  1. QUOTE (Big Hurtin @ Jul 27, 2013 -> 09:25 PM) David Ortiz lost his mind. He didn't like a strike call on 3-0 and eventually struck out. He showed up the ump and got tossed. Then he had to be restrained by several players/coaches from going out after the ump. He then took a bat and smashed the s*** out of a phone box with shrapnel going everywhere. Roid rage is a b****
  2. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 27, 2013 -> 09:14 PM) Just thought I'd point out that it's no cinch that Rizzo will be a better player than Cashner when all is said and done. Not that the Cubs would ever need pitching, of course Cashner's not striking out as many people as in the past and that 5.07 ERA away from Petco raises some questions. But I agree that everyone assumed it was a lopsided trade, but Cashner has some talent.
  3. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 27, 2013 -> 09:01 PM) I just disagree on this. I just don't see why a contending team would want to take on Jose Guillen Rios unless the Sox pay almost all of his contract. Jose Guillen was traded 3 times as a major leaguer. Just sayin'.
  4. QUOTE (zenryan @ Jul 27, 2013 -> 08:46 PM) wow, Pitta is out now? I was watching NFL Network earlier during their camp show and they were saying he may be out for week 1. That escalated quickly. Just the season opener was the original diagnosis, but then Adam Schefter & ESPN announced him out for the whole season. It's not official yet though.
  5. Dennis Pitta and Jeremy Maclin already injured and out for the season. 18 game schedule can't get here soon enough.
  6. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 27, 2013 -> 01:27 PM) Peter Gammons ‏@pgammo 1m If what GMs say the pricetags on Peavy, Norris, Lee and Santana hold, Wednesday is going to be very quiet. Peter Gammons is still alive?
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 26, 2013 -> 09:23 PM) That's great, as one less starter for Red Sox to acquire. Also, many thoughts Cubs might get him. I thought it was a lock that the Cubs would get him with the way they were signing foreign guys. I guess he is too old to fit into Theo's plan.
  8. QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Jul 27, 2013 -> 05:31 AM) Interesting that Juan Uribe is a) still in the league and b) a bit above league average. His OPS+ the last two seasons were 56 & 50, so I guess he was due.
  9. QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Jul 26, 2013 -> 04:54 PM) He faced 152 batters this year before getting injured. He faced 194 all of '12. If would have never gotten injured he would have been on pace for just under 300 batters face. Roughly 150% more than they year prior. In 2012, he was hurt from April 20 to May 16 and June 23 to July 23. That's a third of the season, hardly a far comparison.
  10. Joel Sherman ‏@Joelsherman1 B4 traded for Soriano #Yankees checked in with #chisox on Rios were told on his no-trade and would not waive it so moved to #Cubs Soriano
  11. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Jul 26, 2013 -> 01:50 PM) The landscape keeps changing. Three things that have happened that have radically shifted Sox deals: 1) Hudson injury 2) Crain injury 3) Berkman injury The Sox FO is different now than in the past. Rick is very, very patient. Interesting, thanks for the info. Is that Alex Rios in your avatar? Or just a random player?
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 26, 2013 -> 01:47 PM) This is going to be a completely different Bears team in a year or two. There is some real hate between the new management group and the players. Adam Jahns ‏@adamjahns 11m #Bears CB Charles Tillman: "I've got one year. Do my year and be done. If they want to bring me back, they'll bring me back." That doesn't bode well for the 2013 season.
  13. QUOTE (kwill @ Jul 26, 2013 -> 01:27 PM) I would be intrigued by a package that would start with Kris Medlan. The guy kind of has fallen out of favor. He has put solid K/9 numbers in the past. If you could take him on with a few mid level prospects that would be an intriguing package. Medlen is in their rotation now, it would make zero sense to trade him for Peavy. That doesn't solve the problem.
  14. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 26, 2013 -> 01:22 PM) Anyone think they would be willing to give up early on Heyward? If they had adequate replacements they might, but their outfield is a mess. Both Uptons are injured and sucky this year. I think they need Heyward out there, trading him just creates another hole.
  15. Here are my replies: -The TV booth needs a change. Hawk is a legend, but he is past his prime and ruins the broadcast. A new voice on TV would greatly improve the TV watching experience. -All of the mental errors that make it seem like the players have no focus and don't want to be on the field. Losing is easier to handle if the players appear to be giving 100%. -Chris Sale, Chris Sale, and Chris Sale.
  16. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 26, 2013 -> 10:23 AM) I really don't think this is a big deal. All kinds of teams are going to have all kinds of scouts in all kinds of places this week. If you saw a Royals scout at the Tigers-Sox game yesterday, what do you think that meant? Selling to the Tigers? Buying from the White Sox? Or scouting the Sox for the current 3 game trip? A Royals scout? Maybe he was just at the wrong game and didn't realize it.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 26, 2013 -> 09:58 AM) JIM BOWDEN ‏@JimBowdenESPNxm 1h Cubs paying $17.7m of $24.5m due Soriano in deal (approved by MLB) The house cleaning is complete. Who is even left from the Hendry era? Castro, Samardzija, & Barney?
  18. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 26, 2013 -> 07:28 AM) With TJ, they probably need to re cut a lot of what he says. He's recovered quite a bit since his horrific accident, but he's still pretty f***ed up. Chances are they keep him around to have him repeat himself after the contestants go away to party. Hence the weird, cropped too close shots with slightly different audio. That makes sense. He's definitely not 100%.
  19. QUOTE (103 mph screwball @ Jul 26, 2013 -> 08:29 AM) Crain for a PTBNL. De Aza and Lindstrom will be traded. Peavy and Rios will not be traded because the other GM's will not meet Hahn's demands. Hahn will stand firm showing the league that he is not a push over and doesn't have to move salary. Soxtalk will be disappointed and cranky. Way to go out an a limb there...
  20. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 25, 2013 -> 10:40 PM) Cy I have repeatedly said its not the results that matter over and over just like you. I love the Sox . I am more a White Sox apologist than anything if there is a way to characterize my thinking. I was in favor of Robin . I said why not ? Give him a chance but now I have seen enough. Cy you are 100% correct in your assessment of the situation. It's not about Robin or Jake or if he got hurt or if he didn't. It's about risk and reward, and protecting the biggest piece the Sox have had at the deadine in a very very long time, so much so that the next chance to be competitive again in a short period of time may hinge on him. If you're going to put all that at risk to showcase him another inning or get him an ovation then I have serious doubts that you understand baseball. Kudo's to you sir for your support. If you pull him after 5 or 6 innings, you may limit what you get back for him in a trade. It's not an arm injury, but a rib injury can severely hinder your ability to throw 100%. A team may invest $20+million and top prospects for him, they have to be positive that he will be at full strength for the stretch run this year. I understand protecting your asset, but you also have to maximize the value of your asset. Unfortunately that rib injury happened, and Peavy needed to show that it wouldn't prevent from going deep into a ballgame.
  21. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 25, 2013 -> 10:04 PM) Do you honestly think Hahn would say pitch him long because the other teams want to see that ? Peavy's injury was not arm related. It was a rib and he was off 4-6 weeks. No one is expected to pitch that long under those circumstances . If anything Hahn would be saying get him out of there. Protect our asset, protect the future of the franchise not let's showcase him longer because 1 or 2 more innings after being off for so long will prove he's a man to other GM's. Do you honestly think Hahn wouldn't call the clubhouse after the 7th and say "Peavy is done for the day" if it was that big of a deal? Hahn can pull him whenever he wants, but he didn't. It was 118 pitches, not 148.
  22. anybody else notice that when TJ shows up, it doesn't always look like he is actually there? Like he is filmed somewhere else and just edited into the picture? Why did Trishelle even show up?
  23. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 25, 2013 -> 08:13 PM) Now Olney says he thinks Yanks would assume between $5M and $8M of deal, but still that is crazy. Theo just wants to completely rid himself of the old regime, and that was the last step. All that is left is Castro, Barney, & Samardzija.
  24. How about Derrick Rose? Only way we can guarantee a guy by that name actually plays.
  25. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Jul 25, 2013 -> 08:48 PM) Our old friend Buehrle with a 2 hit shutout. 9k. Lost the no no in the 5th. Thank you for joining the AL Houston!
