2010-2011 NBA Thread
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Feb 3, 2011 -> 05:25 PM) Boozer or Deng better be named an All-Star tonight, because if the Hawks and Heat have 3 apiece and the Bulls have one, something is wrong. It would most likely be Boozer. Thing is, the East forwards are gonna be filled with guys like KG and Bosh. We'll see. I wouldn't mind if Rose was the only guy, but the team with the second best record in the East should get more than just one all-star.

QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Feb 3, 2011 -> 05:09 PM) Dammit I'll be glad when I reach the point in my life when I'll consider $500,000 to be NO RISK. Just think of it as 50 cents out of the White Sox' pocket.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 3, 2011 -> 05:23 PM) Was Andruw Jones a minor-league deal?? I thought his deal put him on the 25-man. It was a 550k deal. It was a Major League deal, but I was just referring to the similarity in money.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Feb 3, 2011 -> 04:46 PM) Oney loves him the black guys. Real ones, whatever the f*** that means. I'm gonna assume it means he likes rap? DAMNIT ONEY! Now I must know what a "real" black guy is! +1 for Battle of the Millibridge FWIW, I think there was a running joke about how Jermaine Dye wasn't really black since Juan Uribe called him a white guy. Everybody probably just went with it.

Sox Sign Lastings Milledge to MLC
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 3, 2011 -> 01:02 PM) Milledge batted .277/.332/.380 with four home runs and 32 RBI with the Pirates last season, including a .320 batting average and .926 OPS against southpaws. ^^ I say Ozzie keeps him in order and we have ourselves something the team has desperately needed for a long time. KW is awesome. We found ourselves a platoon mate for Mark Teahen I guess.

So Now That Pettitte Is Officially Done...
Unless the Sox sign another starter, I don't see how they'd have the luxury to trade one away at this point. All the decent SPs are off the market.

Looks like there will be a position battle for the 4th OFer spot.

Ozzie's recent comments
I wouldn't want to get stranded in a storm with somebody that I totally despise. 1) It'd be awkward and 2) if you hate him, he probably did something bad to you before this anyhow.

2011 Twins talent vs. White Sox talent
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 1, 2011 -> 08:35 PM) Yeah Dick and Bert are pretty awful. They were talking about Delmon Young as an MVP candidate last year. Atleast stories about golf and b****ing about the umpiring crew don't involve blatant homerism like that. If it were up to Hawk, Carlos Gomez might have gotten an MVP at some point.

Mark Kotsay
At least he won't play every other day now.

Snowmageddon 2011
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 1, 2011 -> 12:55 PM) The Snowpocalypse Tsunami? Blizzard Could Send 18-Foot Waves Into Downtown Chicago Tonight By: Nick Carbone (41 mins ago) Topics: blizzard, Chicago, Epic, lake shore drive, life threatening, nation, Snow, tsunami, us, waves Meteorologists fear a blizzard will send 18-foot waves over the shores of Lake Michigan. Tonight's massive impending snowfall is no surprise - it's been forecast for the past week. But as the storm swirls closer to Chicago, the headlines just keep getting worse. The crushing clipper is expected to sweep through the Chicago area beginning 3 p.m. Tuesday and will linger until Wednesday afternoon. It's been called a blizzard of “epic” proportions, a “potentially life-threatening” system featuring thundersnow, multiple feet of accumulation, and gale-force winds. And now, tack on the potential for waves cresting over the shores of Lake Michigan, threatening homes and roads. (More on TIME.com: See photos of snowstorms hitting the east coast – again.) The National Weather Service has issued a “Lakeshore Flood Warning”, stating that “strong winds will likely result in waves building to 14 to 18 feet,” which could cause flooding on Chicago's streets. One of the city's main downtown arteries, Lake Shore Drive, runs – you guessed it – right along the lakeshore and could face a washout of water and ice. Add that to 60 mph winds, lightning, and a predicted accumulation of 2 to 3 inches per hour, according to meteorologist Richard Castro, and it's no surprise, then, that the NWS is deeming the storm “dangerous, multifaceted and life-threatening.” Illinois Governor Pat Quinn issued a statewide disaster declaration Monday so cities and towns could prepare for the impending mess of at least a foot of snow across the Chicagoland area, with as much as 18 inches expected along the lakefront. (More on TIME.com: See video of Obama's Chicago roots.) Chicagoans are accustomed to disappointment in the weather department, with panic over dangerous storms often giving way to tame systems. It could be that fabled lake effect or just overhype – but the Chicago Tribune casts off the naysayers this time, saying the impending blizzard (yes, it's already being called a blizzard) “appears anything but gentle.” And New Yorkers, who've faced nearly 5 feet of snow this winter, can commiserate – until the same system rolls eastward for a messy Wednesday morning in the Big Apple. 2011 Soccer Season
QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jan 31, 2011 -> 05:53 PM) Agreed. He was playing a good sized role at Gladbach but he was kind of buried there. Also, Chelsea just paid a s*** ton for Torres, which given his recent injury history is kind of surprising. I thought Chelsea already had enough good strikers in Anelka and Drogba.

Alexei Ramirez signs 4 year extension
QUOTE (Pale Sox @ Feb 1, 2011 -> 12:19 AM) I would normally be worried about his age considering he's a SS, but his body type typically ages well. He's the rare Cuban that looks younger than he actually is. Even if he aged like a normal player, he'd still be in his prime for 2 years of the extension.

Freddy signs with NYY
QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Jan 31, 2011 -> 09:16 PM) Freddy continues to be underrated. 2010 league average (180IP): 4.14 ERA; 1.344 WHIP; 8.9 H/9; 1.0 HR/9; 3.2 BB/9; 6.8 K/9 2010 Freddy Garcia (157IP): 4.64 ERA; 1.376 WHIP; 9.8 H/9; 1.3 HR/9; 2.6 BB/9; 5.1 K/9 Freddy wasn't too far from being a league average pitcher last year, with the main knock being IP after his first full season back from surgery. And if you look at all the pitchers Freddy outperformed last year (and some of them may be surprising) while taking into account their salaries, what Freddy did for us was pretty damn valuable. He's certainly worth $2M guaranteed, so I have to believe there were better money offers out there. Freddy needs the opportunity to win a starting job and keep it though, so I'm sure that's why he went to New York. Good luck to him. Freddy's worth it as long as you pay him less than $4-5 million a year.

TSN picks the Sox over the Tigers in ought 11
QUOTE (beckham15 @ Jan 31, 2011 -> 08:03 PM) I know many will disagree w/ me but paulie saves a lot of errors at first base I'd throw him in the standout category if juan pierre is in there Range-wise, Konerko is below average. He does save a decent amount of errors, but I don't think that alone makes him a standout on defense. Sure, Pierre can't throw, but his range makes up for a lot of his arm-weakness.

Alexei Ramirez signs 4 year extension
Let's hope Alexei keeps up his defense from last year for the next 5 seasons. I must say this is a great value signing given his current talent level (which is a 3.5-4 win player).
