QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 20, 2011 -> 09:48 AM) "Your Highness" might be the worst movie ever made with such a strong cast. Don't think Mr. McBride will be writing any more screenplays for a while. Danny McBride can write? Woah!

Chicago @ Chicago, 06/20, 7:10, WCIU (Sox), CSN (Cubs)
Rongey also tried to say the leadoff hitter isn't as important as the 6 and 7 hitters (he also said 3, 4, 5). Ideally, you want one of your best hitters in the leadoff spot (highest OBP, lowest SLG amongst your best hitters). It's hard to argue with Rongey. He's going to take the same stance over and over again, basically. I think I missed your call maggs, but I heard Rongey try to explain himself after your call while I was eating Subway in my car.

2011 White Sox Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 20, 2011 -> 10:03 AM) SP in the AL is just too deep. And I don't think Humber has that league-wide recognition as of yet. Even with the great numbers he's putting up that you've alluded to. To put it in perspective. Which one of these pitchers would you boot in favor of Humber? Felix Verlander Weaver Haren Pineda Beckett Lester Ogando Price Sabathia Shields Gonzalez Romero Wilson Buchholz Those are starting pitchers I came up with right off the top of my head. Now obviously all 15 of these guys aren't going to make it regardless. Now Felix, Verlander, Weaver, Haren, Beckett, Lester, Price, Sabathia should all be locks. Not only based off of their performance this year, but their proven pedigrees. James Shields and Michael Pineda have been flat out better than Humber. I don't think anybody would question that. That leaves you with Gonzalez, Romero, Wilson, Ogando abd Buchholz. Gonzalez will be their simply because you have to take at least one guy from each team (not that he's not worthy). Wilson and Ogando, or at least one of them, will be there because Ron Washington is the manager. Romero is on his second consecutive really good year (he's even better better than last year) and pitches in that beast of a division. Then you're left with Buchholz, who's a 'name' and pitches for arguably the second most popular organization in baseball. There's just no way Humber would be able to overcome all that unless he threw a perfect game or something. He just hasn't been doing it long enough, nor is he viewed as a premium talent (like Pineda) and is not a 'brand' name. Honestly, I'd rather have Humber pitch than Buchholz, Gio, and maybe Romero. Every time Humber goes out there, I feel extremely confident in the Sox' ability to win that game. His peripherals may be a lot less impressive than his ERA and WHIP, but until he starts regressing, I'm going to remain confident in his abilities. The only flaw I see in him thus far is that he tires pretty easily. Once he hits the 90 pitch mark, his stuff starts deteriorating and he gets into trouble.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 20, 2011 -> 09:27 AM) I was like... "May"? Sean May? Who? and immediately pondered how the Grizz got him and why we'd want him. I see you meant Mayo. I don't see why the Grizzlies would do that, but yes, please. I don't either. Although Korver might play a bigger role on that team next year than Mayo. Mayo was in the dog house all of last season.

Is it even legal to trade a manager for a player? I remember hearing how that's not allowed anymore after the Rays traded for Lou Pinella.

Charlie Morton went from 9 ERA crap pitcher to borderline all-star. How? Because he decided to pitch like Roy Halladay (literally). http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2011/writ...morton.pirates/ I saw him pitch earlier this year and thought, "hey, this guy pitches a lot like Roy Halladay". I joked about it with a couple of my friends and said that he probably just decided to copy a better pitcher since he sucked so much. Turns out I was right. It sure is rare to see ML players imitating another pitcher's mechanics.

Marlins interested in Ozzie Guillen (again)
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jun 19, 2011 -> 02:03 PM) Cito would replace Ozzie No way in hell should that ever happen. I'd rather have Ozzie here instead of Cito sleeping during the damn game.

Marlins interested in Ozzie Guillen (again)
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 19, 2011 -> 01:33 PM) We're not going to get anything for Ozzie. He'll go there on his own with the blessing of management. He may even get fired this year as a favor to Ozzie to get started with his new team. And he'll do great there. You all (not all, but most) will b**** about the next manager because that's what fans do, b**** about the manager/coach. Sox need to start thinking who will be the right fit. I'd say we will be in rebuilding mode, so it will be a guy like Quade who will have to take it on the chin for a while and be the scapegoat. So who will be the next manager? It'd be easy to just name Bell or Cora. The future looks s***ty for the White Sox so you all will have a lot to b**** about Ozzie's replacement. Greg Gilbert has spoken again.

WTF are we waiting for ? Call up Viciedo !
QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jun 19, 2011 -> 09:52 AM) Considering he had an .840 OPS last year and has improved tremendously this year, I think those MLE numbers are a little too conservative. Where you find those btw? There's a calculator. http://www.minorleaguesplits.com/mlecalc.html And I agree, it is very conservative. Viciedo should be able to put up a .850 OPS without too much trouble.

Some writer texted Kenny during the game last night and asked about Viciedo. Kenny responded by saying he's going to give what Ozzie needs. Either Ozzie has more power than Kenny or Kenny needs to stop playing games. Seriously, if the Sox don't make the playoffs this year, both should be fired for playing this stupid ass ego game.

Sox @ D-Backs, 3:10 PM, CSN
There really is no excuse for Pierre to play instead of Quentin. Dunn in RF might end up being a disaster. Humber doesn't exactly miss a lot of bats. BTW, Collmenter sounds like bad news. He's a guy who throws 87 and uses his change 25% of the time. Hopefully, our advanced scouting told our hitters.

Anybody notice a change in Thornton's mechanics? It's hard to explain, but when he was struggling with location, he lifted his throwing arm a little bit higher when he is performing his leg kick. Now it's more stationary and he seems to be throwing more strikes. Could just be my imagination though.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 18, 2011 -> 02:14 PM) Quinarvy and chw will be happy to know that none of the Wii U dev kits are final versions and to expect the system to get "beefier". That's good. I have nothing personal against Nintendo. If they make a better machine, then good for them.

Saturday's lineup from tonight's Twitter updates Lilli - LF Morel - 3B CQ - RF PK - 1B Alexei - SS Rios - CF Castro - C Beckham - 2B Danks - LHP Well...this lineup is...different. no faith and no patience in this organization
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 17, 2011 -> 07:43 PM) The White Sox have had the fortune of playing KC, Cleveland, and for the most part Detroit 18 times a year the past 10 seasons or so. 84 wins should not be acceptable. Except for 2005 and a couple of other years, the pattern seems to hold true. You think they have a good team. They fall flat on their face, play crappy ball for 3 or 4 months, rally to get back in it and fall apart at the end. They win 83 or 84 games and 5 years later the year is called a success because in the 70s the Sox really sucked. I call BS. Win the division. Make the playoffs. You have had a big advantage over your division foes for years and have squandered it far too often. 2005 is something they will always be able to hang their hat on and rightfully so, but if a couple of crazy things didn't happen against Boston, like a ball going through Graffinino's legs and El Duque, a guy KW didn't even want on the postseason roster not pitching out of a jam, they might still be looking for their first postseason series win in 94 years, and I'm sure Ozzie and KW would have very little support from anyone on this website.
