  1. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 16, 2009 -> 03:56 AM) Good points. Hell you can add the Otsuka deal (wound up tearing up his arm) the Buchholz deal, and in a way, the Bailey deal this past offseason. Though I gotta say that near Pence deal hurts. (forgot which player rejected it) How come I've never heard of any of these proposed deals before? We were going to get Akinori Otsuka?
  2. I made predictions last year and we got swept. So, uh, yeah, I'm going to keep my mouth shut this time.
  3. QUOTE (maki @ Jun 16, 2009 -> 08:31 AM) 7 times in 10+ years definitely qualifies as very rare, or even "one of the first times" for a player not sitting there with baseball reference in front of him. the 76 walks in 81 3-0 counts has to be dominated by intentionals. It could be more than 7 times. He could have fouled the pitch off, swung and missed, etc. Although even if that did happen, it wouldn't be more than 15 times. I think A.J. exaggerated a little bit and players don't remember everything. But for such a sharp guy like A.J., he should probably know. And 51 of the 76 walks were intentional, so yes, it was dominated by intentional walks.
  4. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Jun 15, 2009 -> 06:39 PM) I never thought i'd say this. But as of right now. I'm okay with our rotation. If Contreras continues to show flashes of his successful past were set for the remainder of the year. Buerhle has been solid all year, Danks is coming back stronger each start, Floyd seems to be coming back and Richards is probably one of the better 5th starters in the league and he keeps showing signs of maturity. If Contreras goes down (i hope not), we have young stud Aaron Poreda waiting in the wings. Now if KW wants to add an ACE going forward for next year and beyond, i'm all for it. Guys like Dan Haren come to mind but thats about it. Guys like Barry Zito wouldn't improve our staff tremendously at all. I think if KW were to add another SP, it would have to be a top of the rotation ACE type of pitcher. What this team really needs is a bat. I've said if before and i'll say it again, Freddy Sanchez would be a perfect addition to the top of the order. I like Getz and i think he would really be a solid player in this league, but we need a little more consistency at the top of our lineup. He has an 8 million option for next year- which is very reasonable. With him and CQ coming back and the rejuvinated Bronze Titan- were right back in the mix in a very below average division. Sanchez 2B Ramirez SS Dye RF Thome DH Konerko 1B Quentin LF Pierzynski C Beckham 3b Pods/Anderson CF Thats a better lineup than anyone else in the AL Central. . . I've always liked Freddy Sanchez. He's a perfect 2-hitter. If we get back into the race, why not?
  5. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jun 15, 2009 -> 01:57 PM) Joe Morgan, busted lying, again Joe is pretty old and he could possibly mix stuff up. But that guy is way too full of himself so it's most likely him making all of it up.
  6. QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Jun 15, 2009 -> 06:00 PM) What would it take to acquire a trade winds forum? A series of bad trade suggestions such as this.
  7. No way... He's mediocre at best and he's getting Cy Young Award winner money.
  8. QUOTE (RME JICO @ Jun 15, 2009 -> 03:36 PM) Lets send him down today and find out. I doubt Wise would accept an assignment.
  9. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 15, 2009 -> 02:38 PM) If Contreras puts up two more real good starts and we are still 5-7 games back, it is the time to trade him. You might actually be able to get something good for him to if he is dominant. That's what Boers and Bernstein said. It's too bad that our offense is absolute crap. We could have had something this year if this offense didn't blow so much.
  10. QUOTE (Reddy @ Jun 15, 2009 -> 12:04 PM) or... the pitcher just threw a strike... It does not account for pitches thrown after 3-0. It strictly tracks what he does on a 3-0 count and he's made contact 7 times before he went on and got that hit yesterday. So he has swung on 3-0 at least 7 times before.
  11. If we trade A.J., please let it be to an NL team. After hating his guts for about 3 years when he was with the Twins and then rooting for him these past couple of years, it would break my heart to hate him again. That being said, I think he should be here at least until the end of this season. I don't feel as if Flowers is ready defensively. Plus, A.J. handles the pitching staff pretty well. Something Flowers hasn't gotten the experience with yet. If everything really goes to hell this year, bring Flowers up in August or September and get him some experience.
  12. Pretty much everybody speaks English to begin with, why not? It will also help make illegal immigrants more useful when they start working.
  13. QUOTE (tpezz27 @ Jun 15, 2009 -> 10:50 AM) 81 times in his career he's gone to a 3-0 count and he's walked 76 of the hitters..... Trevor doesn't like to mess around.
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 14, 2009 -> 10:34 PM) And the wind blowing in saved your starter about 5 home runs allowed while Twins were missing 3 starters. Didn't the Twins only have 7 road wins before this series?
  15. QUOTE (daa84 @ Jun 12, 2009 -> 04:51 PM) i thought i would be impartial...but i found myself rooting for the twins...part of it has to do with the fact that so many ignorant cub fans b**** about how bad the AL Central is (and don't get me wrong, the ALC isn't good, but I personally feel its comparable to any NL division) ....and I'd love for nothing more than the twins (now 10-20 on the road) to go into Wrigley and sweep them to prove them wrong Yup, that got me too. However, this series was a win-win for any Sox fan. Twins lose, we gain ground. Cubs lose, we get to laugh at them and prove their idiot fans wrong.
  16. QUOTE (Pants Rowland @ Jun 15, 2009 -> 10:21 AM) Can we get a source on this? I am having trouble confirming and/or believing this. That's actually the second hit he's ever given up on 3-0. Source The last hit he gave up on 3-0 was back in 1995.
  17. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 15, 2009 -> 10:25 AM) I hit him in the #2 spot a lot on the video game "MLB 09 The Show." Then again, I pretty much never bunt or hit behind runners, and that's not too practical. The best #2 hitter for this lineup just got called up from Charlotte in Beckham, he's just not ready to do those duties yet. But he will be in due time. Beckham likes to go the other way, which would be great for a 2-hitter. He's only that close to becoming the next Derek Jeter.
  18. IMO, you really want a left handed bat in the 2-hole. Make him pull balls and move the runner. Thus, I think we should put A.J. there again. Because it's hard to watch Alexei attempting to hit it to the right side and fail.
  19. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Jun 15, 2009 -> 09:58 AM) Who? Most likely Cubs fans.
  20. This is definitely interesting... Do people even listen to Mike North anymore?
  21. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jun 15, 2009 -> 09:27 AM) AJ said in the papers today that that's one of the first times he's ever swung at a 3-0 pitch. Totally not true. In his career on 3-0 counts, he's had a total of 8 at bats while getting that count in 93 PAs. So he swung the bat 3-0 at least 7 times before, if not more. Baseball-Reference is awesome.
  22. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 15, 2009 -> 08:08 AM) John Danks came through for us last year with the s***-talking, then he backed it up on the mound. And then Octavio Dotel blew it.
  23. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 15, 2009 -> 07:53 AM) I can't believe no one posted this yet - maybe I missed it. The Trib did a survey and ran this article, showing that statistically, Cubs and Sox fans are much more similar than different demographically. Thoughts? No quiz on baseball knowledge was given. I would have loved to see those results.
  24. QUOTE (everafan @ Jun 14, 2009 -> 09:41 PM) I think I saw that Morneau is hitting second now. That's Mauer you're talking about. Q won't be back for another month.
  25. The only thing that concerns me is the power numbers. If he's really a guy who likes to go to the opposite field, more power to him. Guys like that would make the Sox a lot less frustrating to watch. However, I think Dayan has to develop a slugging% somewhere in the .500s to be a successful offensive 3B. Because he obviously doesn't walk much and his OPS is going to suck if his SLG doesn't make up for his bad OBP.
