJ have a family member here on the FutureSox forum? Let's get that person to settle all of this height stuff. And decide on a nickname. So far I like Macho Man the best, or if he's short then Lil' Macho Man will work.
  7. Let's say Nix becomes a terrific defensive 3B. You're still left with a s***ty hitter. This argument is stupid.
  8. QUOTE (balfanman @ Oct 23, 2009 -> 01:50 PM) This is why I believe that the best case scenario just might be that if (IF) what C. J. Retherford is doing in the Fall League is for real and he has arrived as a ballplayer, is to have Retherford start at 2nd base next season with Getz being the utility man. IMO CJ would have to play himself onto the MLB club as a reserve, then play himself into a starting role over Getz. The Sox may want some guys around in Spring to "push" Getz, but I don't see Getz being in any danger of losing his starting job at this point.
  9. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Oct 22, 2009 -> 11:00 PM) Ricardo Almeida blew his knee out, so he's out of the Fitch fight.... Fitch will now be fighting Alves on the 12/12 card I see Alves as the more interesting fight anyway. I want to see if Kos being unable to take him down was just an aberration (Kos took the fight on short notice and mostly wanted to stand) or if Alves really has developed some great TD defense. GSP doesn't count because there are very few people on the planet capable of stuffing a GSP takedown in an MMA contest at 170 - and I say very few only because I can't think of anyone myself but I do figure that such beasts must exist somewhere.
  10. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 22, 2009 -> 02:41 PM) We all know you have a big time bias against Rampage, so whatever. I find him quite hysterical. The end. I have similar biases against people like Dane Cook and Larry the Cable Guy.
  11. QUOTE (scenario @ Oct 23, 2009 -> 11:49 AM) How is it that his JUCO team roster had him listed as 5'10", ASU had him measured as 5'10"... and the Sox have him measured as 5'10"... and that you've never seen him play... but you know he's 5'6"? CJ was measured once while jumping and then that same measurement just transferred over. In that video he looks short and stocky IMO.
  12. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 23, 2009 -> 11:39 AM) There is zero percent chance that CJ is 5'10" He looks about 5'6" and yes that is a midget If CJ is 5'10" then he's a lot more than 190 lbs. He's either like 5'10" 240 or 5'6-7" 190.
  13. QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Oct 22, 2009 -> 05:45 PM) Macho Man CJ Savage I'd totally call him the Macho Man. Ooooh yeeeeeeeah! QUOTE (Cali @ Oct 22, 2009 -> 11:12 PM) Rudy? You see that video? He is literally "5 foot Nothing" What about The Midgerino? Short stack? Lil' Muscle? What about Pugsley? QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 23, 2009 -> 08:05 AM) Why does CJ need a nickname? CJ stands pretty well on its own. Can't really shorten it, unless you want to call him "C". Forced nicknames are annoying. If he earns one through some funny story, then great. Because he does, that's why. Stop questioning everything.
  14. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Oct 23, 2009 -> 11:31 AM) He throws a lot more than just a fastball. And his fastball moves very well. He's got a plus curve and a good to plus change. Stras is the real deal. The first time I saw video on him I came away more impressed with his change than anything else. If he can throw that pitch with any consistency.... wow. But yeah, the slider and curve are sick too, and that fastball is devastating. He's easily got what Hawk would call "Nintendo stuff."
  15. QUOTE (East Side Z @ Oct 22, 2009 -> 01:06 PM) I see Kenny doing business with Theo this offseason..........Involving Alexi and Jenks for Pappalebon and maybe Buckholtz.....Not saying thats the exact trade but those would be the principels. Great idea. We replace Jenks (who already we are having trouble affording) with an even more expensive closer, plus add a 7th starter, and we do it all while only opening a gigantic hole at SS? Sign me up! QUOTE (East Side Z @ Oct 23, 2009 -> 07:41 AM) Kenny will make a trade this off-season and the logical and or most likely to be moved are Alexie and Jenks.Im not for moving either guy for the sake of moving them. But if you can get Theo intrested it wouldnt be a bad idea to see what he might offer. I agree. It is far more logical to move a young, productive player who plays a premium position at a salary well below market value than it is to shop a couple of overpaid veterans like Paulie and Linebrink.
  16. CJ needs a nickname. The dude is a savage.
  17. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Oct 22, 2009 -> 03:42 PM) Even than, the Sox already have a ton of money invested in the rotation so is moving Buehlre and than taking his cash and spending it on an unproven guy like Chapman all that worth it? Maybe, but I think it would depend heavily on what else the Sox got for Buehrle and even than there is no denying the fact that you'd be taking on a massive financial "risk". No.
  18. QUOTE (son of a rude @ Oct 22, 2009 -> 03:18 PM) It's almost impossible to change somebody's opinion on defense, unless they buy saber stats (or unless they are completely wrong, ie they think Dye is a good fielder and you can use visual evidence to change their mind). I watched Chris play, and it did seem like Nix got to more balls then he did. But again, your eyes can be deceiving. I thought Nix' range was superior to Getz from watching games, but that isn't always the best way to tell. I use UZR to back up what I saw. I don't think anyone in this thread is saying that Getz is a better defender than Nix. I agree that Nix is rangier and has a stronger arm, and therefore is more versatile in the field, even though he's not much of a SS at all. The point is that Getz is a better hitter and a better all-around baseball player, and he plays 2B well enough to be an asset. Nix OTOH has major offensive shortcomings, and his defense is not enough to negate that. Nix is a bench player, Getz is a starter. IF - and this is a really big if - Nix can make better contact and give away fewer AB, and IF he can hit RHP, then he could be the better player. But the odds at this point are against him because he'll be 27 next year and he still needs a ton of work.
  19. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Oct 22, 2009 -> 02:12 PM) Anyone think Pods is asking for a ridiculous amount of money, so KW scooped this guy up as a replacement? I hope not. I don't want De Aza competing for a starting job and I don't want Pods starting either. I want an OF with a track record of hitting in the Majors who can also cover both CF and RF well. That way when Rios gets a day off we don't have to run out a s*** defense.
  20. I find Rampage annoying as f***. He makes lame, repetitive 8th grade jokes, and then as soon as someone calls him on it he gets butthurt. Rampage is a moron, a s***ty coach, and an overrated one-dimensional fighter. I just don't see the humor in picking on obvious things about people. If someone is fat then he makes fat jokes. If someone has bad teeth then he makes bad teeth jokes. If there's nothing wrong with someone's appearance, he resorts to bad breath jokes. He also loves to pick on people who can't/won't fight back. I hate that dude.
  21. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 22, 2009 -> 09:39 AM) I totally expect Ozzie to say something like "why did I do it? Do you see what they are paying me? My wife told me I couldnt pass that up, she wouldnt let me come home" I could see him saying almost exactly that.
  22. QUOTE (son of a rude @ Oct 22, 2009 -> 01:49 PM) Read the f***ing post next time then. I said he was bad on defense. There is nothing in the thread that proves he has good defense. All it is is arguing about whether UZR is accurate or not. People believe Getz is a good 2B because they have watched him play. UZR has its flaws, which must upset you because it seems to be your only argument. Secondly, it would be practically impossible for anyone to "prove" anything to you. Only time will do that, and when enough of it passes, you'll see how wrong you are.
  23. QUOTE (son of a rude @ Oct 22, 2009 -> 01:45 PM) He has bad range.... He has a UZR of -5.8. I'm sure you don't believe in UZR though. Please explain how Getz is a good defensive player. Let me guess, you use your eyes? Let me guess, you use your ass? Please tell me how Jayson Nix is going to hit RHP well enough to earn a spot in any MLB lineup.
  24. QUOTE (son of a rude @ Oct 22, 2009 -> 01:32 PM) Somebody sounds a little bitter. You think you would put together at least somewhat of an argument, but I guess not. The arguments have been made in this thread by several posters, including myself. All you have to do is read it. Instead, you're challenging others to repeat themselves simply because you didn't read the f***ing thread.
