QUOTE (onedude @ Apr 24, 2012 -> 02:56 PM) If the Sox look like they're going to compete for a spot in the playoffs, do they bring up another starter to go to a six man rotation to protect Humber, Sale, and Peavy? I don't think that would be a terrible idea if it came down to saving them for a chance at going into the playoffs. 6-man rotation is an awful idea. It helped Buehrle last year, but it was more for Peavy who was still an unknown factor and Humber who never logged the innings before. You ride this 5-man as long as possible, and if Sale or Humber need a rest, you skip them and bring in somebody like Axelrod.

It is a great start, but let's get to June 1 at about 30-21. That's a pretty good sample size, and we'll know if the pitching staff is for real by then, and if the offense has been good enough. I'm not thinking this is a rebuilding year, nor am I ready to tell the critics they were wrong yet. I don't know what this team is yet, but I'm enjoying what I'm seeing so far, and I hope it continues the last 90% of the season.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 23, 2012 -> 03:56 PM) Steroids/PED-related questions from the non-Rangers/beat writers who would stir up the past. He's probably more concerned that it will affect his HOF chances to have that dragged through the coals. In actuality, he's probably the strongest argument for including someone because of their defensive abilities (like a Bill Mazeroski at 2B) as a catcher...forget all the offensive numbers he posted. Next time I'll use a "Gee" in front of "wonder why", with an eyeroll emoticon.

Ivan Rodriguez had a press conference to announce his retirement, and he refused to take questions. Wonder why?

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 23, 2012 -> 11:36 AM) Just an FYI, but the Sox have been about as good as you can be against Justin Verlander in his career. His 4.13 ERA against us is the 2nd highest of any AL team. I should have predicted this post was coming. He's at another level now. Nobody wants to face him, and it's a good think the Sox won't have to.
-
Verlander is scheduled for Friday vs NY. That means he'll go the following Wednesday, and the Sox will miss him again. And even further out than that, the Tigers rotation is setup where the Sox will miss him in the 2-game series in the middle of May. Could be 3 times max facing him this season. No rain.

Angels 7 games out. Did not see that coming this quick.

Humber will be presenting the Top 10 list on Letterman tomorrow night. (from Oakland)

Gotta like what's happening with some of the starting pitching--Castro, Quintana, Molina, and Axelrod all could help at some point this season.

Birmingham- Castro pitching well http://www.milb.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?s...msbaax_biraax_1 Kannapolis- Walters http://www.milb.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?s...lexafx_kanafx_1

The Mariners AAA team got 1-hit yesterday too. Ouch. Some familiar pitchers there. http://www.milb.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?s...freaaa_tacaaa_1 -

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Apr 22, 2012 -> 11:44 AM) Danks might very well be the team's 4th best starter right now. I was thinking about that yesterday. I'd take Sale, Peavy, and Humber ahead of him now. Damn, we may have something here. -
Oakland series-- Peavy vs Colon Floyd vs Milone (lefty) Sale vs TBD I'm glad Tyson Ross is starting today.

I hope they enjoyed themselves last night, but 9-6 is so much better than 8-7. Especially coming off losing 3 of 4 from Baltimore, this would be a good win to get. -

Look at Phegley. Great season going. I have a good feeling about Quintana. Can't have enough good lefty pitching.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Apr 21, 2012 -> 07:15 PM) Have there ever been perfect games so close to each other on the same team? David Wells and David Cone had to be closer. edit: yes http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Perfect_game -

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Apr 21, 2012 -> 07:16 PM) I'm wondering if this is the most players involved in a second perfect game. Sox lineup on 7/23/09: Podsednik Ramirez Dye Konerko Quentin Beckham Nix Castro Fields Now there's a juggernaut team.
