White Sox vs. Royals
Assuming the Sox win today, here are the records of every 40 games of the Tigers and Sox: Tigers-- 22-18 21-19 21-19 White Sox-- 16-24 22-18 22-18 3 things: 1) Starting 11-22 killed the Sox. 2) As mediocre as the Tigers are, they've been consistent. 3) Over the last 42 games, it's tough, and would be tough to make up ground on the Tigers short of beating them 5 out of 6.

Mark Buehrle New Contract
They were just talking about Buehrle on Hit and Run, and what he'll get. To me, he can't have a pay cut. I think 2 years/28 mil is fair for Buehrle, plus an option for a 3rd. And the more I think about it, Danks and Floyd both have to be traded after this season. They aren't going to keep Danks after 2012 anyway. Trade him before then and maximize his value. 2012 rotation: Buehrle, Peavy, Humber, Sale, Stewart (maybe a young starter comes back in one of the trades) Could they suck? Yes, but they aren't winning or drawing fans with the team they have now.

White Sox vs. Royals
QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Aug 14, 2011 -> 10:18 AM) yet another must-win. Basically, yeah. Just to keep it simple, the Sox have to win 2 of 3 the rest of the season. Win today, and go 28-14 the rest of the season to finish 88-74.

33 games for Uggla. It would be cool to see it get to 40. Hasn't happened since 1978.

They'll go 1-2 in each of these home series. Book it.

Sox vs. Royals
This is why you're not in it until you actually get over .500. This team isn't good enough. They weren't going to catch the Tigers anyway. They'll win 87-89 games.

QUOTE (earthshiner @ Aug 12, 2011 -> 09:48 PM) Avoid potential dp? The bench is De Aza, Vizquel, and Dunn. I'd rather keep PK in there in that situation.

QUOTE (earthshiner @ Aug 12, 2011 -> 09:44 PM) How in the hell is ozzie not pinch running for pk? Unless he gets in scoring position, there's no real point pinch-running in a 2-run game.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 12, 2011 -> 01:50 PM) http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/page/rumbli...blems-revisited Move the Dbacks or Astros to the AL, eliminate divisions, play a balanced schedule (or real close), and send the top 5 in each league to the playoffs. Done. I wouldn't blame the better teams for not wanting the extra wildcard. Why should a 96-win team have to play an 84-win team in a single game or 3-game playoff to stay alive? Not winning the division isn't a good answer either. If they're going to add a playoff team, then they have to eliminate divisions and seed the top-5 in the right order. Othewise, don't do it.

WS Winna!
Buehrle is 7 starts from 30, and 45 innings from 200. He should get 8-9 more starts, so he's looking good.

The home stand opponents: KC- Chen, Hochevar, Francis Cle- Jimenez, Carmona, Masterson Tex- Harrison, Ogando, Holland I see four games Dunn will sit. Sweep KC, and win 2 out of 3 against the other 2.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 10, 2011 -> 09:12 PM) Will the Sox miss Masterson next week? He's starting Friday, so we'll probably get him the last game of the series in Chicago. Ubaldo, Carmona, Masterson

Pale Hose vs. Orange Birds
QUOTE (MAX @ Aug 11, 2011 -> 07:08 PM) I certainly hope so. 17 quality starts in a row for Mark, and the bullpen has been one of the strongest aspects of the team this season. One of his 3 or less run games was less than 6 innings. 16 out of 17.

You think when Hawk is giving 20 updates on the Indians/Tigers score, Stone is just thinking, "shut the f*** up"?

Are you in or out?
QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Aug 11, 2011 -> 03:38 PM) I would be willing to bet the ALC winner will not have 86 or more wins this season. Also, the AL aggregate records of the past ten years are somewhat informed by AL dominance in interleague play. The AL-NL record this season was 131-121, which is far more even than it has been in previous seasons. Tigers have to go 25-21 to finish 86-76. I think they'll get there. That guy starting tonight will have a lot of say in what their final record will be.

Pale Hose vs. Orange Birds
QUOTE (Pants Rowland @ Aug 11, 2011 -> 03:19 PM) I remember that game well. He was relatively new to the rotation too, if I recall correctly. Had been primarily pitching out of the pen to start his career. After the final out he looked totally dumbfounded like he had no idea what had just happened. It was his first game with the White Sox. He had pitched for the Rangers one game a couple years earlier.

20 years ago today, Wilson Alvarez threw a no-hitter at Baltimore. I'll take Buehrle's 3rd no-hitter tonight, and will accept nothing less.
