QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 15, 2016 -> 07:34 AM) This is really pretty simple guys, the team is desperate for a reliever and Fulmer is our best internal option at the moment. I highly doubt this has anything to with showcasing him for a trade and I definitely don't think it means they're writing him off as a starter. It's pretty clear, IMO, that the front office is doing whatever it can to salvage this season. Calling up Fulmer for the pen helps in that regard, even if it's not the best thing for his development. Exactly. They are almost going "all in". With the calling up of the two top prospects, eating Danks' contract, DFAing cheap vets like Rollins and Latos without a second thought, Shields trade. They are trying every thing they can to win this year.

Everyone points to Garcia, but it's Abreu's slide that's k

I think it's fair to say that given the Sox flaws, they need 2014 Abreu to make the playoffs. -
So awful. My parents were just in that area last month. Nothing happened during the Euros then this, without a real weapon.

Quite the jump from Petco and the NL West to Fenway and the AL East. It will really test if his breakout is legitimate.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 14, 2016 -> 12:28 PM) Sounds like Pence is a done deal as Trump's VP candidate.

I think the Royals should trade for him.

QUOTE (Deadpool @ Jul 13, 2016 -> 12:30 AM) Seriously, why would a team like the Cubs EVER want to bat their pitcher? Every game they bench a top prospect because they have to let the pitcher bat. That's a better argument with Schwarber available but he's not. Right now that potentially means they'd rather have Baez or Soler vs Ortiz or Hanley and not have the intangibles of game 7 at home.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 12, 2016 -> 02:59 PM) Not really. Also, they talk about batting average, homers and RBIs. Sometimes OBP is listed on the screen but you rarely if ever hear an announcer say what a guy's on base percentage is. Sabes people are still considered like Trekkies, cultish. The best announcing team in Chicago talks OBP and "sabes" all the time.

QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Jul 12, 2016 -> 11:58 AM) Wow, that's some terrible luck. I think my card has been compromised once, but I always seem to be a possible victim on those big store hacks. Anyone spending lots of money on Prime Day? So far my wife and I have bought some odds and ends, but most of the deals are Amazon specific devices (have enough of them) or crap we don't need. I went into the day hoping to buy two car seats because our 10-month old is growing like a beast and we can't wait it out until the older one switches to booster seat. I found the exact model we have now with 25% off around 9. I made the mistake of asking my wife about it first, and by the time I got back to the computer, the sale was off. Spent all of lunch scoping the different ones trying to choose one, then of course right at 1:00, I noticed our model went back on sale, so I scooped it up right away. I haven't bought anything else, so much of it just seems like random pointless trash.

QUOTE (Chi Town Sox @ Jul 12, 2016 -> 11:27 AM) I don't know who I am voting for or if I am voting for all but it wasn't going to be HRC or Bernie. But to see him roast her for as long as he has and then sit up there and talk about how fierce she is, wow. His facebook followers are absolutely roasting him. All those donations to help him fight to the convention and then to bow out and support everything that he had said was evil. That's pretty disappointing. It's the beauty of the rigid two party system in the world's greatest democracy. Endorse Trump or a 3rd party candidate and he would get laughed at.

Testimony revealed today that Paterno knew about Sandusky's action back in 1976. But LET's BUILD THE STATUE! Greg Schiano and Tom Bradley were also told by McQueary in the early 90s. Stewart Mandel @slmandel 7m7 minutes ago Bombshells in Mike McQueary's unsealed 2015 testimony about Tom Bradley & Greg Schiano having knowledge of Sandusky abuse in early '90s. Stewart Mandel @slmandel 5m5 minutes ago McQueary: Bradley told him Schiano came into office "white as a ghost and said he just saw Jerry doing something to a boy in the shower."

QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Jul 11, 2016 -> 02:51 PM) Damn it's nice to have the AD's office excited about sports again: I enjoy college sports, but man I can't help to feel weird about two grown men hugging and smiling over where a high school kid decides to go to college.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 11, 2016 -> 02:09 PM) The problem with this article is again, it comes from a Chris Matthews type, that is, a Hillary worshiper.. This paragraph made me stop reading: "Obama administration officials, up to and including the president, badly want to see her win — there is something in the way she acted after the election, in the soldier she became and the colleague she showed herself to be, that has curdled the pride they felt in winning the 2008 primary into something close to guilt." Yes, we know, Hillary is so special, blah blah. She's a compulsive liar, power hungry, elitist and the FBI doesn't care. How is that any different than most other top politicians?

Chris Berman reminds me of Hawk. He will always be remembered as a legend in broadcasting, but as time goes on he becomes more and more unlistenable yet refuses to retire. Back in the day, NFL Primetime with Berman was awesome, must-watch TV on Sunday nights, especially before RedZone and Sunday Ticket.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 11, 2016 -> 11:30 AM) Draymond Green arrested for assault http://www.mlive.com/spartans/index.ssf/20...mond_green.html Such a weird quote: "The police department is not confirming any arrest with that name," said Lt. Scott Wrigglesworth, the East Lansing police department Public Information Officer. "What I can confirm is that we did arrest a current NBA basketball player this weekend and he was arrested for assault. That's all we're confirming right now."

I think it's time to take Jose off the banner
LittleHurt05 replied to ron883's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (ron883 @ Jul 10, 2016 -> 09:36 PM) I think it's time, folks. Jose has been a complete and utter disappointment this year. .748 OPS is unacceptable from him. His OPS has taken a .100 point dip each year since his rookie year. Like I previously predicted, Jose has been figured out IMO. You throw him junk outside and he can't resist. Jose Quintana is much more deserving of being on the banner. Then go ahead and make a new one, no one is stopping you. -
Kyle Hendricks career line: .076/.116/.086. They deserve all the credit for what a great "HITTER " they developed there

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 10, 2016 -> 09:36 PM) DEVELOPMENT ISN'T THE KEY. IT'S IDENTIFYING TALENT...especially if it's undervalued. SEE Quentin, Floyd, Danks, Alexei, Quintana, Abreu, Eaton, Nate Jones, Addison Reed, Hector Santiago, Sergio Santos, etc. The problem is we haven't been very good at it, by and large, since the 2008 playoff team...and going on 7-8 years now. But DEVELOPMENT is the argument we are having. Nobody once questioned IDENTIFYING TALENT

QUOTE (Deadpool @ Jul 10, 2016 -> 09:37 PM) First of all, he gave the Cubs credit for Rizzo, which is kind of strange because they traded for him. Secondly, he assumed regression among all the other players he "gave credit for" which is a little silly because neither Soler or Baez are getting regular plate appearances. To say the farm system isn't developing isn't an argument, it's just stupidity. Stupidity? That's a nice thing to say. I gave them credit for Rizzo because he didn't become a star until Chicago and I was trying not to be biased. I'm not assuming regression for Baez and Soler, they just haven't shown enough to regress in the first place. I never called out their farm system, their MLB roster just has very few homegrown guys that weren't already great at baseball.

QUOTE (Deadpool @ Jul 10, 2016 -> 09:31 PM) Tell me honestly: When you write this nonsense down, are you paid by the word? We get it, you don't like the Cubs. Besides the six figure salary I earn as a moderator , no, I don't get paid for my words. Fathom has talked about the hitters the Cubs keep developing and I am questioning what hitters have they actually "developed ". They have done a hell of a job of acquiring talent but almost every great hitter they have learned the craft before coming to.Chicago.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 10, 2016 -> 09:12 PM) Jimenez might be the fastest rising prospect in baseball. Another insane hitting prospect they are developing. You keep saying this but what hitting prospects have they developed? Bryant and Schwarber were ready out of college I'll give credit for Rizzo but he was already a stud in other orgs. Russell has improved but hes not a great hitter yet. Zobrist and Fowler were 30+ year old free agents Baez and Soler haven't lived up to expectations yet. Contreras does look good so far but that's one guy and the league can still adjust.

QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 10, 2016 -> 01:29 PM) While I've enjoyed watching them struggle, I still see no reason to bet against them as divisional champs at the least. Yup. They are on such a slump yet still have a 7 game lead. I'd be a little concerned with their pitching but that lineup just has so much talent.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 10, 2016 -> 05:09 PM) It's also crazy that Portugal won this tournament without winning a single group stage game. They won one game in regulation out of 7. And in the old format they would have been eliminated for finishing in 3rd place. Funny how that works.

I'm not one to usually care that much about All Star accolades but I'm really happy that Q got the nod. So underrated and never gets run support, he just goes out and takes care of business every 5 days. Congrats to Q.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 8, 2016 -> 01:59 PM) LOL I'd take him on the White Sox in a heartbeat. I actually think the Cubs team is extremely likable. I don't care for most of their starting rotation, but I really can't dislike most of their offense. Rizzo and Bryant are getting more and more media coverage, and they just seem like good dudes even if I want to dislike them.
