  1. QUOTE (Sockin @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 02:35 PM) @jaysonst Jayson Stark Other teams now say #WhiteSox would "absolutely" move Quentin in right deal - but "not bound & determined to move him." More in Daily Rumble Makes sense. Hopefully the Braves and Phillies get in a bidding war. The best thing that can happen is if the Astros don't want to trade Pence.
  2. I'm all for a quality starting pitcher, but who is leading off for this team next year? We're not actually penciling in De Aza for that, are we?
  3. If Rios is gone in 76 hours, I'll be as happy as if the Sox won the division.
  4. QUOTE (LVSoxFan @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 11:26 AM) Has there been ANYONE we acquired from KC where it ended up like: yeah, that was an awesome trade!? http://www.baseball-reference.com/friv/tra...franch_ID_2=KCR Bannister for Hibbard and Melido didn't suck.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 10:54 AM) Terrible standard for this. By that logic the only retired numbers would be from the 2005 team. Ventura had 8 great years here, was a great hitter, and an even better defender. He was really the heart and soul of this team for his time here. It's not everything, but it's part of the equation. I think Buehrle and Konerko eventually getting that honor---being a big part of a World Series team is in the equation. Ventura--heart and soul? I never really looked at him like that. Good hitter--not a "great" hitter. Great glove. Played 8 full years with the Sox. Buehrle and Konerko played over a decade with the Sox. Accomplished great things, including a championship. They are far and away more deserving of a retired number over Ventura.
  6. Ventura--decent career. Not close to being a hall of famer. Played about 8 full years with the Sox. Didn't win a championship. Not worthy of a retired number. Not even close.
  7. QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 09:41 AM) You really think 14 and 56 shouldn't be retired? They are not going to be MLB hall of famers but they truly deserve to have their numbers retired by the team. Yeah, for those guys. At the time, the Baines retired number was kind of a joke---but that's just me. I just roll my eyes when people suggest Ventura and Dye should have a retired number. They aren't even close to being worth that honor.
  8. QUOTE (ewokpelts @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 09:21 AM) I think eventually, AJ, Boner, and Buehrle will have retired #'s and statues. AJ? Not a chance. Where did that come from? Konerko and Buehrle, for sure. Maybe Ozzie if he doesn't burn too many bridges on his way out. The Sox have retired too many numbers as it is. I like the idea of a team Hall of Fame for guys like Ventura and maybe Dye being the Series MVP (although Crede was clearly the best player), and reserve the retired numbers and statues for actual MLB Hall of Famers. It's going to be a sad day when the Sox make a statue for that clown in the broadcast booth. And you know it will happen.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 09:11 AM) You can just as easily do this the other way. The Sox are 12-5 versus teams in first place in MLB, and they are 11-7 against the 1st and 2nd place teams in their division. I also can't remember the record right now, but I know they are also way over .500 against teams over .500. Like I said, only results matter from here on out. They must win the division. So they better play this right and really think about what's best for the future of the team. If it means trading Quentin and Floyd...and maybe Thornton, then they should do it.
  10. Indians are close to getting Fukudome.
  11. Cooper just said the Jackson/Hudson trade worked out for the Sox. He thinks their numbers are similar. Yeah, no they're not. And if you factor team control and a 20-year-old lefty named Holmberg also in the move, no, the trade did not work out for the Sox.
  12. They've played 103 games. They're under .500 at home They're under .500 vs the division They haven't had a 5 game winning streak all year They have Boston and New York coming to town, followed by road series in Minnesota and Baltimore---which have historically been hard places to win for the Sox. So, if they keep Quentin, they better find a way to win the division. Effort doesn't count. Only results count. My fear is they stand pat, then go 5-9 the next 14 games and wish they would have done more at the deadline.
  13. Frasor was on CTL tonight. Sounds like a genuine fellow. Grew up a Cubs fan, but is excited to be with the Sox, back home, and can't wait to be in his first pennant race. I hope he gets his wish on that last part.
  14. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 12:51 PM) Ervin Santana looking good today for the Angels. Only 72 pitches through 7. Can't get the shutout, but....
  15. QUOTE (WHarris1 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 12:05 PM) Colby Rasmus, Trever Miller, Brian Tallet and P.J. Walters for Jackson, Marc Rzepczynski, Dotel and Corey Patterson. Zoinks. Ok.....
  16. The Score will have the Kenny tape on the air in a few minutes.
  17. I tip my cap to "k0na". Never again will I doubt what this guy has to say. So who is the prospect?
  18. Just checked the whitesox.com board, and the original tweeter seems to have a good track record on getting trade info. http://www.forums.mlb.com/n/pfx/forum.aspx...&tid=115142 If it happens tomorrow, I'll tip my cap. But common sense says Edwin Jackson doesn't stay with Toronto past Sunday.
  19. A win tonight would have gone a long way. Now there's a part of me that wants them to wake up Saturday morning 7 games out, just to see what would happen the rest of the weekend.
  20. If this trade happened or was happening, they would have announced it after the game. It's bulls***.
  21. I saw one tweet on this, and it's only one tweet, so... http://twitter.com/#!/k0na/status/96057735715635200 Is this somebody here, or is this the source? I don't understand why the Blue Jays would want Jackson unless they are flipping him to a different team. Makes no sense.
  22. QUOTE (bulokis @ Jul 26, 2011 -> 10:20 PM) Why did KW sign Ohman for 2 years for 4 mil? He's been fine recently. This game is so much more on Big Mouth Peavy.

  24. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 25, 2011 -> 06:13 PM) So if the Sox win 2 out of 3, KW is a buyer and if they lose 2 out of 3 he's a seller? If the Sox somehow manage to win the division would this have been the most unenjoyable division winning season in history? If the Sox end up winning the division, it will mean they had a good August and September. By the time they get down to the end of the season, meaningful games the last two weeks will make the pain of the first half go away. But they have to make the playoffs.
  25. We're forced to be in. 61 games left. 3 back in the loss column. Win games.
