  1. QUOTE (Butter Parque @ Sep 16, 2010 -> 06:31 PM) Beane constantly develops and trades for good young players. He doesn't have the money at his disposal to make a splash or even re-sign his own. I love Kenny for what he did in leading up to 2005, but since then, things have been a disaster. P.S. describing Floyd as consistent is borderline lunacy Except Beane really hasn't developed anyone, position player as least (their pitching looks pretty good, albeit a bit overstated with that pitchers park). I think they have about 76 outfielders on their 25 man roster who are all bad. Plus, the A's had a lot of money top spend last offseason and failed hard. Also, to say KW has been a disaster since 2005 fails so, so much. 2006- 90 wins with a pitching staff that pitched an extra month the year before. 2007- ok disaster 2008- division title 2009- contended for most of the year, wouldn't call it a failure 2010- could win 90 games again ...speaking of borderline lunacy
  2. Wait, so what the KW narrative? That he sucked because he didn't get a bat at the deadline? Or is it he sucks because he got a perennial MVP slugger who hasn't hit within a small sample size. I'm confused.
  3. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 16, 2010 -> 05:36 PM) I think Kenny deserves his share of the blame for our flop. Getting Peavy has not helped the team in the least and getting Jackson did not impact the race a bit either. The Manny move was a complete joke. Just make Viciedo the DH and he'd have had as good an impact as Mr. Singles/No Ribbies. Just make Manny the DH and he'd have had as good an impact as Mr. no walks/small sample size
  4. QUOTE (striker @ Sep 13, 2010 -> 10:08 PM) I know it probably won't happen but I'd like to see Flowers starting next year. Bat him ninth. He had a low average but I bet he could have a higher OBP and RBI than Pierzynski. You don't want to see that. Flowers is ALMOST a non-prospect at this point.
  5. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 12, 2010 -> 10:42 AM) What does that mean? I think what he is saying is what is our record when Quentin is the DH or when Jones was the DH, etc. Personally, I don't think that tells you anything. There are countless variables with stats like that.
  6. Pick up this book: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/046500547...B38H82DY8G1JTCW
  7. Think about the type of players we could have gotten in return for a package of Quentin and Floyd.
  8. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 12, 2010 -> 03:04 AM) LOL On and on about Thome. Thome didn't cost us the division. We could have picked up a similar DH. KW listened to Oz. It's both their faults. It's second guessing about Thome. This board had so much Thome hate his final year here. I hope Thome leads them to the WS title. Once and for all, Minnie, go for it. And the Ozzie haters may get their wish of his firing. Surely Thome will bury us in that 3 game series some more and Oz just might freak out where he throws something or injures a writer and finally gets fired for good. He's sensitive about the Thome thing. You guys on this Thome kick fail to accept one fact. We were in the race w/out Thome. We did not add to the team at the AS Break. We stood pat and paid for it. We could have responded like competitors and added a bat. We were right there with Minnie. Sox thought they could stand pat. Halfway through the season we were right there WOUT THOME. Sox could have but didn't add the bat to continue competing with Minnie. But keep dreaming about Jimmy Thome who so many wanted out of town and were so happy he went to the Dodgers. Let me guess, the Thome for Rowand deal was a bad trade? Although you are right about how many people wanted Thome gone last year, it doesn't mean they're complete idiots. I'm tired of trying to play NL baseball in the AL. Yeah the "rotating DH" is a great idea if you know, you actually have the talent to pull it off. This is on Ozzie and only Ozzie. It's what he wanted. The White Sox left a lot of runs on the table by not resigning Thome and it hurt them the first two months of the season.
  9. QUOTE (chisoxt @ Sep 11, 2010 -> 01:46 PM) Gio, Rchard and Hudson will win over 40 games combined next year...count on it. That's a lot to trade with not much back in return. Nice, naming two pitchers who call home to the two most pitcher friendly parks in baseball, and a third who has been pretty lucky and faced mediocre teams in a 1/2 season. Also I'd like to echo what Kenny Hates Prospects said.
  10. QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Sep 11, 2010 -> 04:13 AM) You seriously misunderstood what J4L was saying. And I'll add to Real's Gio and say Chris Young this year hasn't been too bad (.266/.345/.467/.812, 20/20 player, 4.4 WAR, 5.9 UZR) and this is comming from someone who was not a fan of Young as a prospect when he was here. My point was that if they did get traded (I'm not saying Jordan implied that) I think KW gets the serious benefit of the doubt. QUOTE (Reddy @ Sep 11, 2010 -> 10:25 AM) 14 Wins with a 3.16 ERA how do you figure? Well he pitches in one of the most pitcher friendly parks in baseball. His FIP is 3.69 and his xFIP is 4.12 (nearly a run higher than his ERA, ouch). Young has been alright, I do like that he has cut down on his strike outs, but Rios> Young no question. To me, Chris Carter (went to AZ in the Quentin trade, then to Oakland in the Dan Harren package) might be the first to really say "damn I wish he had that guy."
  11. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 11, 2010 -> 12:50 AM) And our GM is Kenny Williams. They'll both be with other organizations this time next year. Name a prospect that has come back to bite them in the ass. I'm waiting.
  12. Nothing. He's still a pen arm and will be a very good one.
  13. "The worst thing in American Politics" isn't on that list. But it's that.
  14. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Sep 8, 2010 -> 09:28 PM) I don't think it matters at this point. We're done. This. I hate this time of year when the sun seats early, it's getting colder, and I give up on the White Sox.
  15. Am I the only one who hates Omar hitting second? But yeah that is what your 3-4-5 should be.
  16. Awful idea. Jackson has already thrown 110+ pitches in his last two starts.
  17. Steve Stone. Respected baseball mind, appearance everywhere (CNS, The Score etc.) and former Playgirl model.
  18. Meh. Remember a hit can have some human judgment to hit, meaning some of those might have been borderline error or hit calls. Maybe though there is something to this. Remember in 2008 when the Twins hit a pretty lucky .305 with RISP? By comparison, AL average for that year was .273 (the next closest to the Twins was Baltimore at .287) Things like that tend to correct themselves, as we saw in game 163. Maybe another "correction" is possible.
  19. QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Sep 6, 2010 -> 11:43 AM) i don't know how you can say he CAN'T start when he's been doing it every year for a while now. maybe he has a predisposition for the bullpen, but arm slot/motion aren't 1:1 correlates with inability to start I guess I just can't explain it. I mean I just see his delivery and go "that's a pen arm" albeit a very good one at that. Nobody is also sure if he has the stuff to start. I understand his stuff now is good to get guys out, but can he do it two or three times through the line-up?
  20. Wait, people really think Sale can start? The man has been phenomenal but I have no idea how anyone can say he's a starter with the motion he has plus his arm slot.
  21. Is this game blacked out for anyone on both CSN and TBS? The game won't show up on either channel for me. FING Comcast.
  22. Swisher earned a lot more points with me by giving that guy a giant ice pack.
  23. Although I absolutely despise PED use, you're pretty delusional if you don't think it happened to players you rooted for on your favorite team. My point is, if you didn't want every guy who ever used PED's, good luck filling out a competitive roster.
  24. Had a great time today. Sat in section 530. Although I forgot how baseball stupid most people are that go to games. Apparently, according to the dude sitting behind me, it's rude to boo former players and coaches. Especially players because, "all they did was get traded." Also this guy sitting in front of me kept yelling "Andruw Jones sucks" in the 8th after Lillibridge got thrown out stealing. This older woman and him got into a great argument. I'm still not sure as to why he hated Andruw Jones so damn much.
  25. QUOTE (TheBigHurt @ Aug 29, 2010 -> 10:55 PM) I'm honestly surprised Kenny is bringing a player with the type of attitude Manny has here... but if it leads us to a Division title, I will be happy with it. I guess it's just a month, right? It reeks of desperation, in a good way, if that makes any sense. To me, it shows KW knows the window is closing soon. Weird to think that if you would have told me in May the White Sox would be picking up Manny to stay in the race I would have laughed in your face.
