Dodgers @ White Sox, 5/20, 7:10, CSN
QUOTE (BearSox @ May 20, 2011 -> 09:45 PM) 90% of the league does what Mitchell does there with that count and that pitch. Hell, people on this board can hit that pitch hard. J4L definitely can.

QUOTE (Princess Dye @ May 20, 2011 -> 09:43 PM) No evidence points to this. Evidence is he has fallen off physically. Why didn't he fall apart last year when he was given a career high in save opportunities? It's probably not physical. The velocity's there. He's just locating poorly, which could be a mental or mechanical issue. He has been better as of late, but he's still not himself.

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ May 20, 2011 -> 09:42 PM) another case of a s*** player beating the Sox do they even employ a scouting department? He was hitting .091 before tonight's game. That was definitely unexpected.

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ May 20, 2011 -> 09:35 PM) There is no instance where Thorton should be pitching over Crain right now. Thorton should have thrown the 9th last night to get some work in Ozzie's entire reason for going with Thornton was so that he could face two lefties, which he still fares decently against. Righties have an OPS of 1.000+ on him this year with an OBP near .500. Sure enough, Mattingly pinch hits for Gwynn and that plan pretty much goes to s***. And Sergio finally caves. Damn it.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ May 20, 2011 -> 09:32 PM) And Thornton is our setup man...and its the 8th, when setup men pitch. If Ozzie had put in Crain, as you asked, at the start of the inning, and Crain blew the hold, you'd be b****ing that Ozzie didnt go with our regular setup man...so in the end, this was a lose lose situation for Ozzie, because you are openly and obviously biased. You're acting like Thornton and Crain are on equal ground, they're clearly not, not this season. One one hand, you have a guy who hasn't given up a run in I don't know how long, on the other, you have a guy with a 6 ERA. You tell me which guy is the better choice to go to in a 1 run game.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ May 20, 2011 -> 09:29 PM) Or...a pitcher making 4 million dollars could get a few outs. Ozzie doesn't make the team, KW does. Thornton is what Ozzie has, so he uses him. Can't pitch Crain in place of Thornton every night...otherwise there's no point in having Thronton. Bottom line, that wasn't crappy managing, it was good managing, he took out the wrong guy at the right time. Crain hasn't pitched in two days.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ May 20, 2011 -> 09:26 PM) Yes, what a crappy decision to go with Crain. That should have been the case to begin the inning.

Great pitching by Crain. Crappy managing by Ozzie.

One more out Crain.
-
Dodgers @ White Sox, 5/20, 7:10, CSN
So Ozzie thought that Thornton was gonna face two lefties, instead, surprise, he faces one and fails to get any righties out.

2010-2011 NBA Thread
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ May 20, 2011 -> 04:38 PM) I was with you up until that part. I never said he was as valuable, I said he was near. And there are advanced metrics to back this. Gasol's been worth 11+ win shares in the past three seasons with LA. His PER is around 22-23. Pippen has a very similar stretch during the 6 championships, although he spread that out over 8 years.

2010-2011 NBA Thread
Kobe doesn't win anything without Shaq or Gasol. MJ needed Scottie, but I think it's pretty evident that Shaq is a more dominant player than Scottie and that the Gasol from the past three years is nearly as valuable as Pippen. And there's that stat of MJ being 6-0 in the NBA Finals.

Sox to recognize two studs in Dodger series
QUOTE (bigruss22 @ May 20, 2011 -> 01:35 PM) As long as JR is the owner, loyalty/history will be a huge deal to the organization (for better or for worse). Dwyane Wade disagrees with JR's supposed loyalty.

Sox to recognize two studs in Dodger series
When I first saw the thread title, I thought J4L made the thread to talk about how the Sox will recognize that stud Clayton Kershaw and possibly somebody else. Now that would have been an entertaining premise for a thread.

2011 MLB Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 19, 2011 -> 01:44 AM) What's most impressive is that they weathered the 0-6 start (thanks partially to the White Sox breathing life into them with that comeback win we gave away), they've been missing Longoria for most of the season, they're starting Brignac/Johnson at SS (who would both fit better on the Twins' AAA team), they lost their predicted DH in Manny Ramirez right off the bat and Jaso/catchers haven't made as much of a contribution as in the past. Not to mention that Fuld's been in a 3 week slump after his fantastic play to start the season. Pitching, pitching, pitching. And obviously the right call not to sign Soriano, the Yankees can absorb that loss, though, just like the Red Sox with Jenks. And Desmond Jennings isn't very far away at all, he just might end up having a better season than Crawford at 1/100th the cost. Fuld's slump is no accident. The guy's not that good.

I'm like "Baby are you down down down down down?" kind of down on this. Although the term "stud" to describe Uribe and Garland is ummm...yeah.
