  1. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Oct 5, 2015 -> 11:46 AM) Ugh terrible. Can't wait til people get what they wish for and we get f***ing Chuck Swirsky. Ugh They can't both be terrible? If Swirsky is doing the home games, I hope he improves and starts acting like a pbp guy and not just interviewing Stone for three hours.
  2. QUOTE (knightni @ Oct 5, 2015 -> 11:48 AM) Granger is barely two hours away from USCF. 2 there. 2 back.
  3. Because he lives in Granger, IN and doesn't want to drive 4 hours a day 81 times. Only the White Sox, man.
  4. I think some people take the side of ownership/management and what happens, or doesn't happen in this case, to make themselves feel like they're on the right side of things. Some things in baseball happen that can't be explained. We'll never know how this team would have played under a different manager and coaching staff. What I do know is the teams under Ventura have played sloppy, and under-perfomed for their expectations...not ours.
  5. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Oct 5, 2015 -> 10:46 AM) Sure, but that's the point: "same team" should not be in the cards. That's the variable we should be focused on. SS2k5 make a good point that by retaining RV, Hahn is signalling that the players need to change. He's placed the flashlight on the correct problem, now he has to step up and fix it. Or Hahn wanted to make a change, and Kenny and/or Jerry wouldn't let him. We don't know. Look, what's done is done now. He's coming back, they'll make some moves, and they'll try one last time. I wish them luck. But 99% of the time, managers in his position would be gone now. And rightly so.
  6. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Oct 5, 2015 -> 10:36 AM) The bolded is exactly what I mean. "That's how it goes." It's just a way to kick the can down the road. Would you be happy if the Sox ran out the same team under a different manager in 2016? If the option is- same team with Ventura, or same team with a new manager that they carefully interviewed and made a more informed decision, yes I would take a new manager.
  7. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Oct 5, 2015 -> 10:18 AM) The point is "who cares"? I'm not saying that any of them deserve an extension or to be fired or whatever, but just that none of it will actually solve anything. If the Sox suck again next year, it won't be because of Robin Ventura. It'll be because they didn't get a real 3B or catcher, or because they gave LaRoche/Garcia another 500 PA each. If the Sox make coaching changes, fine. But we should stop treating the status of the manager like it's an actual bellwether for our team's performance. It's symbolic, at best. Not denying that in a vacuum it's hard to quantify what a manager brings. But when you take everything into consideration from the lack of experience when he was hired, and sloppy, under-performing teams over the last few years, the right baseball move would have to make a change. And it has nothing to do with appeasing fans. 29 other teams probably would have made a change today because that's how it goes.
  8. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Oct 5, 2015 -> 09:59 AM) MLB teams use coaching firings as misdirections. They fire your manager to appease the mob, despite the fact that there's tons of evidence -- observational, anecdotal, sabermetric, and otherwise -- that suggests that the manager has very little, if anything, to do with how well the team performs. Why are you all playing into this? If you want to hold the White Sox accountable for losing, do it by asking why we have Avisail Garcia. Do it by pointing out that there were signs that Adam LaRoche or Alexei Ramirez would fall off a cliff. The players are the ones that are failing. Changing managers will do nothing to help your team, so stop letting the media and PR department "satisfy" you with manager-personnel decisions. Well then. They should probably give the entire coaching staff a 3-year extension today. Can't have a manager with lame duck status, after all.
  9. Buehrle's comments after the game made it sound like it's up in the air whether he'll retire. Joked maybe he'll try to start a new 200+ inning streak next year. We'll see. Until he says it in the offseason, you never know. Hell, the Jays may still need him.
  10. Arrieta has earned every possible adjective. I'm assuming he's winning. Just hope the Cardinals win games 1, 2, and 4.
  11. Astros get in with a losing AL Record (70-72). Best interleague record at 16-4.
  12. Fitting the Yankees are the last game to finish today. AL East baseball.
  13. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Oct 4, 2015 -> 05:35 PM) Why did Cleveland only play 161 games? Because they had a rainout with the Tigers a couple of weeks ago and they were only going to play tomorrow if they had to. Tigers and Indians end at 161.
  14. Tuesday- Astros (Keuchel on 3 days) vs Yankees (Tanaka) Wednesday- Cubs (Arrieta) vs Pirates (Cole) Keuchel and Cole has a nice ring to it.
  15. Cardinals didn't score a run in Atlanta this weekend, and now don't play until Friday.
  16. Seriously, actually complaining about the outcome of today's Sox game? It's over, man. Breathe.
  17. Looks like... Astros at Yankees....winner plays Royals Rangers at Blue Jays and Cubs at Pirates...winner plays Cardinals Mets at Dodgers
  18. Yankees trying to get back, but it won't matter if the Astros lose. The drama on today's games is running out.
  19. QUOTE (Big Hurtin @ Oct 4, 2015 -> 04:59 PM) Any chance HE retires? He'll cut back next year. I just hope Swirsky starts acting like pbp guy and not an interviewer, or they get somebody else.
  20. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Oct 4, 2015 -> 04:53 PM) Ugh. Don't want sox season to end, regardless of how bad it was. I'm ready to watch some good major league baseball the next month. This Sox team can go kiss my ass.
  21. QUOTE (Knackattack @ Oct 4, 2015 -> 04:50 PM) Butler down. 2 to go. It would be fitting if Coco Crisp messes this up somehow.
  22. Ok, Wilhelmsen, get the job done this time. Billy Butler up...
  23. Astros tie it, playing to host the Yankees. Yankees down 5 in the 6th
