I get the feeling that Illinois could go undefeated this year and He_Gawn would just say they got lucky and the rest of college basketball had a down year. Don't take anything he has to say about Illinois too seriously, he's just jealous that Illinois has replaced Indiana as one of the Big Ten's powerhouse teams in the last couple years. As for the ISU game tonight, third "power conference" opponent we've defeated this year. The student section was great, someone had a sign saying "$t. John'$ Boo$ter$ Are #1", good stuff. I'm looking forward to at least an NIT berth this year. -

No room for one here in the dorm room, but back home we have an artificial one and put it up last weekend.

In other basketball news Illinois State lost to UIC 60-56. ISU wasn't making their shots but I gotta give UIC's defense credit, they were tough to get an open look on. Also, ISU had problems on defense giving up to many easy inside shots. But they did hold Cedric Banks to just 2 points on 1-8 shooting. -

Illinois starts tomorrow's Big Ten sweep of the ACC to win the challenge. -
Exactly, I think those big schools expect too much right away, especially when you have about 3 or 4 team per conference that think they should be title contenders every year. Look at Nebraska, said something like "they wouldn't tolerate an 8-3 season" and now they're not even in a bowl. College football isn't going to have the few dominant teams like they had in the past, so teams are going to either have to accept a 8-3 or 7-4 season every few years or keep firing and hiring coaches hoping to find gold.

I bought it. My first basketball video game purchase in a few years, and I haven't had much of a chance to play it yet but I like what I've seen. It has a new slam dunk contest and the 3 point shootout if you're interested in those modes. And the franchise mode now goes 25 seasons. As for the gameplay, I think that it's more realistic than previous games cause I have problems making shots even when I'm wide open, but maybe I just suck too. Plus, it's only $30 which was the deciding factor for me.

I would love to see either Zook or Willingham at Illinois. Anyone that is a big name would be good for that program. I don't understand how school's can fire coach's so quickly. How can you tell after 3 years what the guy has done if his juniors and seniors are still recruits from the previous coach?

I give Purdue credit for just staying in the game last night and not embarrassing the Big Ten. I always cheer for Big Ten teams outside of when they play Illinois. I don't see what you have to gain by cheering against them against other conferences. But I'm not going to try and convince anyone of what teams to cheer for. All I can say is I'll be cheering for all 8 Big Ten teams these next two nights and hopefully, although unlikely, the Big Ten will win this challenge for the first time. The conference is getting no respect and to lose these games would give the media even more reason to bash the Big Ten. I would consider 4 wins to be somewhat of a victory this year, as long as we show that we can hang with the big, bad ACC I'll be happy. In other news, ISU plays UIC tonight and I'll be at what will hopefully be a good game with a good crowd to show their support for the 4-1 Redbirds. -

Which is the most dramatic ending to a game?
The Bones replied to greasywheels121's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I don't even like hockey but I voted OT Goal. My reason being that in every other sport you are somewhat ready for it, basketball has a clock, football has a clock, a walk-off homerun can only occur in the bottom of the inning, but in a sudden death situation, such as soccer too, it comes from nowhere and is "drama" at its best. There is no argument if we are talking about "most dramatic". But if we are talking about my favorite, I would say a buzzer beater in March is my favorite. -

Props to Iowa for representing the Big Ten so well early. Big Ten got no respect from SI with only 2 teams in the top 20 and Illinois all the way down at #9. Prove them wrong as they always are. UNC #1 what? -
You can't honestly believe that Artest started the whole thing. I have seen much harder fouls than that, and the guy that was fouled didn't push the guy in the face. It wasn't like Artest knocked him to the ground, this is f***ing Ben Wallace here, he's supposed to be tough, just rub it off and don't be a pussy about it. I'm not a Pacers fan or a Ron Artest fan, and I actually kind of liked Ben Wallace before this incident. But he was clearly in the wrong this time.

Yeah, it depends on our shooting. It was terrible against Marquette obviously (only made 1 three as a three-point shooting team), but our defense looks improved from last year. -

Well, after getting dominated 60-32 against Marquette last night, Illinois State beat Mississippi 70-52 tonight to claim 3rd place in the BCA Classic.
