The cream has really risen to the top in the NL. Only six teams over .500 out of 16, and that's with a pretty close interleague this season. 8 out of 14 AL teams are over .500, but the Rays and Jays have no chance of making the playoffs. The Yankees, Red Sox, and Phillies are locks for postseason, so right now only 9 teams are going for 5 spots. 18 teams are kind of out of it with about 50 games left.
-
I'm happy about the sweep, but there's no reason to get excited about being 3 under .500 after 113 games, with a losing record at home and the division. Get over .500 and under 5 games out, and we'll talk...

Kid's gotta point... http://twitter.com/#!/OzneyGuillen/sta...316094375526400 Actually 34 out of 44, but who's counting...

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 7, 2011 -> 02:47 PM) Beckham is at .171 against LHP now Wow, that just blew my mind. /walkered

Just checked the Twins schedule this week. Three more home vs Boston, and then they go to Cleveland next weekend. It would have been cool if Thome hit 600 in Cleveland if their fans didn't suck so much. Classless trash in that city.

http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...ox&did=milb Teheran was wild. Viciedo walked, but his average is below .300 now. See you in September. Kuhn's got respectable numbers at AAA now.

It's ridiculous Hawk is basically giving up-to-the-minute updates on the Tigers. When the Sox get over .500 and within 5 games, maybe then you give more updates. Right now, it's more Hawk stupidity.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 7, 2011 -> 11:55 AM) Pierre isn't the guy you sit. He's not hurting this team. Not really the point. They have to find out what De Aza can do against lefty pitching. Unless they just don't think he's in the plans for 2012 at all, which could be the case.
-
Today's lineup: Pierre, Ramirez, Konerko DH, Quentin, Rios, Lillibridge 1B, Beckham, Flowers, Morel I don't think the Sox are in it, but hasn't De Aza done enough to get playing time? I mean, Pierre isn't going to be here in 2012...play de Aza and see what he can do, especially against a mediocre lefty. Stupid Ozzie.

Tyler Williams makes Oney Guillen look like a prospect.

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Aug 6, 2011 -> 05:07 PM) I would love Mark back. Maybe a 3-year deal worth $30 million? I think that is fair for both sides. Mark has made plenty and clearly isn't money-driven, but the Sox also can't afford to just low ball him and insult him. My biggest worry about Mark is his desire to remain here. I think he senses the dysfunction and would probably rather go home to St. Louis where the likelihood of winning is higher and he won't have to deal with the shenanigans of this organization. He stated this morning he wants to stay with the Sox, but he did throw out there the whole family thing makes him want to stay home. I think when it's all settled this winter he'll be back for 2-3 years, and then it's either retirement or play for the Cardinals.

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Aug 6, 2011 -> 01:11 PM) You are correct, no guarantee at all. But it's the 1st week of August. You honestly don't think the Sox can make up 6.5 games in 2 months? Can I answer?...no way. There are 51 games left for us, and the Tigers have 50. So let's be specific, and not just say two months. It's less than 8 weeks of games. The Sox are 5 under .500, and the few times they've gotten to .500 since April, they lose a few in a row. They haven't been over .500 since April 15th. The Tigers added Fister and Pauley, and that will help them. They have an ace named Justin Verlander. They have an easy schedule the rest of the way. They are the only team in the division currently over .500. I don't know how many games the Tigers will win or how many they'll end up winning it by, but I predict they'll clinch the division with at least a week left in the season.

Buehrle was on ESPN1000 this morning, and of course he mentioned retirement and his kids starting school in a year or so....same old stuff. As much as I love what he's done for the Sox, maybe it's time to let him go to St. Louis and finish out his career there. I wish he wanted to pitch until he's 40, and in that case I would want him to stay with the Sox for 7-8 more years. But since we know that won't happen in Chicago, and the team seems to be going backwards in the standings, maybe it's time to move on without him and wish him luck there.
-
He's probably cost himself money by talking about retirement and his willingness to walk away if it isn't a team he wants to play for. How about 2 years/ $24 mil, with a vesting option for 2014? If he hits 190 innings next year, 2014 kicks in for another $12.

QUOTE (kapzk @ Aug 5, 2011 -> 10:45 PM) Any1 know if Peavy has pitched on normal rest (for 5 man rotation) without any of those offdays interfering, this year. Maybe thats why they are hesitant on allowing Peavy to pitch tmr and moved him after, if I am not mistaken, his season high in pitches his last game out. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/...mp;t=p&year=
-
Just my speculation, but I think they want to see Stewart start now before September...get a couple starts, then go to the pen for long relief and get a couple starts in September when the Sox have two doubleheaders---or more starts when Peavy just flames out and they shut him down.

Bruney DFA. Zach Stewart will start tomorrow. Peavy Sunday.

QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Aug 5, 2011 -> 09:29 PM) We've all been waiting for the start of a playoff run....and it looks like tonight is that start. Let's sweep the Twinkies this weekend and than go after Cleveland! We'll get our revenge against the Yankees come October! Please tell me this is tongue in cheek. -

No Rios tonight. Pierre, Ramirez, Konerko, Dunn, Quentin, Pierzynski, Beckham, De Aza, Morel

Thome got 598 last night in Anaheim. I hope he hits two this weekend. Might as well be against the Sox.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 4, 2011 -> 09:39 PM) You gotta admit they look a lot better going forward than they did a few weeks ago. Perhaps they can finish above .500, like 83-79, but they'll still finish well behind the Tigers.
