Can the Seahawks win but their fan base lose somehow? -
QUOTE (SoxAce @ Feb 1, 2015 -> 03:19 PM) So how many people did this weather affect Super Bowl plans with other than myself? Can't believe I'm staying home. We ended up staying home. A police SUV got stuck on my block, I think that was a sign.

QUOTE (LDF @ Feb 1, 2015 -> 09:43 AM) wasn't there a vet, older vet that was playing and many were complaining about. he was used as a 2rn line center i think his nickname is Zeus, or something like that. Michael Handzus. They traded for him during the 2nd Cup run and he stayed last season. Granted they won a Cup with him there, but ugh was he slow. -
QUOTE (Brian @ Feb 1, 2015 -> 09:27 AM) Yeah, I'm guessing we're going to get more than projected unless it started moving through faster. Usually they over estimate. This time around, it seems like the projected totals keep getting bigger, O'Hare now looking at 14 inches. I wasn't very excited about our Super Bowl party options, happy to have a legit excuse if I want to skip them

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 31, 2015 -> 09:39 PM) Come on man, #6 running back in NFL history total yards, tied at #10 in rushing touchdowns? Pace will get in within a couple years, the NFL does this annoying thing where there's not enough slots so they kinda put people in to make sure they get in, but Bettis was a HOF running back by my standards. 3 times in 13 years was he top 5 in rushing yards, only once top 5 in rushing TDs. His best skill was longevity, which to be fair, should not be taken for granted with RBs. He was always good, but never close to the best running back in the league at any point. You are totally right about Pace, just seems dumb how they take care of other guys instead of letting the most deserving candidates in right away. -

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 31, 2015 -> 07:52 PM) Orlando Pace isn't a first ballot hall of famer?? Lol. Fail. And yet Jerome Bettis was elected. Ok then. Nothing screams Hall of Fame like 3.9 yards per carry. -

Every damn time against Penn State it's a close game (maybe says something about the program ). Always happy to get the W against them. Maybe these injuries /suspensions will be a blessing in disguise so these younger guys have to grow and learn much quicker -
When in doubt, blame Smoking Jay.

QUOTE (ewokpelts @ Jan 31, 2015 -> 08:10 AM) When the owner says "jim thome will be a manager one day", that's when you know he's ventura's replacement. That said, I wish bell took the job in 2011. I belive they would have made the postseason in 2012 with a veteran manager. Do you think a veteran manager would have prevented all the injuries or created a makeshift bench with more talent?

QUOTE (flavum @ Jan 30, 2015 -> 01:13 PM) 25 is enough. And I hope the September rules become tougher. With expanded rosters, fine bring guys up...but turn in a 25-man roster each day that includes your four previous starting pitchers. flavum for new Commissioner! The September roster rules are my biggest pet peeve for some stupid reason.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 30, 2015 -> 12:30 PM) Sad. Out of curiosity, we hear about this all of the time in football, is there a lot of it in hockey? I haven't heard much about the old-time players, but I know there are some head trauma lawsuits out there from ex-hockey players. You also have a few cases of the recent players who had committed suicide, mostly enforcer types. -
Boogie Cousins FTW

QUOTE (Reddy @ Jan 30, 2015 -> 09:48 AM) Never did I say that. I'm simply saying that it's a great risk to take. Even with a 4 era he's insanely valuable at that price. Much better than Danks or Noesi, and if he misses, he misses, and you haven't paid much. Plus we have Herm and Coop, the best in the biz. I agree and would have happily given him a minor league deal. But if you have any thoughts of contending you aren't locking him into your Opening Day rotation anytime soon, the Phillies aren't either. QUOTE (Reddy @ Jan 30, 2015 -> 10:25 AM) How common do you think pitchers with a 3-5 WAR/season are? And if 1 WAR is worth $8 million, if he only put up HALF a WAR, he'd be way more valuable than 1.5MM. If he were to put up 1 or 1.5 or 2 WAR, that's insanely valuable. That is insanely valuable, key word being "if". That's why he only signed for $1.5 million. I'm sure teams have studied his medical charts, and there's probably something they aren't too excited about.
-
QUOTE (Reddy @ Jan 30, 2015 -> 09:27 AM) Shields costs the same as 40 minimum-salaried players. Billingsley costs the same as 3. There's literally no reason to compare the two, and definitely no reason to draw any meaningful conclusion from doing so. Oh, and Chad is three years younger. You compared the salaries yourself. I am just comparing them because one of them will be guaranteed a spot in a MLB rotation in 2015 and one might start the year in the minors. You are the one acting like the Phillies are guaranteed 2008-2012 Billingsley for $1.5 million.
-
QUOTE (Reddy @ Jan 30, 2015 -> 09:12 AM) There's an $18.5 million dollar difference. And also a 443 innings pitched difference over the last two seasons
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 30, 2015 -> 08:19 AM) I mean everyone was predicting them to win the WS at the culmination of all those moves. Except for Billy Beane, I thought I remember some quotes at the time of the trade saying that it wasn't just about the playoffs, they needed him for the stretch run. With all the injuries that piled up and all the career year guys that regressed to the norm, they needed him to hold off Seattle. That being said, he choked away a lead in the WC game, so the trade wasn't a rousing success, but I don't think it was a failure, they got to the playoffs.
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 29, 2015 -> 05:54 PM) See Oakland A's, 2014. Are you saying that trade didn't work out? Without Jon Lester the 2014 A's probably don't even make it to KC for the wild card game, so I think it was a positive trade.
-
QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jan 30, 2015 -> 08:02 AM) Nick Friedell on WMVP yesterday said the same thing. This is becoming the locker-room story and it is becoming the front office and players v Thibs and the fans Why are the players hating on Thibs? Do they think he pushes them way too hard??

Josh Gordon writes a letter to the media. Very interesting read, although he's either very, very unlucky, or I have to call BS on his stories about this positive tests. -

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jan 29, 2015 -> 10:34 PM) Hawks traded D Adam Clendening to the Vancouver Canucks for D Gustav Forsling I think this is an age swap. Clendening is ready now but can't crack the Hawks roster because its so deep. Forsling is only 18 and playing in Sweden. He had 8 points in 5 games at the WJC. Shoots left too. Rozsival'ed -
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jan 29, 2015 -> 09:40 PM) I'll take 3 for Abreu. Goldy and Cabrera have an edge. No complaints there. Paul Goldschmidt is such an awesome ballplayer yet I bet most casual fans have never even heard his name before
